DC_Bengals_Fan
Is it just me... or does it seem downright stupid to replace Simmons with Arrington? Simmons may be losing a step... but Arrington doesn't cover anyone. At least Simmons is smart and knows the position. I don't know that Arrington can play WSLB well.I like Simmons and all, but the man is completely illiterate when it comes to reading screens. Dunno why... HairOnFire
Time to bump. The following snippet was found buried in a NY Daily News article about the Giants 5 year/12 million dollar signing of Will Demps. "The Giants still don't have a weak-side linebacker, though, and there now seems to be little hope of them landing LaVar Arrington. A source familiar with his plans told The News that "LaVar is talking seriously with other teams and has no plans to revisit the Giants." It is believed that the Cincinnati Bengals have become the front-runner for his services, and he's expected to visit there in the coming days. The source also said that Arrington's status will not be affected by the NFL Players Association decision yesterday to hit his agent, Carl Poston, with a two-year suspension. Poston was banned for his role in Arrington's dispute with the Redskins over a $6.5 million bonus, but he is planning an appeal. The threat of that suspension is why Carl's brother, Kevin, has been handling Arrington's negotiations this offseason." AMC
Arrington would be too much money in one player....Hob's got into this in his email response....Signing Arrington would hinder the extensions on the O-Line....Not saying we coudn't use Arrington, but we could live without him....But I guess you have to look at cap saving caused by the release of a player like Simmons...It's all in ML's hands.... HoosierCat
The funny thing is, is that it wouldn't hinder the extensions on bit...It would hinder extensions only because the Bengals would be forced to go significantly cash-over-cap to do it.Right now, my guess is that they are looking primarily to redo Steinbach and Bobbie Williams. And my further guess is that if they do, those deals will be front-loaded, with $4-6 million (for each) going against the 2006 cap. Figure a roster bonus in lieu of a signing bonus; that way the cap actually refelcts what is being paid out, and when we hit the magic $102 million number, we're done. Levi probably waits for next year; Willie will be gone after '06 at latest.
