MacD BengalFan
The pitchers they got from the Nats look like they may be good enough to make an impact. I hope this puts them over the top into the Central Division lead.
UofLnMU
This was a surprise, as I think that Clayton is no better than Lopez, and I am frightened by "hot minor league prospect" shoing up in a trade with the Reds. I guess now Ryan Wagner has joined the ranks of CJ Nitkowski and the rest as no longer our problem.I'm slightly surprised that Kearns is gone without being traded for a starter. I guess that the starter he would have landed wouldn't be a step up.
jditty47
Gary Majewski and Bill Bray are pretty much starters...middle relief starters that is. we need them worse than we need kearns...and ya lopez for clayton is a swap so who cares...and we have aurillia too that can play the short. our relief pitching has sucked....plain and simple. PMThor
I trust Krivsky. That man knows baseball. We needed pitching, and we got some help.We won't miss Felipes D, and we are heavy with outfielders, so Kearns was expendable (although I don't think Dunn should be out there). Our bullpen has cost this team somewhere around ten games this year with blown leads, and it was a priority to get help there. I am very happy with this trade. Krivsky knows his stuff. He got us Aroyo and Phillips. We will be better because of this trade.
bengalboomer7
I don't know. I think they gave up just a little too much for what they got, especially with kearns thrown in there.Right now I'll trust Krivsky, but I'm skeptical
ArmyBengal
I think we gave up a lot as well... At least a couple 1st rounders in Kearns and Wagner, but we got what we "needed" and I think this puts Freel into the mix in the outfield better. Personally, I'd like to see Griffey moved to right and let Freel roam center field with his wheels... This could be a huge trade in the long run !!! Still hoping for good things and I to trust Krivsky !!!WHODEY !!!
Stripes
At first sight, I think this trade sucks. I'll give it time though. In Krivsky we trust? Well I'm not quite there yet.
ArmyBengal
How about "Everyday Eddie" closing it out tonight to get the Reds the first win on the 10 game homestand ?? Nice to see someone capable of closing and not blowing !!! Oh yeah, I'm liking this trade more and more when I look at what it does for our bullpen !!! Might I say, we will contend until the end ?? Yep, I think that's what I'm saying !!!WHODEY !!!
San Antonio Bengal
If nothing else, without the trade I know that the Reds wouldn't have a chance in the stretch run. With the trade, there is now a potential for a chance. It may not happen, but I don't believe that the team will be worse off. One thing that I liked about Krivsky is that he came right out and said that the trade would be controversial and there'd be people who'd think he was crazy. There are so many who will do something like this, but then try to spin it into a positive light which just makes them look even more stupid. He may very well be crazy, but I have respect for him, although I'm not yet ready to say "In Krivsky We Trust."And one more thing, on the surface it seems like the Reds gave too much, but good pitching from a couple middle relievers and closers will win more games night in and night out than good hitting from a couple players. I'd have liked a little more from the Nats in the deal, but we won't know the real value of the trade for a while.
jditty47
we dont need lopez or kearns...lopez can be replaced by clayton and castro. kearns is a mirror of dunn pretty much...and we dont need 2 of them on the roster. we need bats in the lineup that can help our other players. like i said this is a good trade for us atleast in the short run. redsbengalsbucks
The more I read about this trade the better it looks. These two RP's are young and both seem to be able to throw hard strikes consistently.I have yet to be able to find a ground ball to flyball ratio for either and would be interested if anyone else has this info.A great offense has not helped the Reds win anything the last few years, maybe giving some of that lineup away for some better pitching is what is needed to get over the top. breenthemachine
As far as this trade goes, Im sad to see Kearns go. But im not sad to see Wagner go, he just wasnt what we expected. I dont like taking clayton, and losing lopez. I dont know how much clayton has left. I think it was good for both sides, but like some, im skeptical. bengalboomer7
ESPn is raking us over the coals. Say Jim Bowden screwed us over. Here's one thing they said that hit me, not saying their right, but this hit me.Said we were trading 400-500 at bats per year for 50 innings of relief. ArmyBengal
ESPn is raking us over the coals. Say Jim Bowden screwed us over. Here's one thing they said that hit me, not saying their right, but this hit me.Said we were trading 400-500 at bats per year for 50 innings of relief. I don't think it's as easy as that to label. What have we been able to do with Kearns, Lopez, and our crappy pitching staff ?? NOTHING !!! If nothing else, we have two younger pitchers to help us in our efforts to preserve the leads this offense builds. Kearns was playing well as of late, but typically goes through slumps of great proportion. Clayton, while older, will be ok... I'm still liking the move regardless of what ESPN has to say. Obviously they weren't watching the better than 10 games our bullpen has blown through the first half of the season. Oh, I'm not saying YOU disagree with the trade (maybe you do, maybe you don't), I'm just thinking it all out and I'm not unhappy in the least. I liked Kearns for the most part, but I think out team just got stronger...WHODEY !!!
semiotter
I like the trade and hope it opens the door to another trade with Washington maybe for A.Soriano..man what a team we would have then. Man I here you all laughing but just think if we had him with our new pitching!!! Playoffs baby, he would hit a ton in our park!!!!!!! ArmyBengal
I was wondering why they didn't try to sweeten the deal and get Soriano as well, but all I can do is assume Washington wanted far more than we were willing to offer and took what we were given...http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...sp&c_id=cinHere's more info on the big moves...WHODEY !!! jditty47
Danorfia is a good player and castro and clayton are better than what lopez has been able to do this year so far. we need 50 innings of pitching worse than we need 400-500 at bats that are barely better than what is still here to replace them.
ArmyBengal
Yep, Denorfia has torn it up in Triple A and we can only hope it carries over for him !!! Freel will also be covering things in right, but I still would rather see Freel roaming center as Griffey has slowed a bit and might be better suited for right... WHODEY !!! cincy9275
i like the trade . hitting was not our problem stopping the other teams hitters was a problem . now we have some guys that can get people out and hold leads for us . i hope it is enough to carry us to the playoffs . MacD BengalFan
Well, so far 4-0 since the break with the new pitchers making an impact in some form or another. I will wait until the end of September before I pass judgement on the recent trades. But they are looking pretty good so far.
