ESPN's Top 50 FA

Here is an intresting look at this years crop of FA

Top 50 Free Agents

LeCharles Bentley is #1 FA.

Here is what they say about #24. Sam Adams

One of the NFL's top two-gap tackles of the past decade, who still manages to net three or four sacks per season while occupying interior blockers. Adams has made a difference on every defense on which he's played and, if you sign him, then you immediately improve versus the run.

That is excatly what we need.

By the way Kitna is all the way down at #43.

Yes this my first or maybe second post on this message board but like they say "long time listener, first time caller" or whatever it is....I just dont understand all the hype about Sam Adams!?!? I mean great he is a huge guy that can "clog" holes or whatever that is supposed to mean. First of all he is 32 years old and one foot into retierment. Chances are that he is just looking for one last payday before he is done. Secondly he just doesnt fit into our overall defensive scheme. Our defensive scheme is built soley on one concept and that is speed. From our CB's all the way down to the D-Line. Yes our D-line stinks something awful but adding "size" isnt going to make them any better. If we do go after any free agent D-lineman, we need to be looking at skills/potential rather than just size. Free agents such as Ryan Pickett, Rocky Bernard, Larry Tripplett...I mean if you think that all that we need is size to "eat up" blockers we may as well sign 6-2 340 pound Grady Jackson

Welcome to the board rook, first of all I never said we should go after a big guy like Adams, I said we need someone like that, that can stop the run. Adams is prob. the best. Bernard isnt' great, and Tripplett isn't all that either against thr run.

I would like to know where everyone think they acutally know what our defensive mind frames are. I mean are you a coach? DO you work for the team? No. Who says Marvin won't go after a big space eater? Did anybody see Baltimore's Super Bowl D-line in 2000. They had two fat asses in Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa. They did pretty well. He also had a big fat ass in 02 with Washington with "Big Daddy". You never know what we will do. Don't assume since Marvin hasn't signed a D-Lineman over 310 pounds that he won't sign one.

Its pretty easy to see what the defensive scheme is by just watching one practice or a game. During Marvins time in Baltimore and Washington he was not the only man making the decisions about the defense. The defense that he had in Baltimore was a fast defense except for the two fattys in the middle. He had undersidzed and speed guys everywhere on that defense i.e. Ray Lewis and as for Washington "big daddy" bust was clearly not the focal point of that defense.

Yes Bernard and Tripplett are not great but definately and upgrade to what we have. They are somewhat young, 27, and have room for improvement. I would rather see us get Ryan Pickett but there is no reason to spend a lot of money on him either. Argurabley the best DT combo are Jacksonvilles John Henderson and Marcus Stroud. They are not fattys but big guys with skills even though jacksonville wasnt that great with the run but you cant blame that all on them two.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not but 115 tackles is pretty good...more than anyone on Bengals got

no he is quite unsarcastic for dt thats insane! thats like line backer numbers

yeah i was about to blow a gasket, 115 tackles is ridunkculous...now thats the kind of production the bengals need :sure: for the right price of course

Why you wanna crush my dreams here huh ?? Can't I have a moment of delight dreaming of the "dominant defense" everyone claims is coming our way ??

Just kidding, seriously though, this would be a huge HUGE lift to our defense. Everyone claims to love the speed concept Marvin has for this defense, but there has to be someone BIG giving them the opportunity to make those plays...

WHODEY !!!
