...as for a DUI stupud but not worth labeling him for life as a bad character.

I remember seeing a nugget in one of the draft guides (PFW?) about tests later proving that it was a prescription drug given to him for insomnia. Apparently the prescription was new and Tahi wasn't used to it. End of story...he crashes at very low speed into two parked cars.

Frankly, I've heard far worse stories. For example, Peko peed.

BTW, I've never seen Tahi play a lick, but some of the writeups about him were interesting. Some sources listed his weight as 230 lbs., while others put him at 254. Supposed to be capable short yardage type with excellent hands. Several sources made the same comparison to ex-Dolphin Rob Konrad. CBS Sportsline had him ranked as the 2nd best FB prospect in the draft. The Sporting News had him far ranked lower, 5th or 6th I think, but claimed that due to his recieving skills he was a sleeper who would interest teams running a West Coast offense.

Last, he served a two-year missionary commitment...in Florida?

I'm pretty sure we signed him as a college free agent. He'll probably be put on the practice squad so we have somebody we can turn to if JJ goes down.

Yup. Tahi was signed as an undrafted free agent immediately after the draft, and has been mentioned frequently whenever the turdsmith at PFT wants to pile on the Bengals by listing everyone in camp that has had a brush with the law. The fact is, most of us care absolutely nothing about this guy...just as we shouldn't give a crap about half of the character crap being thrown in the Bengals direction.

It takes alot of molehills to make a mountain.

Wonder if he can compete at TE? He's short and squat but Tahi suprised me with his balance as a receiver at BYU. He also showed nimble enough feet blocking to believe he can handle blitzing LBs off the edge in the NFL. He should be more of a receiving threat than any of the TEs on the roster and would be much better at trying to block as the offset H-Back in the backfield than Schobel ever was.

No doubt one of the TEs will also be the 2nd string FB if history repeats. Last year we saw Reggie Kelly as the lead blocker in the I when JJ was out. Only difference between this year and last year was that Schobel was the line TE when that happened. Now I guess Darnell Sanders would be the first line TE backup followed by Tony Stewart and Ronnie Ghent.

But none of these TEs or Tahi can run seam routes or any mid range routes like Cooley, nor does the Bengals O require them to because that's where Chris Perry and maybe Kenny Watson come into play. Stewart can run a cross but it sure seems like he's got to be hit in stride right in the numbers or forget it. Kelly would be have a banner receiving year of he caught 25 balls and gained 15 yards once. He's not a mobile receiver at all.

Tahi should be able to run shorter routes better than the rest of the TEs and should also be able to handle dump offs with his back to the D and actually gain yardage after the catch rather than being immediately pummeled. Plus, he'd be effective leaking out from the offset I for flat passes but they do already have JJ for that. I'd like to see what he can do on the line blocking. If he gets a shot there then maybe he has an outside chance to stick as the 3rd TE and backup FB. Seems like it would have to be at the expense of either Stewart or Ghent and it's hard to see the Bengals parting ways with their player rep even though he has very limited value as an offensive player.

What could be seen is why Lewis has been impressed with rookie free agent running backs DeDe Dorsey and Terrence Whitehead, as well as fullbacks Naufahu Tahi and Chris Manderino. They are gunning for one or two spots on the practice squad.

Seems like rb's are doing good :P wonder if anyone unseats watson.
