kentjett
The reds starting pitchers are looking pretty good. Harang was supposed to be the best one and he is looking like the worst so far. Arroyo is a competitor and looks to have a pretty good breaking ball, Milton is throwing his fastball at 95 miles per hour(it was around 91 last year) and getting people out, Claussen is starting to come around and Dave Williams looked a lot better than he did in the spring. If our bullpen could do anything at all, we could be a solid team this year. We'll be one of the best offensive teams in the national league. I know it's too early to tell but let me know what you guys think of the team so far.
ArmyBengal
Anything is an improvement... I haven't been keeping up with the games outside of knowing they won, but it looks like a lot of runs are being given up. Like I said, I haven't been looking real close.WHODEY !!! Stripes
The pitching will need to hold up for the entire season, and I honestly doubt it'll go that way. I still think Harang is the Red's best starter, and Arroyo isn't disappointing so far. Claussen should have at least an okay season, and Milton is always a question mark. We'll see. CBin2k7
As good as the starting pitching is, is as bad as the bullpen and defense have been. I am telling you the defense cost the Reds the game yesterday and that bullpen is terrible, and it is very old.Chris Hammond can't get anyone out. His ERA is 189.
skyline
This is the best rotation we've had in a few years, but like others have said, I just don't see them holding up all season. And yeah...our bullpen has been awful so far. San Antonio Bengal
Hmmm... six games into the season and 47 runs allowed. Only Atlanta has more runs allowed (53) but they've played seven games. Looks like Cincy is already tops in the league in runs allowed/game. middy19
Right now the bullpen is horrible and the only way that they hold a lead is if the offense keeps scoring runs at the end of the game. I think that they should trade some of their infielders that they keep acquiring just like the player that they got from Cleveland.
ArmyBengal
I really do like the Reds and want to see them winning their games, but it irritates the hell out of me to see a team with so much firepower and no pitching to help the cause at all. Oh well, maybe someday !!!WHODEY !!!
Stripes
I doubt it stays this way. I see this season progressing just as recent ones have. The bullpen will improve into a solid unit at right around the same time the starting pitching runs out of gas. Either way, we're under .500. Whur CHad At?
I doubt it stays this way. I see this season progressing just as recent ones have. Those guys are just flat out lousy. With all of these IF we are gathering, we better trade for a decent RP now!!!!
Stripes
The bullpen was solid last year. Losing Kent Mercker will hurt, but I still think it will improve as the season wears on.
Whur CHad At?
Merker stills plays for us doesn;t he?
Stripes
If so, I'm an idiot.
Whur CHad At?
I think he does. He was there opening day. Maybe it was someone wearing a Kent Mercker costume?!
bengalindian
If so, I'm an idiot. You're an idiot. He's still on the team because I have the whole Reds roster on my fantasy team and he's playing for me. I think that the starting pitching will win or set this team up to win about 10-15 more games this year, but the bullpen is the reason that this team will not be a contender again. I think that the offense is fine, and starting pitching will definitely be more solid, but I don't see the bullpen really getting much better, so the Reds will be fighting the Pirates for the cellar once again. Stripes
Well if Mercker is still here (no idea why I thought he was gone), then I am even more confident. We have some good young arms in the bullpen, including Wagner and Belisle. I am a fan of David Weathers as well.
Whur CHad At?
Besides, Mercker didn't look good at all from what I have seen. He can be moved. But from what we have, he is the best we got.
CBin2k7
Some of the guys who contributed to the solid bullpen at the end of the year last year are now gone or in Triple A. Wagner is in Triple A, Shackleford is in Triple A, Standridge is gone. In their place is Rick White, Mike Burns, and Chris Hammond. The bullpen needs some youth. I was watching the Pittsburgh broadcast of the Reds game yesterday, they say the Reds probably have the most soft tossing bullpen in the league. Rick White and Belisle can get it up there, but the rest are soft tossers.
