kentjett Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 What do you guys think about our new second baseman. I think he is going to be a hell of a player for years to come. He is only 24 and his bat is starting to come around to match his excellent defense. Quote
Stripes Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 He's been a much better contributor so far than I expected him to be. Still, I can't expect that to last much longer, simply because he is so new to the league. I think it's too early to make a solid judgement on him. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Tony Womack already wants out becuase he knows his old ass is getting replaced!!!!!!!!!! Quote
CBin2k7 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 At one point in time Phillips was one of the better prospects the Indians had. Better than Johnny P., better than Hafner and Sizemore. He was a key piece of the trade that sent Bartolo Colon to the Expos, and he just fell out of favor.I have never been a big fan of platooning young guys. Let Phillips play everday, and see what you have. Womack can go. Krivsky has made some good moves since he has come on board. Now only if he could get rid of Dave Williams Quote

Stripes Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Krivsky has made some good moves since he has come on board. Now only if he could get rid of Dave WilliamsThat should be an option whenever we get Paul Wilson back. He isn't great himself, but it'd certainly be an upgrade. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 I forgot about Paul Wilson. Never thought I'd type this, and I hope Paul's reading cuz it's probably the only time he'll ever see it. "We get Paul Wilson back and that really strenthens our rotation" There ya go, Paul. Merry Xmas, Happy birthday, the whole shibangabang Quote
CBin2k7 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Why wait for Wilson. Heck if Justin Germano has one more good start in Triple A, I say call him up. He can't be any worse than Dave Williams.Brandon Phillips is 2nd on the team in RBI's with 13, he is taking advantage of this situation. Quote
Stripes Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Phillips also leads the team in batting average. It'd be lovely if he can keep that up and provide us with a more powerful Casey replacement (though I certainly won't go that far). Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Off topic a bit, but it has to be said. How good has Arroyo looked so far this year Just think if both him and Harang can top 15 wins this yearRemember, I'm an optimist. Quote
Stripes Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 I still think Harang is our best pitcher, but Arroyo has indeed looked great. If they can each get to 15, then we'll definitely have a shot at a winning record with this offense to back them. I have my doubts as well though. Quote

CBin2k7 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Harang is very inconsistent. He will completely shut down the Cards one start and then come out and get blasted by the triple A Marlins. That is not what you need out of your number 1 starter. Harang is 2-1 with a 6.50 ERA. Honestly I think the Reds most underrated pitcher is Brandon Claussen, he gives them a chance to win almost every time out. Quote
Stripes Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 I agree that Harang has gotten off to a poor and inconsistent start, but I don't expect that to continue. I think he will settle into his role as the season wears on. As far as calling him our number one starter, I don't feel comfortable doing that... But I'd say the same about Arroyo. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 after watching today, I take back what I said about Claussen. Quote

But I'd say the same about Arroyo.Arroyo is 3-0, with his only other game started he left when the game was tied. He also has 2 Homeruns and you don't feel comfortable calling him the Red's #1 starter? Sounds like you wouldn't settle for less than a Roger Clemens or Bob Gibson then. Quote
bengalindian Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Brandon Phillips has certainly been a pleasant surprise. I think Krivsky made a great move considering Freel can't be limited to the 2B role because he's so versatile. Even more, Aurilia and Womack are old, so they're not long term.Hopefully Phillips will remain hot offensively and the Reds will have a set infield AND outfield! Quote
AMC Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 I think Krivsky is setting a youthful infield for years to come. Next stop 1B.... Quote

I could call him the Reds number one starter, sure. But the Reds' pitching sucks. Put him on a better team, and he is not the ace, simple as that. I am not disappointed with him by any means, and I hope he continues mowing down hitters... But I have my doubts. He's a good pitcher, but not great. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Holy sh*t me to tears, we got a complete game shutout last night !!!What the hell is that about ?? When was the last time that happened ??Oh well, I'm still loving this !!!WHODEY !!! Quote
CBin2k7 Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Brandon Phillips, 17 RBI in one week. That is a very good week. Now tied for the team lead in RBI's with Encarnacion.I have a question, does anyone else think that Adam Dunn is a very overrated baseball player? Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 The Reds need to find an AL contender that needs a DL and is willing to give up some pitching. Dunn is an above average power hitter and a below average feilder. He is a liability in the feild and I for one was hoping that he would move to 1B when Casey was traded, he seems capable of playing that position. Quote
Kirkendall Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 I have a question, does anyone else think that Adam Dunn is a very overrated baseball player? No. We know what we get with him. Average to below average outfielder that only hits homers. I'll take it though... Quote
Stripes Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 I don't think Dunn is viewed highly by anyone outside of Cincinnati. He's not overrated, but he is CERTAINLY not underrated either. Quote
