TJJackson Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Oh, you mean like Housh, then.....where Housh was awful for a few years and then put together a great season......history along those lines? Quote
HoTbOy Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 I don't know much about Chatman, only that he is pretty good return guy...I thought TPerry did a decent job back there, better than KRatliff...I thought that the coaches wanted to use TPerry more on O, is Chatman a 3,4 or 5 WR and is TPerry a 3 or 4 and where does all this leave CHenry... TJJackson Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 I think that the Bengals are planning as if Chris Henry will be suspended for all of 2006, and I think planning for that is wise. This will also give Kelly Washington one more year to prove himself and earn himself a shot at big money in the 2007 freee agent market. More power to the guy if he can catch 50-70 balls and help power us to another playoff run.I think that Chatman will be #4 of 5 WRs in 2006: Chad, TJ, Squirrel, Chatman, Tab. They might carry a 6th WR because the receiver corps is handling all the return duties, but the emergence of Chris Perry in a receiver role (there's the old "Marvin loves versatility" thing again) diminishes this need somewhat. The Chatman signing plus the late season emergence (to a degree) of Tab as a WR also probably nixes all possibility of drafting Devin Hester or a wideout at all. Which is good - pick up another defensive body or a punter who can take over kickoff duties instead. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Yep, I definitely think this puts a close to the Hester thoughts as well as drafting a WR until maybe the last couple rounds if at all. I'm more than OK with that as well. Depending on Henry, Chatman is the #4 or #5 in my mind. This is K-Wash's last chance. God I wish he would realize his potential !!!WHODEY !!! Quote

The_Next_Big_Thing Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Oh, you mean like Housh, then.....where Housh was awful for a few years and then put together a great season......history along those lines?Housh was awful? WHEN? First of all, he hardly played prior to his injury. Once he returned from his injury, he was a starter and succeeding. He always had it, he just didn't get the opportunity to show it.He's also not a SHRIMP! The whole knock on Broussard is that he's too short for the NFL, right? Guess what, he's just as tall as Chatman. Quote
TJJackson Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Go back and review Housh's record prior to 2004, ie 2003 and back Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Go back and review Housh's record prior to 2004, ie 2003 and backHe has no record. He had no QB. He was hardly on the field, and he didn't play very many games. On the other hand, Chatman has been with Favre his entire career, and he saw the field a LOT more than Pootie Tang! Quote
cincy9275 Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 a very soild signing i was hoping we would pick him up . we finally have some weapons in the return game . tab and chattman. so we lose walter and ohalete and pick up chattman and jackson . i say we just improved this team a little more with these two Quote
kingwilly Posted March 20, 2006 Author Report Posted March 20, 2006 He DOES improve the passing game? yes. He is AS consistent, if not more, than Walter was...but then Walter had Henry in front of him. A bit different of a player, smaller and makes YAC.He improves the punt return game by a large margin...in terms of actual results and potential. He is faster than Ratliff and as sure-handed.I'm not concerned with his size...he's more of a Steve Smith/Dante Hall size of player...they seem to do OK...maybe they can learn how to use a smaller guy, Palmer certainly has the arm to get it in to tight spots. Kazkal Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 This is a good pickup. Does he have the potential Blue Eyes did? Probably. Is he as consistant in the passing game? Not even close. Does he upgrade our special teams? No, but he keeps it about even. We lost Blue Eyes, but we got a guy who can return punts. Kevin was slower but had better hands. Chatman is faster but drops more balls and doesn't run his routes as well. Kevin was a good gunner on special teams, Chatman is a return man.Ya he's not upgrade on special teams vs I call a fair catch rat IMO he'll probbley be #4 / TJ's backup where KW and TAB will be chads backupOh, you mean like Housh, then.....where Housh was awful for a few years and then put together a great season......history along those lines?Housh was awful? BlainThePain Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 I like the signing. He gives us a new dimension to the offense, which is a reciever that can catch a dump off pass and break it open for a big gain (unless you count Chris Perry). Quote
peteroseforpresident Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Anyone still miss Kevin Walter?Yeah dude, I'll miss his physical special teams play. Quote
Kazkal Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 any update on wilkins? is he coming back or? guess it's a good thing we didne't cut caleb Quote

Housh showed promise from the get-go, he was just hindered by the injuries. Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 I like this pick-up, I was impressed with Walter last season but I think Chatman is an upgrade. Quote
