Congrats, Army. Welcome back to the Tri-state.
-
This poll is like asking would rather have Gonorrhea or syphillis.
You sound like you've had to make that decision before.

Plus, given our red zone passing issues after Chris got hurt in the Baltimore game, I am intrigued about the possibilty of adding Matt Jones is only to be a big target in the end zone.
Agreed. His size could make him a good downfield threat, too. Toss it up and let him catch it. He was actually having a breakout season in Jacksonville before the whole cocaine thing.

Here's a stat for you guys.....
Joseph = 4 seasons and 11 INT's
Hall = 3 seasons and 14 INT's
hmmm....
Simply means Hall can hold on to a ball better
Also means that Jjoe was hurt for a few of those games and had about 8 dropped INT's his first season. I'm to lazy to go find it, but I would like to see a comparison of Pass defended between the two of them.
Per rotoworld, Leon Hall has 60 over his first three years. JJoe has 68 over his first four years. That works to Hall averaging 20 a year and JJoe averaging 17 a year. Pretty close.

True, Joseph has dropped A LOT of interceptions, especially in his rookie year.

I didn't imply that signing him would fix everything, but he's the best alternative in FA that I know of, and a draft pick is not likely to come in and contribute right away. He still made some big plays last year despite being on the Bills offense with Fitzpatrick throwing him the ball.
Bills with lack of Weapons,So With TO said Double Covers Chad with said double covers Who does that leave on Caldwell or even Coles if we keep him around,Not Saying its the best fix but I'm with you Ron it's a Realistic Fix which would probably overall help our team...As for Drama Queen give me damn Ball Mind set well He would be coming here knowing we already have Chad...He's friends with Chad so I don't see it being that bad "shrug"
Owens is also at the point in his career where he'd like to win a championship. I think as long as we win games he'll be fine. I don't see how this can hurt us if they do it right.

I have to disagree with the Bengals just wanting a run blocking specialist. The signing of Utecht and drafting of Coffman tell me different, that they want a TE that is a part of the offense. The past two years that they have tried utilizing a TE in the offense, injuries have prevented this new philosophy from taking shape. I would love it if they drafted a top tier TE in the 1st or 2nd round...
To be perfectly honest, the Coffman pick doesn't make any sense whatsoever. They decided last offseason that they were going to be a run first team, and then drafted a pass-catching TE who can't block and couldn't get on the field because of that fact.
They need to see what, if anything, they have in Coffman before they use another high pick on a TE. I also don't understand why everyone is so eager to replace Foschi. I thought the guy was solid. He blocked well and caught the ball well. He's no Tony Gonzalez, but he's also no Dan Coats either.
-
I don't disagree but it's going to take more than adding a WR to fix this offense/passing game, and Owens likely makes that problem worse, not better, considering everything. He's so big now he's like Keyshawn Johnson in his waning years - slower, inconsistent hands, not of much use, needs to retire.

Chad is right on his heels to be honest, and doesn't have the size to function as an underneath guy.
Chad can still be a productive receiver. He's still got speed and quickness in and out of breaks. Not like he used to have, but he's still got it.
They need new interior lineman, a better RT, a better TE, a new o-coordinator and scheme, and a new o-line coach. They'll probably get a new WR and TE, and maybe a mid-round type guard, but it won't be nearly enough, just watch.
I think they'll get a new guard in the draft. Smith looked promising at RT last year and with a full offseason and training he should be ok there. I think Foschi is fine at TE but if they decide to upgrade that'd be great.
If the only thing they did this offseason was can Bratkowski I'd consider it a good offseason.

Even with the 3rd and 4th option on the roster playing the bulk of the snaps in 2009, the TE position had similar #'s as 2008.
Here is the final stats for 2008 and 2009 for the TE position.
2008 51-360-0
2009 43-410-2
2008 had more catches, but less yardage and no TD's, seems as if it doesnt matter the talent at the position, the OC will only give the TE so many targets in this Offense. There is no sense in wasting a 1st round pick on a rookie player that might see at most, 35-40 passes thrown his way. There is no impact to the team in drafting a TE in the first round. I would rather they pick up the BPA at the FS, OG, WR or CB positions.
Exactly. The TE is mostly utilized to block in Brat's system. If they had actually fired Brat (like they should) and brought in a coordinator who will utilize the TE then I would be on board with this. It really doesn't make any sense while Brat calls the plays, though.

With that being said really think we need upgrade our Passrush Need a Robert Mathis or Elvis Dumervill to pair with MJ
Hate to be a bubble burster....But Dumervil plays OLB in Denver's 3-4 Defense....At 5'11" 248 lbs, he is waaaay too small to play DE. He just doesn't have the size, and Long Arms needed to break free from the Offensive Tackles he would be lined up with at DE.
Exactly who's bubble did you burst? Dumervil plays OLB in a 3-4 defense. It IS offensive tackles that try to block him.
That said, since we run a 4-3, he wouldn't be a good fit here.
-
Also, if he's a 1A, he makes that play in Week 1 against Brandon Marshall at a clutch moment.
He did make that play, another receiver just happened to be in the vicinity to catch the deflection uncontested.
-
Yes, I think it's worth a try. Give him an LJ contract. If he starts trouble, he's gone. We have to do something to address the WR position and I don't see many alternatives out there.
-
Absolutely not. Kelly, Foschi, and Coffman will do fine. Or if they decide not to resign Kelly they can get a decent TE in FA. The TE is mainly a blocker in this offense and there's no need to use a 1st round pick on that.
-
I do agree that Trent can be used as a band aid if necessary when the starting db's are injured, but by no means does that make him a shut down corner.Let's say that the Bengals were pleasantly surprised by his play, that doesn't say a whole lot considering the fact he was drafted in the 6th round and may not have had any expectations of him. It will be interesting to see if/how Trent is used next season and if he is able to make the most of the opportunities that are given to him.
Secondly, I noticed that out of all the players I listed to cut, that Trent by far received the most support. Do you have any other players you think should be cut due to their lack of positive contributions to the team?
The only person I would cut is Coles and that's only if they get someone in FA to replace him. If not, hopefully a year's experience in the offense will make him a whole lot more productive next season.
Coats is a FA. They just need to NOT resign him.
-
T.O. is not what the Bengals need at that position.
Yeah. All those YAC would suck.
So would all those press conferences with TO and Fredo crying in unison at the media criticizing their quarterback. That would be precious.
Chad has never trashed Palmer. And that's why you give TO a one year contract so you can boot him if he starts trouble. Just the same thing we did with LJ. If he can keep his mouth shut through the season he just endured in Buffalo he can do it here with a competitive team.
-
According to the link I've posted below, Carson Palmer's 2009 Salary was 9.5 Million.....Not the $16 Million noted in the Topic....Check Facts first....
FYI, it also shows the entire Bengals Roster Salaries for 2009, and their Cap Hits.
/>http://www.sportscity.com/NFL/Cincinnati-Bengals-SalariesI'm sure his base salary was 9.5 million. But what was his cap number? He could've had another 7 million as part of a signing bonus that counts toward the cap, too.

When you put it like that it looks stupid, but there are many different circumstances.
Stallworth was driving drunk, and killed a man, but it was also determined that even had he been sober that there was no way he could've avoided hitting the man. The man was jay-walking in the dark.
Also, the family of the man didn't push the charges. They were content to take Stallworth's money instead of pushing for prison time.
In Odell's case, he was arrested multiple times before we was indefinitely suspended and, to my knowledge, has never applied for reinstatement. The indefinite suspension was because the legal process hadn't played out yet, I believe.
I'm not defending what happened, just pointing out some things.

Hey, I don't care. I didn't care when they wanted to sign Vick, I didn't care when they wanted to sign LJ. Why not add or try to add yet another misfit toy on this island?
Don't you think you're overreacting a little bit? Can you honestly guarantee that this team would be worse next year with TO than it was this year with Coles?
There were those here that thought the signing of LJ would ruin team chemistry. It didn't. So what's the harm in a one-year deal, where he knows up front that if he starts trouble he'll be cut? Especially knowing that most teams don't want his services.
I know I'd feel better going into next year with TO than Coles and Caldwell. Unless they have a chance to get some other FA WR that can contribute, I don't think this is a bad idea. The chances of getting a WR in the draft that can come in and play at a high level are minuscule.
I think it's worth a shot.

The problem with Mike Brown is he'll pay a QB or a RB a gold mine, but not anyone else.
I've said that now for God knows how long. And yes, Mike Brown is cheap AND lazy. Anyone who defends that man is an idiot, period.
And anyone making basely claims against him is stupid AND lazy. Willie Anderson, Levi Jones, Antwan Odom, Chad Johnson, Andre Smith, and L. Coles are all players that have gotten big contracts from Brown.
We all get that you hate Brown, but making things up to support your narrow point of view is classless.
-
He wasn't a problem in Buffalo last year. If he comes to the team with the understanding that this is a run first team I'd take him. If he starts getting out of line cut him. Give him a one year deal. He may still have gas in the tank and is most certainly more of a downfield threat than Coles and would command more attention from the defense to help free Chad up.
I wouldn't have a problem with it.
-
You're right, they can't find him guilty strictly on the basis that the girls were drunk. They'd need to investigate a little and see how they got that way. It may very well be that he wasn't responsible for providing the alcohol but how they got drunk is an interesting question to raise.
Indeed. Talking of accidents - just found out about Toyota's problem over there. Could be the death of them in the States now the media have started on them in earnest. Maybe they shouldn't have dragged their feet over the problem, could have saved themselves hundreds of millions of dollars. I'll stick with my Alfa thanks. The doors may fall off and the windscreen wipers have a tendency to squeak but I can start and stop well enough.
Yeah, Toyota's taking a major publicity hit over here.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as we got the Cleveland deal where we kept the colors, history and were guaranteed a team, I couldn't care less if SoP took his ball and left town. Give us new owners with a new philosophy and I don't think we could do much worse over a long term stretch, as long as the Lerners aren't involved.
As far as Hamilton County's problems are concerned. That county and the city of Cincinnati are two of the most messed up political communities I've ever seen. I don't live there, I don't shop there unless I absolutely have to and I can honestly see Cincinnati becoming the next Detroit in the next 5-10 years.
Cincinnati becoming the next Detroit is about as likely as the city getting a Cleveland Browns deal from the NFL...
Think so? Needing 30 million additional to operate as a county is a pretty good start. The Banks project has been a bust. There is no sustainable entertainment or night life in the city boundaries itself. It has a recent history of longtime retail tenents leaving in droves. It has a recent history of residents leaving in droves. It has a crime problem with which the local system and jail cannot keep up.
The only thing that can possibly throw it a life boat a this point is the casino but, frankly, I think the turnouts and revenues will be disappointing because, let's face it, Lawrenceburg isn't that far away and it's alot safer to go to at night.
Also, people who smoke are going to go to Indiana. The smoking ban has been horrible for bars up in Cincy but it's been great for the night clubs in Newport and Covington. My friends who live in Cincy always want to come down here when we hang out just so they can smoke.
That's funny because the people that I hang with don't smoke and they love the ban. Some of them hate going to Kentucky because of the smoking.
That's really, really great but it still doesn't change the fact that bars in the Cincy area have lost a of business because of the ban.

Oh? The aspiring writer doesn't like to read? How ironic.

Leon Hall ranked as 2nd best CB in NFL

Wrong. Keep them both. I'm in the camp that Hall is the better corner, but JJoe is good in his own right. Lest your forgot, the thing that allows Zimmer to do what he does is the play of both of our corners. They need to keep them both.
