ArmyBengal
As mentioned in another thread, this is not the year we reach into the supplemental draft and take a player of questionable character !!!WHODEY !!!
HairOnFire
Screw it. If the Bengals can land a player like Brooks on the cheap I'll end the day doing backflips on my front lawn.
Bengalbob
Take it for where this comes from, but according to PFT we drafted Brooks in the "Turd" round. Personally I love the pick . . .http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm[Edit] Confirmed on ESPN . . .http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2518193

The guy was expected to go round 5. Awesome job all around. Kicked out of school, can't stay off drugs. Couldn't get his old head coach to say anything decent about him. Struggles with weight. Had to have the shuttle cone test explained to him in detail.Somehow I knew the Bengals would take him.
combatbengal
Well we have Henry! Guess we need somebody to compete with him. Who can get arrested the most times?

Wow, I hope I don't hurt myself. There's risk involved, but this guy was once mentioned in the same breath as AJ Hawk, and was projected to be taken in the top 10, perhaps the top 5. We're talking about rare talent.
ArmyBengal
This guy was projected round 5 ??? Everywhere I looked and read up on him, had him going in the 4th, but more than likely someone would drop a 3rd to get him and what do you know ??? The Bengals got him...WHODEY !!! Kazkal
Damn Im late, however the 3-4 is coming!!!I hope so.....WHO DEY!!!If we are moving towards the 3-4 but sticking 4-3 year i wonder what de / dt's we keep
ArmyBengal
All it takes is one more positive test from Thurman (gone for a season) and the 3-4 would be out the window... Who would take his place ?? Miller ?? Laughable, just laughable !!!WHODEY !!!
BengalBillyBob
The Bengals have absolutely NOBODY on the roster who could be an adequate 3-4 DE. NOBODY! If they go 3-4 it is a few years away.
Wraith
Bryan Robinson?John Thornton?Mathias Askew?Johnathan Fanene?Robert Geathers? What do you mean we don't have any 3-4 DEs? We have LOTS of 3-4 DEs, one could defend the statement that we have more 3-4 DEs than 4-3 DTs and DEs combined.
ArmyBengal
If anyone needs further proof about waiting (at least) another year for the 3-4, go read the article on Bengals.com...WHODEY !!!
alleycat
If anyone needs further proof about waiting (at least) another year for the 3-4, go read the article on Bengals.com...WHODEY !!!Yeah, Bengals.com has been an absolute clearinghouse of information about what the team is REALLY planning. Just like Odell's absense from camp for personal reasons. Hobson is literally the last to know. What about this report from Kirwan that he spoke to Marvin who was clear about switching to a 3-4? ArmyBengal
I never stated it was an "absolute"... We are still a year away (at least) and I'm not ruling out the change...Regardless, please then share your vast insight to who we have to run the 3-4 and the depth needed to make this happen this year. If you include Caleb Miller in the mix, please don't waste your time...WHODEY !!!
Wraith
I don't think you make this change this year either. Nicholson and Brooks are rookies so they can't be counted on this year to do anything other than provide depth, play in special situations and play special teams that leaves Thurman, Landon Johnson, Pollack, Simmons, and Jeanty as your backers. You might as well put Jeanty into the rookie category as well since this is his first NFL season and he is switching positions from DE. Now that we have Thurman's suspension confirmed that leaves us with three vetern LBers and three rookies for the first 4 games, since you won't make a change like this mid-season that rules out a base 3-4 this season. Besides what would you do with Justin Smith?Next season however, provided that our guys stay out of trouble, we can likely make the 3-4 transition without making wholesale changes to our roster. We have depth at NT with Adams and Peko (or Shaun Smith), we have a stable of 3-4 DEs in Robinson, Thornton, Askew, Geathers and Fanene, we have depth at OLB in Pollack, Jeanty, Landon, Brooks, and Nicholson and with Brooks and Nicholson you have the ability to rotate them between OLB and ILB and one of them (Brooks or Nicholson) will pair with Odell as the starter, My projection?WSDE: Robert Geathers backup: FaneneNT: Sam Adams backup: PekoSSDE: Bryan Robinson backup: AskewWSOLB: Landon Johnson backup: JeantyWSILB: Odell Thurman backup: NicholsonSSILB: Ahmad Brooks backup: NicholsonSSOLB: David Pollack backup: BrooksThat setup won't work this year because of inexperience and Odell's suspension but next year? watch out! ArmyBengal
Agree about next year and things quieting down a bit !!! The thought of our defense not having all the issues it is currently dealing with is scary good. It would go back to the type of defense Lewis is known for, adnd in my opinion would be very VERY INTENSE !!!WHODEY !!!
