WretchedOne
James Joseph...inexperienced...has been flying up the board based on his workouts...running for scouts in different than covering Marvin harrison or Steve Smith. If you can't even get the guys name right (JONATHAN Joseph), how are people supposed to believe what your "opinion" of him is???? Yeah, the guys fast, but uhh....He can like....cover to.http://www.thefootballgenius.com/draft/tfg...thanJoseph.html A player who was hurt the year before and only really has one year of top Div 1a football experience rarely gets a First Round grade from TFG. The exception this year is South Carolina CB Johnathan Joseph, a JUCO transfer.Johnathan’s lack of experience can show. Against Arkansas at the start of Q4, Jonathan was there in perfect time with the ball on a 10 yard comeback route. He could have decked the WR as the ball arrived or gone in front of the WR to deflect the ball. Instead, for some reason, Johnathan went behind the back of the WR and tried to wildly swipe the ball, whiffed and gave up a big gain. That type of problem is likely fixable. It has been reported that Johnathan has been timed in the mid 4.3’s. Against Missouri in Q4 of the Independence Bowl, Johnathan chased down Missouri QB Brad Smith from behind after a 50 yard gain. What was interesting about that play was that Johnathan actually came from the other side of the field. That play reminded TFG of a 1980’s Cowboys-Redskins game where Darrell Green chased down Tony Dorsett in similar fashion. Needless to say, Brad Smith was pulling ahead of the rest of the Gamecock defense except for Johnathan Joseph. TFG has all but three South Carolina games on tape, including 5 of the last 6 games (don’t have the Clemson tape). Nobody really ever separated from Joseph. There were some completions in front of him where he was on the WR immediately. Joseph lost a jumping match to a Missouri TE who is listed over 6’6” in the end zone. There was a TD against him early in the season where it looked like Joseph misread his zone. Other than that, virtually nothing got passed Joseph at all. Add it up and South Carolina’s Johnathan Joseph is the best healthy cover corner prospect in the 2006 NFL Draft right now. His foot adds to his injury risk, but a completely healthy 2005 season greatly reduces that risk. 01/15/06TFG is not yet finished with the South Carolina tapes, but Gamecock corner Johnathan Joseph is grading out as a solid First Round cover corner. Joseph missed most of 2004 with a broken foot, but appears to be fully recovered. Great corners have specific talents – speed, fluid hips, explosion, ball recognition, ball skills etc., and Joseph has all of those. While experience means the most to the QB position, it means the least to the cover corner position. You cannot teach the brain to learn to immediately assess the trajectory of the throw and command the body to explode to where the ball will be. While raw, Joseph is the best cover corner in college football that TFG has observed since Tennessee’s Jason Allen injured his hip. Joseph really had an outstanding effort against Georgia, and it seems that after the Georgia game, other teams really stayed away from Joseph. http://www.nfldraftalmanac.com/index.php?c=41&a=467Strengths: Johnathan Joseph, a former JUCO transfer, is a terrific natural athlete. He moves quickly and smoothly, demonstrating great speed, fluid hips and tremendous acceleration. It takes Joseph two steps at the most to reach top speed. In coverage, Joseph rarely gives up separation to wide receivers, and played very close to shutdown caliber level this year. He only gave up two touchdowns this year and few other completions. Joseph has quality ball skils, and can be regarded as a threat with the ball in his hands. He has good instincts, showing a strong feel for where the ball is in the air. While not having overpowering strength, Joseph does an adequate job of jamming and redirecting his opponent when he is asked to do so. There really isn't much else to say - Joseph looks and plays the part of a smooth, speedy cover man. It's entirely possible to see resemblences to Darrell Green in terms of athletecism and ability. Having only played one year of Div 1 ball, Joseph has quite a bit of upside, with room to grow as he gains experience despite all ready being very, very effective at his position. He might be a bit "raw" but the guy can cover. He ain't no 4.31 wonder who can't cover...(oh...and Kiwi sucks)
jjakq27
It's funny because I said the same thing to a buddy about Young having bust potential and he was up in arms due to the fact he's a HUGE Texas fan.If you listen to Merril Hoge on ESPN, (I don't know much about him) but he claimed Lienart should be a 2nd round pick and Young should be a day 2 pick. I like Lienart, so I think he's off on that one, but Young could go either way. Young gets my vote !!!WHODEY !!! One of the guys on last night's ESPN draft special, said Young could be the next Akili Smith.....ouch.
