The NFL screwed up

Well , Ill pose a hypothetical . The first play of the next game they go after Palmers knee and end his career. I fully expect this. they know they cant beat us. Why doesnt the NFl do something about a clear cheap shot. So they didnt does that mean we do the same thing? How can we compete if they go cheap nad we dont. IMHO something shoiuld have been done. We are heading into a buzz saw, that could cost both teams franchise QBs. This is sad

First, I'd say most people don't think Kimo's hit was cheap. It was legal, it was soon after the throw, and he couldn't see when the throw was made (probably) since he was on his face. That said, the Competition Committee has made it illegal now (haven't they?), and players have been educated. So now it would be a cheap shot, presumably, since it's both illegal and linemen "know better."

If you want to see a clinic on QB cheap shots, go look at the Ravens run up to the 2000 SB. What they did to Gannon (Goose picking him up, throwing him down, and basically doing a Yokozuna on him) should be criminal. And he wasn't the only QB they took out of a game with *very* questionable hits. They knew they had no offense, that was the best way to win for them.

So in other words, Kimo's hit didn't even register in the cheap shot hall of fame.

"Anytime you go low on a quarterback, you know that it is a little dirty."

- Ben Roethlisberger

I agree with Ben, if the tackler is given the choice of hitting high or low. But neither hit (Ben or Carson) was the result of a defender with a choice, (ie, on his feet). Odell was tripped, and Kimo was already on the ground having been cut by a lineman. Now if it turned out Kimo knew the ball was already gone when he hit Carson, sure, that's dirty. But if he was just trying to sack the QB, the only way he could, in a playoff game, you can't fault him.

If they want to make hitting a QB below the knee illegal like they did with the horse collar, then fine. Otherwise, you have to do what you have to do to make a play.

He didnt care if the ball was lose. then he turned and twisted

the knee he could have let go. They knew they couldnt win with Palmer in the game and took him out. My real worry is that this is going to become an every game thing for them. I never really disliked the steelrs till then. They are the dirtiest team in football. I think the NFL should get tough on teams that do this and not put up a propaganda defense on these type of hits. The steelers really took the NFL to a new low. I cant imagine how any Steeler fan can be proud of their Super bowl. They cheated their way to it!

It happened 5 months ago, bro. Carson is on an astonishing pace to start the season, so let's cool it with the "cheap shot" related threads and wait for justice to be served on the field, eh?

We do need justice and PAYBACK which is why we should have used our first round to pick up a DE.

Especially after what happened to Carson.

On the bright side our QB's leg will get better and he will regain his speed (Carson is fast for a QB anyway)

Their QB who was already dumb as a rock will get even dumber (if that is possiable) after chewing on windshield and with all the steel plates in his head he will be picking radio free europe in his head while he's trying to call plays.

First pretty much every single analyst, the league, Carson Palmer, Marvin Lewis, and the Bengals organization all said that hit was part of football and Von Olhoffen didnt attempt to injure anyone. That was clear to everyone except angry fans.

Second, that his IS STILL NOT ILLEGAL. If a player is blocked into a QB it is not dirty or illegal. If a player is on their feet and dives intentionally at a QB's knees when they have a chance to hit them in the torso that is dirty. You already cant hit a QB above the shoulders or below the knees. If a defender is knocked to the ground and reaches up to pull a QB down, that is FOOTBALL and legal and clean. Injuries happen.

Dirty plays are spears with helmets, clipping, dives at knees, slamming a player on his head etc... Those are all illegal.

Have to agree with Spain that crawling to get to the QB and than grasping and twisting the knee should be considered a cheap shot no matter which team did it.

It is time to move on though and here is hoping that Palmer is 100% the next time we see the Squellers.

I to think this topic is not worth much thought as it's a new season and our focus should be elsewhere, but I will say these few things and be done:

#1. I don't think the hit was all out cheap, but it was questionable.

#2. If we want payback, then lets sweep them this year.

#3. Carson is way ahead of schedule and looking better every day. What about Big Ben ??

The focus has to be about this upcoming season and will our defense be there to make it happen ??

WHODEY !!!

Thank you for being one of the elite few rational fans on here. It's good to see that SOME of you can be objective and fair in your assessments, and think with your head rather than your heart.

My opinion... Rodney Harrison: Dirty; Bill Romanowski: Dirty and a jerk-off; Joey Porter: Walks the line, but generally plays hard and clean but can be a jerk-off at times; Kimo von Olhoffen: Classy guy, clean player, never meant to injure Palmer; and finally....

Hines Ward: innaccurate rep as dirty from some survey in 2003, plays clean and is a pioneer in WR blocking. Used to be DBs could pretty much do whatever they wanted, popped defenseless WRs and TEs, run around and thrown their forearms and helmets as they wished. When Hines Ward started popping them back and knocking them out, they had to start watching their backs...and sides and everywhere else.

If you guys want a cheap shot, see Turkey Jones' body slam on Bradshaw, or just about any film of the Broncos O-line.

I think you'll have little trouble convincing this board of that last one; it was a Bengal lineman lost for part of 2004 who was the final inspiration for the "no cutting a defender away from the play" rule.

Glad to hear a Steeler fan acknowledge that Porter is a dumbass. Is there any way we could take up a collection to buy him a motorcycle? ;)

The Humane Society just called. Apparently, they're mad that we're beating a dead horse.

Why do they care if it's already dead?

Anyway... I guess I'm a bit tired of this discussion too. I'll always have bitter feelings about the Kimo hit... but in my head I'm pretty confident it wasn't an intentional effort to injure Palmer. It was a freak accident, and we need to move on.

There are already so many rules about the QB as it is. I'm as pissed about the Palmer injury as anyone... but we can't make a new rule everytime someone gets hurt. The rule they put in talks about not tackling a QB in the legs with "driving force." What the hell does that mean? If David Pollack falls down while trying to get to Ben Roethlisberger, and he has him around the ankles... He's just supposed to hope Ben trips? He has to be allowed to try to bring the guy down.

What happened to Palmer was gut-wrenching, but you can't keep changing the way football is played. We are going to end up giving QB's those red jerseys for the entire season. Maybe the QB's can be exempt from tackling, and two hand touch rules will be in effect.

Look... it was a freak accident, and at first I wanted to see the rules changed too. But you also have to let them play football. It's a contact sport, and people get injured. Cut out the dirty stuff as much as possible... but don't make rules against tackling.

You guys are buying into the NFL propaganda of shirt sales. You watch the hit , it was dirty. the real? is , will it happen again. The Steelers are capable of anything!

Q-U-E-S-T-I-O-N

You can't honestly expect me to believe you are so lazy you always have to type a "?", can you ???

Anyway, I'll say it again... Not dirty, but definitely questionable...
