I obviosly will not name names, but it was told to me that although there is consideration of letting henery be the scapegoat of this contoversial offseason, the bengals are not nieve enough to let odell go anywhere. They realize what they have and he realizes he made his biggest mistake to date...(not taking a drug test when he had to) but they will move on. Odell is going to be a top tier linebacker in the nfl... Except that would still mean he was already in the NFL's substance abuse system and had 2 positives in his rookie year. Sure, I imagine 2 is better than 3, but not much. Another factor that will play into whether Odell starts in game 5 is the fact that the bye week falls between games 4 and 5. Marvin will have 2 weeks to work Odell back into the system if he wants to.

Actually, we don't know that. If you recall, one of the major points associated with the rumor that Thurman was going to be suspended was the incredible number of fines he had received last year for being late to meetings, practices, and just about everything. So how big a stretch is it to assume that the missed tests were simply another link in the same chain? Best, the idea that the suspension was a result of a missed test, not a failed one, has been made from the very start.

If true the anger and finger pointing woud have to be taken down a notch because we wouldn't be talking about thugs on drugs. We'd be talking about tardiness.

Lance does sometimes jump to conclusions, BUT he is a lot better connected to the team insiders than anyone on this board. He catches a lot of flack for doin his job. I don't think anyone is saying that what these players are doing is commendable. However, it is not that odd either. As far as the number of suspensions and arrests, well, lets just look at days jail time. We have none. Thank you, come again.

What is odd is the frequency of their occurrence. Yes, other Pro teams have players who do stupid things...yes, it happens, but not at the rate and frequency that we've jsut seen.

I refuse to judge these issues solely on how many, "Days in Jail" it turns out to be. Doing so ignores that fact that there is behavior and tendencies that conspire to impede the progress of the team. It is the distraction, hassle, baby-sitting, annoyance, disturbance to team chemistry caused by these "gambles" that raise the cost beyond jsut "how many days in jail"...
