ArmyBengal
I'm just glad, as already mentioned, he hasn't been signed yet. Anyway around, the staff has to take a hit on this one. Nicholson may have talent, but he hasn't even gotten on the field to have the chance to bring it. At least Henry produced at the next level before he started acting the d*mn fool !!! WHODEY !!! Dadraftnick
To everyone that has said that character does not matter ----WRONG----To everyone that thought Rucker and Nicholson were nice picks -- maybe you need to re-evaluate your assesments of them.Look for the two women that accused Rucker and Nicholson of attempeted rape to file civil suits, now that they have the big bucks, which if it happens will no doubt be carried on ESPN and court TV and make the Bengals the laughing stock of the league and be a major distraction for the team. Not to mention Nicholson will no doubt be suspended if he is convicted. We are still waiting to see how long Henry will get suspended--if he doesn't do something (stupid)to get even more time off while he is waiting for his numerous cases to run their course.CHARACTER MATTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! redsbengalsbucks
This case seems to look like an old arguement resurfacing between a player that could not make it to the next level and one that did.Looks to me like the player that did not make it wants a piece of the money that the player that did make it will recieve. Settlement out of court between the two parties and dropping the charges maybe the next step. It is to bad that his previous actions have resulted in everyone jumping to the conclusion that he is guilty, lets here the facts of the case before we make a judgement on this young player.Remember, I have never been a fan of this draft pick. GapControl
Let`s try to be optimistic about this people. It could be a lot worse. Doesn`t seem like an open and shut case at all for Nicholson. And Rucker hasn`t done anything as of yet. How many times have roommates cheated each other out of rent or property? Maybe the guy simply wanted his stuff back or some money which was owed to him. If this is so, I am not justifying his actions but he hasn`t had the chance to tell his story. Playing devil`s advocate, it is starting to sound a tad bit like Huggins` Bearcats down at PBS.But I always loved the Bearcats anyway. Sort of like a bemused father and his radical, antisocial son. princeton
to me, the bigger issue was that he seems to have showed up fat and slow at the combineto have all of that off-field baggage already, then to have literally brought another carry-on onto the field with him... it's clear why some of the teams refused to waste a pick on him. It's less clear why the Bengals weren't one of those teams

The women can feel free to file civil suits, but any lawyer is going to tell them that without enough evidence against them for the DA to even bother to file charges, they aren't going to win.On that note, Justin Smith tried to rape my momma's dog! Now he's got a bad character, right? It's one thing for people to say things, and another for them to be convicted.
Spain
Risk gain you want first round talent in the fifth you have to risk it. Simmilar ? were raised about Odel and he has matured.
schweinhart
One thing for 2nd and 3rd rounders like Thurman and Henry getting the benefit of the doubt, especially lacking the kind of off-the-field history Nicholson has. A 5th rounder is not big deal to ax if it comes to it. Maybe there's an explanation that will convince the Bengals to keep him, but it probably won't matter much either way.Mark Anderson 2 picks later and Charles Davis 10 picks later do look a whole lot beter in the hindsight. Still, I wouldn't hold Nicholson against the Bengals for rolling the dice on a decently skilled LB that late in the draft. The Frostee comparison to Nicholson shouldn't get much consideration. The assault claim against Rucker was a while back -- before he transferred to USC IIRC. The bigger concern for me about Rucker is how victimized he'll be on the field if he gets a shot to play. One thing to gamble on a character risk on Day 2. Another thing altogether to blow a Day 1 pick based on talent evaluation. Hopefully Frostee can bring at least what Big Duane left behind. GROIIIDayton
These charges are going to be dropped one guy is bitterthe other one made it somewhere while he is sitting on his ass pouting. Watch I bet it was either AJ's stuff or it looks very possible he could have been set up. Think about it why would he do this no one would steal something like that knowing they were going to get caught if they were about to make 1.2-1.4 million over the next three years. There is a lot more to this story then is out there. So give it some time it isn't as bad as it seems.
Edogger
And the sad part is the fact that he stole the equipment AFTER he was drafted!?!? What the...AFTER he was drafted! Jet23
Apparently, they robbed one of their own teammates! If i was Chad, I wouldn't just leave my gold teeth laying around in my locker! And that is why he will never be offered a contract. Just because a guy has a brush with the law (see Ravens roster) doesn't necessarily mean that they will be a distraction in the locker room. BUT, when you have to worry about what you leave lying around, because some thieving a$$ thug was signed, that is a problem. It was a calculated risk by Marvin, it just doesn't appear to have panned out. He burned a fifth round pick on a first day talent and it didn't work out. To me, it was worth the risk. Let's face it, their roster is to the point where fifth round picks are not guaranteed a roster spot anyway. However, my first reaction was like TNBG. It sounded kind of fishy, or maybe it was some type of property dispute with an ex-buddy, but given his past, he is probably guilty of something. HairOnFire
The Frostee comparison to Nicholson shouldn't get much consideration. The assault claim against Rucker was a while back -- before he transferred to USC IIRC. Agreed. This debate seems too quick to lump every prospect with character issues together. I'll suggest that each prospect has to be evaluated individually, and the decision to draft that player has to be weighed against the round where the player was selected. Finally, Bengal fans need to consider that the team does have a long history of taking chances on players that were labeled risks, and several of those players rank amongst the teams best players. How many of us wore Corey Dillon jerseys? Last, opinions about how Rucker will perform in the pros aside, his past history doesn't show a pattern of behavior that would suggest he'll move from one incident to the next. That's not exactly true of Nicholson.

I guess since everyone is doing it, it must be OK. Hell, why donl't we just legalize it and rid ourselves of the hassles.2. Just because the charges are dropped does not erase the circumstances and actions that led to the situation....for all we know it was mistaken identity, or the arresting officer is a cousin of an assistant coach. We can specualte all day but what remains is the details that led to the TASERING and ARREST.3. There was enough to suspend him from the team and send him packing just before the Orange Bowl. Team ules violations also count towards the pattern of disregard for authority, rules, pilicies, etc. To dismiss the incident based on lack of charges does not erase the cuircumstances, decisions, behaviors, choices made that contribute to the situation.4. There was enough proable cause and evidence to issue felony warrants. Not a good sign. Charges are filed. That is how you get the warrant for the arrest. Call me crazy but these incidents are patternistic. You can try to argue otherwise but you'd be wrong. Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, swims like a duck, fly's like a duck, quacks like a duck...but you'd probably argue it could be a turkey and demand a DNA test. HoosierCat
As much as it pains me to admit, I have to agree (at least in spirit) with TNBT. Nicholson does have a history of run-ins with the law...but arguably the worst was the first, a DUI. Since then he's had a goofy run-in with cops which apparently resembled one of those "capture, tag and release" sequences you used to see on "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom"; weathered an apparently false sex assualt charge; and now is accused of two felony theft counts, which sounds really scary until you look into the lame nature of the "crime," which apparently involves a bunch of college roomies pulling s**t over rent and some cheap stereo equipment. This will get reduced to some misdemeanor charge -- one count of being a complete dumbs**t or something like that -- to which he'll plead no contest. He'll get a fine and by September this will all be a distant memory.
