BengalByTheBay
wow is what i thought when i saw that on espn.com...one of the reasons lovie smith is a solid coach. They had that nasty hold-out with Benson last season that probably hurt him and the team. I'm sure that was on their mind in getting the business done this year.
ArmyBengal
It doesn't hurt when you don't have to wait on any 1st rounders to sign and figure out your placement, since their 1st pick was in the 2nd round, but that is great for them !!!WHODEY !!! HairOnFire
It sorta grinds on you knowing the Bengals haven't even begun negotiations with their picks. Wait for it. In the next couple of days Hobson will explain that most of the folks in the front office are taking their vacations right now.
Stripes
It's annoying, but the Bengals seem to be in the same boat as the rest of the non-Bears NFL at the moment. If we're still waiting into August, then it'll really suck, obviously. cincy90
In my opinion da bears are idiots. They have something called a salary cap to worry about. There is a reason every team in the league negotiates and sees how other deals turn out. By jumping the gun, they will never know if they could have negotiated and saved more room on the cap. They could have just screwed themselves if these deals turn out to be on the high side compared to others in the league. I would wait until a couple weeks before training camp to get desparate. Kazkal
+ the bengals are also trying to sign top 5 LT and top 10 guard
ArmyBengal
I don't think the Bears jumped on this one, as you can come close to guessing what the price would be and seeing as they had no 1st round pick, it helps them a lot. As for the Bengals, I hope they get to work and get these guys in camp, but I can't see anyone we drafted being in a position of great need like Pollack was last year when he and his agent went all asshatish on the team...WHODEY !!! Apparantly, they only raised salaries 5% from last year's slots instead of the 20% the NFLPA is clammering for.

ArmyBengal
2% huh ?? Yeah, the Bears got screwed !!! WHODEY !!!
redsbengalsbucks
This wait and see how the slot works out crap is stupid. If the Bears overpaid these players than all the next signings are going to use that to get more money. If the Bears got great deals on these players than all the next signings are going to find it harder to get more money.Seems to me that an active signing team has more leverage than a team that waits to be slotted into a specific amount of money for the spot in the draft. I would like to see the Bengals at least attempt to be a little more active early to sign thier 2nd and 3rd rounders on a regular basis. I can see waiting for the lower rounds, they are pretty set anyway. The 1st rounder will probably not sign a deal that the Bengals would want anytime early or late. ArmyBengal
In my mind, any signing helps speed up the process and this is good !!!As for saving teams cash on signings, you need not look any further than the #1 pick of the draft. Super Mario signed for a lot less than Bush would've demanded at the #1 pick and due to that, the increase from last years #1 to this years (percentage wise) was less, hence reducing the increase for the rest of the first rounders. All in all, I don't really care about any of it, as long as the Bengals get theirs done...WHODEY !!!

I would wait until a couple weeks before training camp to get desparate. If a team is known as being idiots by wanting to have all of their draft picks signed, sealed, and on the field before training camp then I can live with that. Benson hold out killed them last year, once the guy did come in he did not know the blocking schemes and cost them on more than one play- then he gets injured and that's that. Besides the fact highest pick was a second rounder, if salary cap concerns and 'wait and see' what other teams are doing starts affecting the later rounds in the draft then all teams will be lucky to ever get their first round picks signed!
