combatbengal Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 Has anybody made a trip to the hall of fame in Canton? If so, is it worth a visit? Trying to plan a vacation with my kids. Quote
BengalBillyBob Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 Yeah, it's great. All of the Bengals stuff will overwhelm you Quote
andybren Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I remember going as a kid, but was too young to really appreciate it. If memory serves, it was the summer before the Bengals played with the striped helmets, so it was the first time I was seeing them. That's all I really remember. I guess my point is that it might be worth waiting until your kids are old enough to get anything out of it. Unless of course you live close enough to make return trips. I grew up near Columbus and haven't made it back since. Quote
KimoTherapy Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Yeah, the Ken Anderson and Ken Riley exhibits were the funk! Quote
Indycat Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Has anybody made a trip to the hall of fame in Canton? If so, is it worth a visit? Trying to plan a vacation with my kids.Been there, it wouldn't make my top ten for vacation spots for kids. here are some places we visited with our kids when they were between the ages of 6 to 16 that I would rate well above the football hall of fame.1 Yellowstone Park - things seen here will last a lifetime2 Washington DC - the monuments , the Capitol, Smithsonian3 Greenfield Village & Henry Ford museum in Detroit4 COSI (Center of Science and Industry) - there's one in Chicago and Columbus5 Cedar Point or Kings Island - Ohio6 Children's Museum - Indianapolis 7 Tennessee Aquarium - Chattanooga8 Hocking Hills State Park - Ohio - great place to see in the summer but to see it in the winter when all the waterfalls are frozen is phenomenal9 Mount Rushmore - pictures and TV shows do not do it justice10 Grand Canyon - pictures and TV shows do not do it justice11 Niagra FallsBoth the Football hall of fame and the Rock & Roll hall of fame were less than I expected when I visited them. jjakq27 Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Yeah, but it has been a long time since. Definitely for the football enthusiast but may not be for younger kids. Make it part of a group of things to visit in that general area. Off the top of my head here are a few other things to check out in the greater Canton area along with the HOF. Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in MassillonAkron Aeros minor league baseball teamWilliam McKinley Monument in CantonHarry London Candies factory in North CantonStan Hywett Hall in AkronAmish Country (http://www.oacountry.com/Ohio-Amish-Country-Map.htm) Quote
Stripes Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 You'd be better off going to Disney World. Quote
andybren Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 8 Hocking Hills State Park - Ohio - great place to see in the summer but to see it in the winter when all the waterfalls are frozen is phenomenalI agree. But for kids? You've listed some interesting places, most of which I haven't seen. But I wonder if most kids really want to spend their vacation driving to Detroit or South Dakota. I'm not a parent, but you probably need to make sure there are a few amusement parks or beaches in the vicinity of these places. Or at least make sure the hotel has a pool and an arcade for the days you're not appreciating the wonders of nature. Quote
combatbengal Posted June 28, 2006 Author Report Posted June 28, 2006 Thanks for the input. We've taken them to Disney, Kings Island, the zoo's Six Flags, Pro wrestling, baseball games etc. We'll just play it by ear. Quote
