GO85CHAD
can someone fill me in? im not sure on this but i think dbs would get better on a team by practicing agaisnt great offenses. like the colts. why do their dbs suck year after year in pass coverage. i thought after a couple of years they would learn from marvin and manning and wayne how to get a little better. now i know they dont go agaisnt each other all the time, but at least sometimes. am i just being stupid or do i make a little sense here? Stripes
I'd imagine it does make them better, but they can only go as far as their talent takes them. The Colts aren't the best example though, as they have a pretty good secondary with Sanders, Doss, Jackson, and Harper.
GO85CHAD
sanders and doss can only play the run well. jackson hardly played last year. harper is pretty good. he saved him in tenn game and had 3 other very solid games. ill give u harper but the others cannot play the pass well at all. Indycat
Colts went from 29th ranked defense in '04 to 11th in '05. That's impovement. We need our 28th ranked defense to make a similar jump this year if we're going to compete while Carson gets back to playing shape. Their biggest offseason change was adding Corey Simon. Perhaps there could be some correlation with our adding of Sam Adams? We don't have near their pass rush capabilities however. ArmyBengal
You would think that to be the case and I even made the argument that if we were to take a CB in the first **cough** Cromartie **cough** that going up against Chad, TJ, and Henry could do nothing but help him.I think the Colts DB's aren't bad, but I get what you are saying. If our defense can make the strides the Colts' defense did, IT'S F*CKING ON !!!WHODEY !!!
GO85CHAD
the colts also had a pretty easy schedule if you look at those teams offenses. they played us, steelers, pats, rams, and i think one other tough offense. their first 6 games they played creampuff offenses and they played ball control other then their score on everyplay style so that helped. they also got creampuff teams this year. dont let the stats mislead you. like our interceptions on the bears, packers, viks, and lions. look at those passing offenses. I feel that if the defensive line can get good pressure onto the QB, this will force a hurried throw causing an INT or an incompletion. If there is little pressure on the QB, this wll give the receiver time to complete the called route and the QB to find the open spot and complete the pass. Remember, the defense is at a disadvantage because they must react to what the offense is doing. The Colts rise this season can be attributed to adding a pass rusher to the defensive line. Although the Bengals led the league in INT's last season, they do not have a true pass rusher. Yes, Justin Smith led the team in sacks, the defense as a whole ranked at the bottom because of this. And not having a true run stopper. Now the Bengals have addressed stopping the run, the Bengals need to find someone to be the true pass rusher.
