He was in Vegas, wasnt Bowling. Doesn`t know where that report

came from. Said that he was at the craps table... maybe the throwing

motion of craps confused someone.

He said in a typical day he does 40 different exercises !

BREAKING NEWS: Carson had knee surgery, he does NOT have cancer.

No crystal ball to tell when he will be back exactly. But he is

working hard and doing everything he can to be back before

the Opener.

Said his most lingering memory of the Playoff game was being

in back of his Tahoe driving away from the stadium.

He doesn`t even think of "the hit" when he thinks of that game.

Excited about working with Chatman.

Talked to Trent Green about his suffering the same injury.

Said he is right on schedule...right where he is supposed to be.

The fans support has been overwhelming. Very encouraging and supportive. Very touching and heart warming.

so much for the ahead of schedule everyone was talking about

Palmer said he is exactly where he's supposed to be at week 10. Here's a rough estimate of an ACL rehab timeline.

- 3-5 days: Initial physical therapy evaluation.

- 14 days: Achieve 90 degrees of flexion range of motion and full extension.

- 4 weeks: Achieve 120 degrees of flexion range of motion.

- 4-6 weeks: Achieve full flexion range of motion at 135 to 140 degrees.

- 10 weeks: Initiate straight plane running activities, no cutting.

- 12-16 weeks: Initiate early cutting activities and return to sport activities.

- 3-4 months: Completion of formal physical therapy intervention and initiation of maintenance program.

- 6-8 months: Full return to sports participation unrestricted.

He said he has full range of motion... but I haven't heard any mention of him initiating running activities.

Said he is through the first quarter of rehab.

He has flexibility back.

Now the second quarter is working on the strength.

Running and stuff.

He said it pissed him off to see the Steelers win.

He wanted to see Seattle win so bad.

The Steelers are our rival...we don`t like them and never

want to see them win !

Defended Chad...

Chris Henry is going nowhere

Carson: "I can't wait to play with that guy again."

These were the two items I found most interesting in the entire interview.

What is cornhole?

In short, cornhole is like horseshoes for drunks. You thow a bean bag though a hole instead of throwing a heavy horseshoe at a spike.

Judging from the condition I've seen people in in Lot D,that's a good thing.

Notes:

Carson walked into the media room.....without crutches or notice of a limp

Knee "feels good"....considers himself "right on" schedule....hasn't had any bad days or setbacks....."knock on wood"

He's at week 10 of rehab....thru the "first quarter" of his rehab in a four quarter process....heading into 2nd qt.

Doing about 40 exercises a day....with about four people

Denied Las Vegas Review report of him bowling

Expects to be ready for the opener....but has no crystal ball to really know how he will feel

Doesn't know when he can start 7 on 7 drills, running and dropping back

Will keep his fingers crossed for mini-camp in May........but doesn't think that is realistic

Ready for training camp?: "We'll see, I wish I knew, you have to let the healing process play out, you can't push it"

Has not talked to Kimo.......holds no grudge, doesn't think it was intentional. "I don't care if he's in Pittsburgh or New York. I wish him the best"

Said initial reports of the surgery results were blown out of proportion

Back in town for last two weeks.....will now be in town until the season opener

Team has not asked him/consulted with him about the back-up QB.

Excited about Antonio Chatman........watched him warm-up during the Green Bay game.

Won't ask for uniform #3 back with Kitna now gone

Has heard from Trent Green and talked a "bunch" with Peyton Manning

Support from fans sending cards and letters has been overwhelming. "Very touching" to read the cards. "It makes you want to work even harder to get back for them". Gets care packages from grade school classes.

Other comments:

*"It pissed me off that the Steelers won the game (he got hurt)....they are the team nobody in our lockerroom wants to see win. It just gives us more motivation to beat them now"

*"We are still a young team with a lot to figure out. We know we can play with and beat the best. We are still a ways from the team we can be"

*Can't wait to play with Chris Henry again. What he went thru will make him stronger. In every day working about....every single day. I hope he's here for the long haul. He made some bad decisions. He's sorry. He's got a lot going on, and it's tough to focus. He'll move on.

Palmer updates rehab

BY MARK CURNUTTE | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

If his rehabilitation were a football game, Carson Palmer said this afternoon he is through the first quarter and heading into the second quarter.

“I have the extension back in the leg. Now we’re moving onto strength and conditioning,” said Palmer, the Bengals quarterback who spoke to the media today for the first time since undergoing knee surgery.

“Then it is the running and jumping,” he said.

Palmer had surgery Jan. 10 in Houston to replace two torn knee ligaments. Palmer suffered tears to both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee.

He walked into the Paul Brown Stadium interview room without the aid of crutches. There was no sign of a limp and little visible evidence of atrophy.

Palmer had been working in California and has switched his base to Cincinnati. He returned two weeks ago.

“Everything is going as scheduled and planned,” he said. “I’m just starting to get to the point where I can push weight around.”

Palmer said he still expects to be the team’s starting quarterback on opening day but can’t predict the future.

“I don’t have a crystal ball,” he said. “But, no question, that’s what I’m expecting. I still expect to play Game 1 in the preseason.”

Palmer displayed the type of aw-shucks attitude that has endeared him to fans, who have flooded him with get-well wishes ranging from 10-foot high cards and pictures drawn by pre-school students.

“I had knee surgery,” Palmer said. “It’s not like I have cancer or lost a limb.”

Palmer was hit from the side on his first pass play by Steelers defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen in the 31-17 loss in the AFC wildcard playoff game Jan. 8.

Palmer said he has not spoken to von Oelhoffen, who has since signed as a free agent with the Jets.

“Football is a very physical game,” Palmer said. “Things happen. I don’t hold a grudge.”

Though Palmer lobbied for the Bengals to re-sign backup quarterback Jon Kitna, Kitna is gone. He signed a four-year contract Monday with the Detroit Lions and has started working out in their offseason program.

The Bengals did sign journeyman quarterback Doug Johnson in January and have two healthy quarterbacks, Johnson and Craig Krenzel, under contract. The club is looking for a third quarterback but has failed to land either Sage Rosenfels or Brian Griese, two free agents who signed with Houston and Chicago, respectively.

The Bengals’ focus for a quarterback now appears to be zeroing in on former Rams backup Jamie Martin and former Steelers starter/backup Tommy Maddox.

No. 9 doing fine, but still no answers

By GEOFF HOBSON

March 22, 2006

1:10 p.m.

No. 9 says he’s doing fine.

But Carson Palmer, who took Jon Kitna’s corner locker but not his No, 3 jersey, doesn’t know when he’ll be back. He does know that the May minicamps are too soon and that Opening Day is too far away to make the call.

He does know that he has normal range of motion in the reconstructed left knee and that he’s “where I should be,” ten weeks into rehab.

“I wish I had a crystal ball. I know everyone wants to know a date when I ‘ll be back. I wish I had a date. But we have to sit back and see what happens,” Palmer said Wednesday at a Paul Brown Stadium news conference, his first interview since Jan. 10 reconstructive knee surgery.

Palmer, 73 days removed from the hit by Steelers defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen that tore two knee ligaments in the Wild Card Game at PBS, says he goes through 40 exercises a day during rehab at PBS. He doesn’t know when he’ll be allowed to drop back and throw or start running and says he’s a quarter of the way back “if this is four quarters.”

Palmer says he has no ill will toward von Oelhofen, but admitted he was so “ticked,” when the Steelers won it all that he turned off the Super Bowl* when Seattle fell behind.

He had much nicer things to say about the Bengals’ faithful that have showered him with get-well wishes and gifts that included three 10-foot greeting cards.

“Very overwhelming. It’s really touching to me and my family,” Palmer said. “It just shows the loyalty and support in Cincinnati and from the Bengals fans. It makes it that much more exciting and makes you want to work that much harder to get back. I feel like I’ve really brought something positive into their lives and it’s so special for me.”

Palmer says he’s seen replays of the hit, but that the only thing that comes to mind when he sees is what happened later. When he was driven home that day lying on the folded seat of a truck in the third quarter, he remembers the lights of the stadium and the crowd noise fading.

“It was heartbreaking,” he said.

Palmer defended two of his receivers that have been under fire this offseason, Chris Henry for a felony gun arrest and Chad Johnson for an alleged half-time outburst in the locker room during the Wild Card Loss.

“I look forward to playing with that guy. . .He made some bad decisions. He more than anybody knows. . .he’ll move on,” Palmer said of Henry.

“Chad is a fierce competitor,” he said. “That happens in a negative situation like that. A lot of rumors get started after a big loss. Somebody pops off, says something they shouldn’t have said, makes something up. . .Nothing happened, and we’ll move on.”

Affirming his position as the Everyman Superstar, Palmer has replaced his local celebrity golf tournament with a June corn hole tournament he hopes can be staged at PBS featuring several of his teammates. He admitted he can’t golf and by then he’ll be able to toss the bags. Like the golf tourney, all proceeds are earmarked for a group of abandoned and abused children.

No doubt he’ll be signing a bunch of No. 9 jerseys that day instead of his college No. 3.

“Too late to change it now,” Palmer said. “I guess stick with what works. It might make the merchandise people a little upset.”

All you have to do is tailgate ONE Bengals game and you will never forget cornhole again! You can't walk in between cars without dodging bean bags.

Man, you guys have GOT to come up with another name for that. Just read that first sentence you wrote.

It's not like we named it! It was probably named by someone drunk playing the game after having his teeth knocked out the weekend before playing horseshoes!
