schweinhart
The Broncos just restructured Matt Lepsis who had about $9 million in bonuses coming this week, so they probably are in a good enough cap position to where they can start thinking about inking J-Abe since they cut Pryce, Mike Anderson, and Putzier. But the big one-year hit from J-Abe (gotta be upwards of $10 mill) could cause them some problems and force another wave of cuts if he gets an option bonus instead of a signing bonus. HairOnFire
Three quick points... 1 - I told you guys the Jets would attempt to make a trade as soon as possible. 2 - I told you the trade compensation would likely be no more than a single 1st round pick, possibly even a single 2nd round pick. Now we're hearing the agreed upon price is the 29th pick in the 1st round, a lower valued pick than the 1st round pick the Bengals could offer. And if the report is accurate no sweetner is involved. If true it's a no-brainer. 3 - I told you guys the Jets would settle for compensation very close to the value of a Chris Perry. So decide for yourself how close the 29th pick comes to the trade value Perry might have. On the surface it's a slam dunk, but I've always admitted that a trade partner might not agree, and may not want Perry at all, due to Perry's history of injury. But here's the rub. If a team would agree to trade for Perry his value gets you close, if not all the way there. Bottom Line: Toldja.

Abraham's agent said today that he's had no contract discussions with any teams, and Abraham has yet to ink his one-year tender. Thanks for the heartfelt concern, but my arm is in no danger of breaking. IF you reread my response you'll find that I repeatedly use qualifiers like... "If true...." "If the report is accurate..." "If a team would agree to trade for Perry...." And for the record, my subtle back patting was related to having previously mentioning the idea just before being called a moron, idiot, and so stupid that I likely played in traffic. So, whether the deal goes through or not it appears that it wasn't an unthinkable idea, ehhh? In fact, I'd say that anyone who actually thought the idea was moronic is probably so mind numbingly stupid that they likely spend their days selling bags of oranges at freeway exit ramps. Last, mock the credibility of your own news sources all you want, I won't mind much, but a quick glance shows you also posted a rumor about a Jets/Bronco/Abraham trade from ESPN's Len Pastabelly. Last time I checked he hardly resembled the description of a college blogger.

I give a friendly warning about the source of a rumor and this is what I get. Well, I ought to have known better, anyhow. Anyone who actually believes that Chris Perry represented sufficient or near-sufficient trade value to pry Abraham away from the Jets (especially given apparent interest by multiple teams) is clearly stark raving mad to begin with. HairOnFire
For the record, I'm in an outstanding mood. I awoke with morning wood, which I was then able to share with my beloved wife. Following that, I was treated to some outstanding coffee, which much like myself was perfectly creamed. And get this, I topped it all off with two pieces of toast, both perfectly browned. Suddenly feeling like I was on an incredible roll of good luck I glanced at my morning paper and learned that Bush's approval ratings were at an all-time low, forever dooming almost all of the nutbar changes he's proposed. I cheered this news for obvious reasons, mostly because if the country has to have an idiot president it's best that his entire term be of the lame-duck variety. Finally, I walked the dogs, went to work late, and then left early. Life is good.
HoosierCat
Far too energetic for me. I worked from home today. Specifically, I worked on the case of Amstel left over from last night's boozefest with my boss and a few friends.Life fuggin' rocks, baby. Jets | Abraham will visit four teams next weekFri, 10 Mar 2006 18:08:07 -0800The Associated Press reports New York Jets DL John Abraham will visit four teams next week in an effort to come to terms on a contract with a new club and then have the Jets work out the parameters for a trade. Abraham's For the record, KFFL has previously identified Seattle, Atlanta, and Denver as teams interested in trading for Abraham. However, Atlanta is said to have backed out after hearing his salary demands. Denver reportedly has a trade agreement worked out and has had some contract negotiations. Seattle is said to have expressed interest only after the new CBA passed. As for Cincy? Absolutely nothing to report. Thus, I'm encouraged. ArmyBengal
Once again, look at the Browns D-line, I think he would be huge for them and think he would love to play for Coach Crennel. I see Crennel being to the Browns what Marvin is to us. With all that money they have, I believe they will be much improved. He just needs some time. On that note, let me reiterate how much I hate the F*CKING Browns, but would love to see them jump the Ratbirds and have them end up in the cellar this year !!!WHODEY !!! HoosierCat
Hey, what are friends for, right? Anyhow...a few updates today. Broncos | Team not willing to pay what Abraham is askingWed, 15 Mar 2006 08:24:05 -0800Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos are not willing to pay what New York Jets franchise free agent DL John Abraham is asking. Abraham would like between $17 million and $18 million in guaranteed money, pricing himself out of the range for some of the league's biggest spenders. The Broncos are waiting for his price to drop.Falcons | Team trying to trade for AbrahamTue, 14 Mar 2006 20:58:41 -0800ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Atlanta Falcons are trying to piece together a trade offer to present to the New York Jets in exchange for franchise free agent DE John Abraham. One significant blockage to a deal that, despite ongoing efforts from both sides, remains a long shot: The Falcons steadfastly refuse to include QB Matt Schaub, the player Jets officials regard as the centerpiece to any deal, in their trade proposals. It is believed the Jets are seeking Schaub and the Falcons' second-round draft pick for Abraham.
HairOnFire
Hmmmm, 17 or 18 million? Well, that's too much, and I think I'd follow the Bronco's lead by waiting for the price to come down. Then again, Abraham's demands are comparable to the 100% guaranteed cost of two years service as a franchise tagged DE, but in this case could be spread out over 5, 6, or 7 years. Frankly, it's a buttload of money, but any deal of this magnitude will involve a buttload or two. Quite honestly, I fear for my favorite fantasy more due to the rumor that the Jets are demanding a 2nd rounder in addition to the Falcons most valuable spare part, a better and more valuable player than Perry. I value that 2nd round pick pretty highly and wouldn't part with it. As for Perry, I'd happily slap stamps on his forehead and carry him to the mailbox without giving it another thought if it brought John Abraham in trade. BTW, the thread title still says "You be the GM", right? So who wants to get better fast, as in three 1st round picks this year? Broncos | Team shopping two first-round picksWed, 15 Mar 2006 08:23:37 -0800Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos are shopping their two first-round picks in the 2006 NFL Draft in exchange for early picks in the 2007 NFL Draft. The team does not have much cap space left after paying out several up-front signing bonuses.
