derekshank
On the ESPN show around the Horn today I heard Mariotti (sp) say that with the addition of McNair, the Ravens were now already better than the Bengals because of the Cincinnati defense.I tried to view this as an unbiased football fan rather than a Bengal homer... but this is simply the most ridiculous claim I've heard in quite some time. The Bengals were 11-5 last year, and the Ravens were 6-10... and McNair is going to bridge that gap by himself? The Ravens will at best stay the same on defense... and it is overrated. The Bengals scored 63 against them last year, so I'm not in fear... and they lost several starters in the offseason.McNair is old and has missed 10 games in his last 2 years... and we've improved the defense with Adams, Dexter and having Madieu back. The idea that having a decent QB makes them a contender... fine, I can live with that... but better than the Bengals? What does this guy have against Cincinnati? Oh well... it's his credibility, which is currently lingering around nothing right now.
BigBenBlows
That would be like saying, if the Ravens picked up Favre they would win the Super Bowl. That's pretty dumb.
Stripes
Jay Marrioti likes to hear himself talk. McNair is a boost for Baltimore, but he's not the Lord Almighty. They'll need more to get through us, and our defense isn't going to be quite as pathetic as it was late last season.
Ripper
Alot of that stuff is he has to have an opposing take on topics if it was in the later rounds? Most of those guys are pretty damn annoying honestly.
HoTbOy
Are u kidding, the Ravens will be better, but I still think we are the better team...SMcNair is not Steve Austin the 6,000,000 dollar man...So if the Ravens are better than us where does that mean in the division 3rd because obviously he has the Steelers winning the AFCN... HairOnFire
((SHRUG)) The homer in me chooses to look at the McNair signing this way. With a competent QB under center the crumbling Ravens might be able to beat the Steelers now.

Maybe they will beat them twice with McNair.
stilldiesel
The Ravens beat us with TOMMY MADDOX at QB; 'nuff said. However, I have been a McNair fan for a long time and this is definitely a boost for the Ravens. I still believe the Ravens are a step behind the Steelers and Bengals but this move closes the gap. ArmyBengal
I like McNair, but this doesn't help the Ravens get to the playoffs. McNair is close to being done and the Ravens have lost more than they've gained from last years 6-10 squad. I guess this about solidifies the Boller sucks donkey balls comments for the past few years...WHODEY !!!
BengalByTheBay
I'm enjoying watching Billick attempt to laugh off the impact this is going to have on Boller. When it was becoming evident that the Boller experiment was failing they had two options. (1) Grab firmly on one end of the scab and let it rip. Lots of pain, profanities and pissed off fans. But, the healing would have begun. That would've been IMO about 2 years ago and things would have, by now, been looking pretty good. They would've had time to shop for a FA QB or draft for one and the offense would've been taking shape. (2) Stick with him all the way. Remember the "he's finally getting it" talk from the end of last season. That would be your starting point this camp. Sure, there still would've been half of your fans that hated him and a bunch of smug Bengals fans predicting that he would still suck and that a few good games was just an anomaly. But, you would've had a plan that you were sticking to that sent a message to your team and, more importantly, Boller that he was, indeed, the guy. What they did, however, was (1.5). They tried to keep convincing Boller that everything would be okay. They had the injury excuses to bench him, so he might even keep believing it. Now they completely jackhammer him with this McNair deal and, no matter what they're saying, there's no way that guy can have a shred of dignity or confidence left. I think they've basically gone Akili Smith on him -- he's ruined. Maybe he'll get another chance somewhere else and do okay in a few years(??). Unless McNair gets hurt immediately, I think they have lost Boller. I'm of two minds on it. On the one hand, with Boller around they were never going to be a great team and I do have a lot of respect for McNair, so I'm not thrilled that they get somewhat better this season. On the other hand, I think they've just prolonged their suffering by picking up an aging probowler who looks to me like his skill level and physical abilities fell off a cliff in the past two years. Yeah, he'll play okay and probably win them a couple of games by himself. I also think he'll play 10 games or less and probably leave them in a tough spot as they head into Nov./Dec. So, I'm pretty happy that a division rival appears to be making some very poor decisions that look to be a desparate attempt to have a respectable (but non-playoff) season or two at the expense of building a better team.
