Uh oh, now they've gone and done it!

Carson will miss at least 50% of the season and/or go down with a re-injury or another season ending injury as a result of the SI Cover. http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5267

UPDATE: If you have read the link above, it has been completely rewritten with the previous covers and other content.

The Enquirer has an article detailing the SI article up online...

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...230015/1062/SPT

Here's a snippet...

"I hate (the stealers)," Palmer told Sports Illustrated. "I keep thinking about how much, back in college, I hated UCLA. I hate the stealers more than I hate UCLA. Yeah, it's because I'm jealous and I want what they have. I guess I'm just not that evolved."

I think its really cool that CP is on the cover... but I've never understood why SI puts people on the cover out of their season. Why wouldnt an NBA playoff photo, ML baseball, or track&field be good? Those guys are busting it during their season. Those who are in the middle of their season deserve it first.

Oh well. I'll take it when i can get it. Hopefully it is the first of many to come for CP!

:pokey:

:bangin:

do you know what SARCASM is?

DWS

it is all intended in good fun. I thought everyone would like to see the new SI cover, so i put some stuff up that would generate some good banter, since it is, what seventy-some-odd days to training camp when we get to see if Carson is cleared to participate in some capacity and watch on the edge of our seats for when he gets to play in a preseason game, and, and, and...

boy am i bored during the offseason, oh and oh yeah, it is the OFFSEASON and we have nothing else to talk about.

so bite me! add something to the discussion instead of attacking someone!

I agreed with you at first... but doesn't SI come out weekly? NBA and Baseball are the only things really going right now, and to have that on the cover every single week would get old. Especially all summer when MLB and the WNBA are it. Non-baseball fans won't pick up and SI magazine all summer long if they only have cover articles in season. Also, with the NFL being far and away the most marketable sport in the country, SI certainly doesn't want to go 8 months without an NFL story making the cover.

As you said, I'll take it when I can get it, and the fact that Palmer is the most intriguing off-season story (even more so than Culpepper, or TO in Dallas) speaks volumes about what he and Marvin have done for this franchise.

As far as the jinx goes, it only effects an athlete as far as they let such a thing get in their head. Therefore, with Palmer we have nothing to worry about.

Just read the article online. Young Carson is giving into his anger and embracing the dark side of the force. Sounds like a frustrated Bengals fan.

From the article:

"The problem was, Palmer's life kept getting worse over the next few weeks, as the Steelers scored improbable road victories at Indianapolis and Denver and beat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. Each weekend he would sit on his couch in Newport Beach, Calif., crutches at his side, and talk to Kitna by phone before the game, the quarterbacks reassuring each other that Pittsburgh's elimination was imminent. Inevitably, Palmer would be back on with Kitna a few hours later, screaming, "Can you believe this?"

When Palmer vented to Lewis, the coach told him it was a good lesson for the Bengals to see another AFC North team raise its level of play. So, says Palmer, "I decided to take that approach. About five minutes into the Super Bowl, I thought, You know what? This approach sucks."

SI JINX: Foolish.... Most of the time SI puts a player or team on the cover and then they drop the next game. Well most of the time that team was 'due' to lose or they are playing a total powerhouse the next game and probably were not favored anyways.

I think this will be a great article and can not wait to get a copy. Smart move by SI, as everyone remembers the last time anyone saw Carson he was being carted off the field. Now take into the fact that most of those watching that NFL playoff game probably are not die-hards that try following his rehab either on here or in the papers and you end up with a intersting story for the magazine.

With SI the 'now stories' such as the NBA Playoffs are always a little late by the time they get to press. Take for instance if the Cavs would of beaten Detroit in game 6, if SI puts the Cavs on the cover they might already be down 0-2 to Miami by the time the magazine hits the newstands.

SI jinx bogus, now the Madden jinx that my friends is real!
