The Associated Press reports Miami CB Devin Hester ran a stunning time of 4.27 seconds in the 40-yard dash at Miami's timing day for all 32 NFL teams Saturday, March 4. He ran a 4.41 at the Indianapolis combine last month, finishing a disappointing ninth among defensive backs. Switching from an indoor surface to an outdoor field likely helped Hester.

That's blazing fast. Gil Brandt had him at 4.32 at the Miami Pro Day, but still...smoking.

The CB Hester couldn't beat out -- Marcus Maxey -- clocked 4.42 and did 17 reps at Canes Day per Brandt.

Also of note, Brandt had Bengals LB coach Ricky Hunley among the NFL team contigent at the Pro Day. Gotta figure the Bengals are looking at Rocky McIntosh -- who just might be able to swing all 3 LB positions in a 4-3. McIntosh clocked 4.60 at the Pro Day and had a 42-1/2 inch vertical at the combine.

Another item from the Canes Pro Day...Eric Winston repped 22 times. He had declined to lift at the combine (no wonder).

I don't think there should be any doubt that Hester can move, regardless of his forty times. He's probably the fastest player coming out of the draft. It's his other skills that are in question.

Speed isn't everything, and a 40 times does not mean you are fast on the field either.

How big is Hester and do you think we can pick up w/ a third. Free Agency and the first 2 rounds are going to S, defensive lineman, and a TE. A return man would be our next p/u.

This is definitely a split camp on Hester, but think he would be a great addition. He may run a little like Ratliff, but 4.2 speed gets you around the corner a little bit quicker. There may be better options available when we pick and feel that will dictate how it shakes out. For how much I like him, I honestly don't see him in stripes because I can't see us needing him bad enough to make him a day one pick and think he will be gone by the time we pick in the 4th...
