ChadJohnson-85
http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5343Sounds like there actually trying to get some rookies signed. BTW, 300th POST!!! WHO DEY!!!
markymark69
Not surprised by Willie's comments. He's a stand up guy and I think he realizes that it's the other guys turn to get their big paycheck. Sounds good on the draft picks as well, at least work is being done. jditty47
i love willie. hope he accepts a paycut due to his age and capspace and is happy with being on a contender and in the playoffs, and to be playing for coach lewis. he already got his big contract, hope he does it for the team after the season...time will tell... derekshank
I'm wondering if with the character problems of the recent draft picks, if management is thinking Willies value goes beyond his on-the-field production. Maybe that's why they're trying out Whitworth at LG. Maybe they're trying to re-sign Wilie, and let Steiny go.I think I prefer the versatility of Steiny... but Whitworth is pretty versatile too. schweinhart
Nobody on the team has got more heart and soul than Big Willie. If he continues to keep above the slight he might feel, I'm looking forward to him having his best year yet.
The_Next_Big_Thing
Keeping Willie at the expense of Eric would be the dumbest move in the history of the NFL.Willie is older, near retirement, and signing him would at most get a couple years. We are talking about 3 times as many good seasons from Steiny with just as much productivity.
jditty47
inside line positions arent as valuable as Tackles. how hard was it to find a tackle opposite willie back in the day? it took years before we finally got levi. i like both of them. and i doubt both get resigned. for some reason i see steiny leaving.... Eric IS a valuable tackle. He IS a valuable center. He lines up at guard because we have Willie the old man and Levi. If Willie is gone, Levi is our second best tackle, and one of the other guys lines up at guard.
Kazkal
He's not a valuable tackle otherwise he would be a tackle....he's a valuable guard who can play tackle or center in a pench if it is really needed and you lose your starter, don't get me wrong I wanna keep steinbach and wouldent mind seeing him end up being 5th-8thish payed top guard I just dont think hes worth 9million a year.If he gets tagged it should be to try and trade him like the jets did last year. derekshank
Whitworth looks to be just a quality tackle and guard. So the only thing Steiny can do that Whitworth can't is play center.Don't get me wrong... I'd rather have Steiny than Willie, both because of price, and youth. But when you look at our off the field issues, and all the media frenzy that has been stired up, the management might realize that even if character doesn't matter on the field, it matters to fans, and Willie is just the kind of guy to right the ship.I repeat myself... I would rather keep Steinbach than Willie, but I would understand the rationale of going the other way.
Stripes
Whitworth does look to be versatile much like Steinbach, and that suggests to be that the Bengals intend to hold on to both as long as possible. I still think Willie is the odd man out, simply because of his age and knee problems. Imagine having two lineman of Steiny's versatility in 2007 and beyond. The benefit would be hard to measure, but obviously important.
