The Oilers moved to Nashville. Unlike the NBA, the organization opted for a name change. Why the NBA has jazz in Utah, grizzles in Memphis, and lakes in Los Angeles is beyond me. Anyway, they changed the name to the Titans which not only alliterates with Tennessee, but there's also a full scale model of the Parthenon in Nashville. However, I prefer the name "Flaming Thumbtacks" originally bestowed by TMQ's Gregg Easterbrook because of the apperance of the Titans logo.

The Bengals are now 3 - 0 in games with a non-1:00 start time
The defense went seven consecutive quaters without allowing a TD
The defense has allowed only 13 points over the last two games
Tory James now leads the league with 6 ints
The defense is still leading the league in takeaways
After only nine games the Bengals have 24 takeways; this is the same number they had all last season
The Bengals have defeated three of the highest rated defensive teams: Washington, Denver, Miami
The Bengals were 8-17 on third down against the best third down defense
Carson passed for 200+ and Rudi rushed for 100+
Now, we just need to be consistent....

See, I knew Berman picking the Redskins was a good sign for us!
:player:

Actually, this is Chris Berman who we're talking about, so it could be a good sign. Doesn't he typically have a losing record with all those stupid Swami picks?

Having games during the week didn't dilute interest. The interest in the NBA is diluted because the season goes on for forever and the playoffs go on even longer. There are a lot of meaningless games played in the NBA, both in the regular season and especially in the playoffs.

Cincy's never had a defensive rookie of the year. However, we have had an offensive rookie of the year (and overall rookie of the year) in 1985 with Eddie Brown.

Apparently it's hard for Vegas to call as well. Last line I saw was 3 points, which is the standard for home field advantage. Even though the Bengals D has its share of problems, the most points Washington has put up in a single game is 18. I'm thinking there will a lot of FGs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some team take the gamble and choose him, but it'd be way down -- maybe 6th or 7th rounds? I sure wouldn't want him on my team, that's for sure.

My concern is their defense is ranked in the top 5.
We beat Miami and Denver, both of whom have really good* defenses. I think it's just a matter if the road jinx continues or not. Will it be Jekyll or Hyde?
* really good except for Denver's cheap cut blocking

But if the Bengals play .500 ball the rest of the year, they're 9-7 and who knows.
Um, if the Bengals play .500 the rest of the year, they'll be 7 - 9. They'll have to play .750 the rest of the way to reach 9 - 7.

So, what would the schedule at season's start look like? Would everyone be scheduled for Sunday and someone moved to Monday night or would there be someone scheduled for Monday night who might get bumped back to Sunday?

Bengals 23
Skins 18

Why are the teams limited to "alternate" uniforms twice per year? Just as long as you tell the visiting team what colors to bring, everything should be okay, right?

I like 'em. I wish they used a different font for the numbers, but other than that they look pretty good. Much better than some older Bengals unis...

And tonight my beloved Spurs are going to kick the crap out of L.A. It won't feel the same without Shaq there, but they're still the Lakers and they still need to be beaten into submission. I expect the final score to be something like:
San Antonio 101
Los Angeles 24
Kobe Bryant 53

I like the college game more, but after living in San Antonio for a while now, the pro game has grown on me. Also, since the Spurs are the only professional franchise in the city, the sports world of San Antonio revolves around the team. Everything else takes second place. When it's all said and done this season, I'll be out celebrating the team's 3rd championship!!

We're back at home...
Bengals - 30
Cowpokes - 26

Shayne's our kicker. I thought of putting his face in front of everything, but I sorta liked the idea of him sneaking up on you behind a pile of Graham crackers and then nailing a 53-yard field goal. Actually, it would look better if I had the face in front of the lettering.
I lOVE IT! Mind if I use that image elsewhere?Shayne will LOVE IT!
Go ahead. Spread the love. I may make a new version if I run across a good clean source image of the right size.

New and improved!

First there were "Frost Flakes" and now there are "Shayne Grahams!"
-
BTW, hello again all...I loved you too much to stay away
Can you feel the love in here?

I hope they "show up" as watching this game in the hostile confines of San Antonio could be rough. SA Bengal, where do you watch the games ??
San Antonio isn't that rough. I've been glad to see that there are some around who're now sporting Texans apparel. With that San Antonio is probably only about 98% Cowboys fans. But that's still not so rough. If I were to go around with a Shaq or Kobe jersey, then San Antonio would be rough! As for watching the game, I don't have a spot where I always go. I catch some games and others I don't.
Has anyone been following...

I will be the first to admit that I'm biased since I live right here in San Antonio, but... I really don't think that Dallas is the team to beat. Their achilles heel has been lack of defense and I don't see anything really changing that. Whatever the case, the Dallas/San Antonio/Houston games this year will be fun.
