ChadJohnson-85
Who's going to be the starting corners for the Bengal's in 06? Im guessing O'Neal and Joseph. The_Next_Big_Thing
In 06, it will be James and O'Neal. Joseph will be at best the nickleback, and more than likely a dimeback.
Kazkal
James,Oneal and ratliff (for nickle) joseph will have earn his spots I could see him taking over knickle but take some time be able get starter+ why rush him .
Stripes
I think it'll be James and O'Neal for most of, if not all of, the season. He'll play a lot of nickleback, or spell the starters if need be. He should be a starter by next season, and I could see it happening as early as week 10 (unless Tory struggles mightily before that). DC_Bengals_Fan
They need to teach Joseph to play corner first. His technique isn't even close to being ready for the NFL. I know he's fast, but his backpedal reportedly sucks. As such, good receivers are going to be able to break his ankles with good double moves.I'm hoping he spends '06 learning to play corner, and is ready to be a shutdown-type guy starting in '07. All that is predicated on Tory being able to outrun a tree when he gets to camp this year.
Dieter
No doubt it will be Oneill and James. Joseph has little D-1 experience and has a lot to learn to be a NFL corner.

I have to think his technique is kind of raw though, because otherwise given his speed he wouldn't be there at 24.For what it's worth, here's where I got my info from:http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2006/joseph_johnathan
slf
... we must have heard different because I heard he had good backpedalwell, not according to nfl.com 's Prospect Profile on Johnathan Joseph... The big thing that holds Joseph back is that he uses a side-pedal primarily and gets upright and on his heels too often, which hinders his ability to stay with the receiver out of cuts consistently, allowing slower receivers to catch too many passes against him. ...... Joseph is going to have to become more efficient in his backpedal (will have to really learn a true backpedal) by bending his knees and staying over his feet in order be more consistent staying on the receiver's hip out of cuts. He got turned around too often in off coverage and will need to become much more consistent. ...
Kazkal
Well guess my draft thing was different all same though I agree with kid needs sit tory isen't as bad as everyone thinks it would be bigger risk throwing a rookie that lacks experiance let kid sit well he gets coached and groomed and tory should be fine with madieu and dexter aslong as they are heathlyPS,I'll eat crow my bad

I dont know if this has been posted here yet, but oh well there aint nothing post anyway's ........Here's a really dumb question: Why must a player be a starter in their rookie season in order to make an impact? Rookie cornerbacks are prime candidates to be roasty-toasty by the end of the season, especially ones who haven't had a lot of time to play the position in college. Let Kevin and Louie coach him and teach him the proper way to play cornerback, and let him watch, learn and then compete for a starting job. If the coaches think he's ready by then, great. Otherwise, let him learn and not have his confidence crushed when he's left out on an island against the likes of Hines Ward, Steve Smith, Rod Smith, and others who wish to find a rookie cornerback to have a big game against. da boss
If we give Joseph a year and let him learn from O'Neal, James, and our db coaches he will be a stud in 07.
HairOnFire
I think Joseph is too raw to unseat Tory James quickly, but I'm guessing JJ will play quite a bit this season, including getting early reps. In my opinion James has hit the invisible wall in both of the last two seasons, resulting in his play falling off late. If Joseph can be brought up to speed quickly it should help James stay fresh, giving the Bengals a far deeper CB corp than the group they took into last years playoffs. ArmyBengal
I think Tory and Deltha will be the starters WITHOUT question... How much better will both Tory and Deltha be with Madieu and Jackson as the starting safties ?? I think those two could put BOTH Tory and Deltha in the probowl next season. The only way I see Joseph starting this year is if there is an injury, but even then, Ratliff would probably get the nod.Put me in the camp that it's nice to not have to rush the rookie and that we couldn't ask for a better situation in having him learn from two probowl caliber corners, as well as going up against the likes of Chad, TJ, and the WR corps here in Cincinnati !!!WHODEY !!! HoTbOy
I guess everyone else has answered your ?, no doubt it will be TJames and DOneal, they may use JJoseph in blitz situations but he will not start this year...I can't wait to see what he can do on the field, but as a starter it will be in 1 or 2 years...let him learn behind TJames and DOneal like CPalmer did behind JKitna...
