Is Marvin Loosing the Team?

Both the Post's Wheeler and Enquirer's Daughtery have knocked Marvin for exacerbating the character problem with his comments. Wheeler says that Marvin has no one to blame for the media raising the charcter issue but himself, since before the draft he said character would play a big role in their choices -- and then he went out and picked guys with red flags. I can agree with that.

Daughtery says that if he wants to move on, it's time for him and the rest of the organization to STFU about it. I suspect that's what's going to happen, at least as long as no new problems crop up.

Daughtery suprised me. Over the years he's practically made a cottage industry out of bashing everything about the Bengals, but his rant about the character issue is pretty close to my own. Specifically, it happens everywhere, we're mostly talking about fringe players, and fans need to grow up about what type of product the NFL really is. In fact, I might have added that if you demand your football to be squeaky clean then get your butt to the nearest park where the pee-wee types are playing.

That said, Marvin has now taken heat for saying nothing, saying too much, and for saying one thing while doing another. He's clearly in a no win position because as tired as we all are over this issue, Daughtery included, there's no way Marvin can simply ignore the issue by saying nothing.

Sheesh, half of the Bengals fanbase has crawled out on a ledge. So is he supposed to ignore that kind of fan behavior just because it's irrational?

I lost quite a bit of respect for Marvin Lewis when he sat right across from Andy Furman on the radio 3 days ago and said that the rumor that Odell Thurman was going to be suspended for 4 games was just that, a rumor.

:sadwalk:

I have to say that you can't blame Marvin.

If he tells the truth he ends up giving up a 1st or 2nd round pick for Brooks.

And,the truth is the league had not said anything official about Thurman yet so,what he said was true.

There was the chance that Thurman could appeal and get out of it or get it delayed.

There was also the chance that Marvin could have got in hot water if he had said something, the league drug policy has to be careful before they call someone a drug user on national media that the person in question is not challanging the results .

Darn that Marvin for telling the truth!

You took that for a denial, but it isn't. You need to study your English skills.

You also should know that the Bengals management and coaches have to be far more

carefull about shooting off their mouth than we yobbos on a chat board.

Did I expect Marvin to announce Odell's suspension on the Radio show before the NFL officially handed it down? NO! But everyone knows that he knew it was coming and not just a rumor. He should of simply answered with "No comment." or "I can't comment on that at this time." But instead he took the wrong route by stating it was just a rumor and that it was just all talk.

The radio show was long after Brooks was drafted so it would have had no effect on Brooks draft position. It was simply a poor decision on Marvin Lewis' behalf to answer the question that way. Maybe he does think all Bengal fans are idiots and wouldn't tie everything together and realize "Hey! I think Marvin just lied to me and he did really know Odell was getting suspended!"

Has anyone heard if Odell is getting suspended or is it just a rumor?

The guy from profootballtalk gets a lot of news out there first, but he's also wrong about a lot of things.

I like how he uses some of his sources: "Player X is a huge turd," a source said.

What kind of a source is that? And speaking of turds, props to the guy on this thread who said it reminded him of Shelly from South Park. I was thinking the same thing.

I heard Thurman was going to be suspended the day of the taking of Brooks by the Bengals because,I recall posting that I thought that it didn't make much sense to take someone kicked off of their colleage team for drugs to replace someone suspended for drugs.

It seems like I recall the team putting up on Bengals.com the anouncement of Thurmans' likely suspension the day they took Brooks.

The league just anounced the Thurman suspension and I think that was what was up, Marvin was not sure what was going on until the league makes it official.

Guys can take leagal actions ect. to postpone things,if the whole "Thurman missed a test " is true, it is possiable that he could have taken a test (such as a hair test which shows how long it been since you have used) to show that their clean.
