Mckracken
As you all probably have heard Griese signed a five year deal with the bears. According to espn the bengals are shifting there attention to Joey Harrington!!! God help us all!! Please carson come back on time I am not going to watch harrington or martin pass for 3int every game and start the season out 0-2 or0-3. Here's hoping for the miracle drug that gets him ready for week one!!!
derekshank
I don't understand this hatred for Joey Harrington. You really think he is worse than a guy like Jaime Martin? Joey just hasn't cut it as a starter, and gets a bad rap for being on a sucky team... but it isn't all him. He's just not a starter. Well, neither is Martin... but he isn't viewed as a failure because the expectations are lower. For the Bengals, if we need a guy to start 3 or 4 games while Palmer gets healthy, Harrington would be my choice over Martin. I like Martin just fine... but think Harrington would give us a better chance of winning. He simply has more experience... and the Bengals O-line and weapons in no way resmebles the joke that is called Detroit. Joey would be fine... as long as he takes backup money. Spor_tees
Joey Harrington + A Great O-Line + A Running game + WR weapons = Success! You just can't judge him by what has happenned in Detroit. Name one player that has been in Detroit the last couple of years on Offense that you would say has been doing good? It's a culmination of a lot of things that led to a need for them to overhaul. Well hopefully the Bengals will become the benefactor of that overhaul when we land Joey for 2 years where he contributes as a #2 QB. andybren
Could be worse. Give Joey a few weeks with Zampese and see if he can't squeeze a little talent out of the guy. He's not Akili Smith. Is he?
kingwilly
Wow. Greise to Bears..good luck Grossman/Orton, your playoff help has been noted, now step aside...Harrington is pretty terrible...Martin may be better than Harrington, and that is not saying much....Can someone please call Aaron Brooks or his agent....? crap.I think the Bengals front-ofice just got PWND by the other teams....nice work guys. Althat effort and visits and hand-holding and we have Doug Johnson to show for it.Here's to hoping Palmer is actually OK by week 1.

derekshank
Firstly... Harrington would fit this offense better than Brooks. Harrington threw 12 TD's and 12 INT's last year. Brooks threw 13 TD's and 17 INT's. He hurt the Saints more than Harrington hurt the Lions...Secondly... This is the market we've created by having a pro-bowl QB. Anyone who has a dream of being a starter is not going to go play in Indy, NE, or Cincy. It is kind of stupid to criticize the Bengals front office for having not signed anyone yet, when there are still plenty of guys that will be out there whenever we get around to them (i.e. Martin)... and if we land someone with more experience like a Harrington, that can only make us better. It's a good problem to have when you have a QB that is so good no one wants to play behind him. Therefore... this seems like a situation we've not had in the past... so we can't blame the Bengals for not signing anyone yet, when every single player who doesn't sign with us cites the fact that they know they won't start in front of Palmer. kingwilly
look, I realize brooks is not coming here. But he'd be the best fit of the guys who still need jobs...and arging Joey H is a better fit is a poor argument.Wow...12TDs and 12INTs for Lil'Joey...and Brooks had a bad year and still thrwe more TD's...playing no home games under conditions no team has ever faced...living in hotels, working from a high-school practice field and having Duece go down to injury, thus no running game.......yeah, that's an even comaprison...Harrington is just not very good.Brooks has thrown 120 TDs...to 84 INTs..235 for 20+yrds...45 for 40+..more than double the TDs and passes for 20+ in less than 30 more starts...Harrington has thrown 60TDs...to 62 INTs...118 for 20+....19 for 40+..these are the stats of a guy who was drafted by a bad team and never progressed from where he was in college...no development...Brooks is more than 20 points higher in career passer rating...it is not even statistically comparable....even when averaged out per year...I know Brooks will probably go to OAKland...good for him..he can take his rifle arm and throw to porter, moss and gabriel...Harrington will end up backing up in Dallas or SD...never getting another start barring injury to a starter. The thing that i have a problem with is that they need to sign a QB who can come in and execute..with very little drop-off...the season is 16 games and to have to end it because your team would not spend ADEQUATE ca$h on a back-up is maddening. derekshank
Brooks is a mobile QB with poor accuracy, and bad decision making skills. No argument about his stats is going to change that. Harrington on thei other hand is a pocket QB, who has had no O-line, and recievers that refuse to catch balls that hit them in the hands.Jeff Garcia sucked just as badly as he did in Detroit... and we saw Garcia do well in SF when he had Owens. Therefore, there is no reason to expect Brooks to do better in Cincy... because he's a different style QB, and has consistently underacheived given his weapons. Harrington on the other hand just failed to turn a bad situation good. He's not a franchise QB... but he'd be a damn decent back-up. Brooks wouldn't be a bad back-up either... but Harrington is guilty of failing to win games... while Brooks is guilty of actually losing them. kingwilly
I disagree about Brooks being error prone. If so, he is less error prone than more than half the starting Qbs in the NFL.I dont think Harrington has what it takes to win 6 games for the Bengals if he got 12 starts....he is a poor QB, that is why they brought in KITNA for chrissakes...and McCown and King...if they had a glimmmer that Harrington could pilot thier offense, he'd be there. Fact is, he can't, supporting cast or not. We all crack on Boller...and there is virtually no difference betwen Boller and Harrington. Both are terrible, terrible QB's, who can't win games and can't execute, no matter the cast.My point is that Brooks would have more/better to offer: experience, arm, mobility and stability. HairOnFire
I'd trade Chris Perry for Kyle Boller.
Stripes
Harrington intrigues me. I would rather have him than Martin for sure. I agree with those that have said they think Joey can succeed with a better team around him than he had in Detroit. He does have a strong arm, as evidenced by some nice deep connections with Roy Williams. Put him in there with Chad, Rudi, and a line that will actually protect him, and who knows? HoTbOy
Both Brooks and Harrington were ran out of town after being starters....Brooks already said he wants to start, and you have to know Harrington wants to start to prove people wrong...Between the 2 I guess i would rather have Harrington, i think he is more drop back passer than Brooks...If anyone of them would humble themselves and get that I WANT TO START mentality out of there heads and be a backup for a year, I would take the 1st to sign...these guys need to look in the mirror and realize they lost there starting jobs for a reason.... ArmyBengal
I can't say as I'm overjoyed with either of these guys. Brooks, while athletic, makes mistakes. He has had talent around him and has made poor choices. Kinda reminds me of a VERY athletic Kitna, except dumber !!! Harrington has not had any talent around him, but still has sucked and makes it hard for people to put ANY faith in him at all. I still think Harrington blows, but was of the mindset that Martz would have been good for him and he would have had a better year under him. What's to say the same wouldn't happen here if Harrington had Zampese ?? On that note, neither one would come at a discount, so I just don't see it...WHODEY !!!
