  1. It also comes down to money and defensive linemen's salaries have outpaced the market recently. ;) It is more economical to go after speedy linebackers; they are more plentiful than dominating ends. Give me one big fattie to control the center of the line and everything else becomes easy.

As you might be able to tell, I prefer the 3-4. :player:

    How about a 2-5?

That's a very good point about the money. I prefer the 3-4 as well, but then the most coaching I've done is in a video game, so I'll defer to Marvin on this one.

  2. I ain't ever liked Tony Stewart....I just don't like those open wheel boys....I don't think he respects NASCAR enough (don't start me on Robby Gordon) and he does have issues...NASCAR can't stand for this...They will sit him down if it keeps up, he needs NASCAR a lot more then NASCAR needs him.

  3. Stewart strikes again,lmao!!!

He hit three, count em' three people in the first ten laps, and pretty much ruined Rusty's car before the Busch spin totated it.The interview with Rusty after the wreck was hilarious. He said that after Stewart hit him,Stewart flipped him off.Rusty was NOT happy with him, lol.

And why should Rusty be happy? Tony needs to have his balls kicked in, and believe me...Rusty is just the driver to do it! Go get that buttwipe Rusty!! B)

Well the best thing is the next race is at a short track, and Rusty would think twice about putting his ass in the wall at Richmond

  4. Ah, my other home track. I love Richmond, that's just top notch racing. My picks are Kenseth, and fellow Virginian Elliot Sadler....

Don't be shocked to see NASCAR sit Stewart down for a race if this keeps up, he's a maniac that doesn't deserve to be out there.

  5. does anyone know a good website that really breaks down the different defenses, and their advantages/weaknesses.  im talking 3-4 v. 4-3, nickel, dime, and all that good stuff.

As far as websites, I can't really help you there. My personal preference is the 4-3. I think that's the defense Coach Lewis is gonna run this year, and I'm happy about that. To run the 3-4, you need top notch pass rushers, and at this point the Bengals haven't developed those...YET!

I think the 4-3 is equally strong against the pass versus the rush whereas the 3-4 is basically a pass rush scheme. At the moment I think the Bengals are more situated towards the 4-3 than the 3-4.

The secret to the 3-4 is a big blocking nose tackle...but then like Billy said the 3-4 is best against the pass.

It comes down to having the best personel as to what defense you use. Coach Lewis has said on many occassions that he likes this teams matchups with a 4-3. If you want an example of a bad 3-4, look at Atlanta and how bad their Defense was last year, they made the very misguided move to the 3-4 and got the results to show(it wasn't the QB's fault they sucked so bad) Of course if we could get a NT to fit into the scheme then that would be good cause I think we now have the linebackers to run the 3-4. Of course, considering how badly we were against the run last year I think the team should move to a 4-4....I think our fast linebackers could compensate for losing a safety....

  6. Gamble has draft bust written all over him....We were in no postion to waste the pick on someone that won't contribute this year at all, and Gamble won't help the Panthers....Plus he get's to learn from Toast, so yeah, he's doomed....

Gamble is dumb as dirt, and to top it off doesn't know how to play corner. People drooled over his height, cause almost every other DB in the draft was under 6', but the simple fact of the matter is he was overated...If he had of been at a smaller school, or on inch or so shorter he would have been at best a 4th rounder. He does have an upside, but the risk is just so high that he'll be a bust it wasn't worth it and I was so relieved that the team didn't draft him.

  7. HAHAHAHAHA....Collins the quiter....Just what the Ravens need, a QB controversy...Boeller will start, he was a first rounder, but when he struggles, and he will, the fans will call for Collins or Wright, and when they struggle it's next person in line....Considering how divided that team was before Boeller went down it's only gonna make it worse. They don't need QB's, they need WR's and they don't have the first gamebreaking WR...If they thing K Johnson is gonna be that they are sadly mistaken.....I love it....

  8. Well, just noticed this on the web:

Kitna's contract extension signed early last week cuts his salary cap number by about $1.3 million.

Signed now through 2005, Kitna received a $2.375 signing bonus. He will be paid a $1 million base salary this season, and his cap number is $3.1875 million.

His 2005 base salary is $3 million, and he will earn a $1 million roster bonus if he is on the roster at the start of the NFL financial year that often begins with free agency in March.

That means the cap hit for Kitna leaving this year would be 2.3 million, so cutting him only frees up an additional 1 million (I say only like it's a small thing  ) But Kitna is as good as gone come March with a cap count of 5.2 million next year versus having about 1.2 million hit for cutting him....He might be cut and signed at a lesser value but I doubt it...I can see why the team is so worried about developing a cheap long term backup.

  9. [T.J. Houshmandzadeh WR (If I have to explain one more time why he was offered a contract I'll scream)

why was he offered a contract? (honestly)

Cause he was a RFA...Give him the tender and hope like hell he'll be signed by someone else and we get some kind of compensation. Otherwise bring him into training camp and if he's beaten out, so be it, no harm done cause he's not got a bonus that will count against the cap so it doesn't hurt the cap when he's cut, and the bulk of the money paid these guys during the offseason is next to nothing. Besides, competition is good for those last spots cause it will usually get the best ones to rise above the rest.

  10. Well Shoot, I TOLD ya that we SHOULD have Drafted a WEB DESIGNER with our top pick instead on a darn RB !

Well I'm happy to sign as an Undrafted Free Agent :D

I'd do it for season tickets and transportation to the games ;)

I've actually been tempted to design one and send it in cause it sucks, it sucks bad....The articles are good, and they keep the info fresh, but I think it could be so much more, but then I'm a wed developer, so I'd think that.

  11. Then that's why I pose this question...why all the extra QB's if Jon ain't got a bus ticket outa Cincy? Hell, we never even mentioned Shane Matthews! That's four freakin' backups behind Carson. What would any sane person think if you were in Kitna's place right now?

I'd be calling my realtor and putting my property on the market. Honey! Start packing!! Kids!?! Say goodbye to your friends...mommy and daddy are MOVING!!

    Matthews isn't a Bengal, and won't be a Bengal.

The reason the team has so many QB's fighting for one spot is the fact that the team is in an eviable postionto be able to develop a top flight long term backup and shape him into what they need, especially since they have Zampese as the QB coach, cause he may not be around but for so much longer cause he's moving up sooner rather than later...

  12. However, Kurt Kittner doesn't have great arm strength and accuracy when under pressure which may become a problem in your offense. I do believe that for his youth his leadership is unquestioned and Lewis wont allow the team to give up on him so, in that right, he's better off in his situation with us. Just don't expect for your aerial attack to have any flair (and I know CJ85 is great) when he's QB. Past 15 yards you better hope the ball touches the turf and not into the hands of DBs.

Well, even if he makes the team he would be damn lucky to ever touch the ball, cause he'd be at best the 3rd QB. But we don't need him to set the world on fire, we've got Palmer for that. Besides, a understrengthed passer put up pretty good numbers with this offense last year....but then Chad Johnson will make about any passer look good, and then give him yards to boot...I mean Kitna can't really throw deep, but CJ led the NFL with catches of more than 40 yards.

  13. Kitna is certainly here cutting him will actually make the cap situation worse.

How about a trade? Does that impact the cap negatively? I don't think so.

Actually trading counts the same as cutting someone cap wise(I think)

As for Cuts....damn it's way too early....But here goes nothing.

    Tony Williams at DT

    Kyle Richardson P

T.J. Houshmandzadeh WR (If I have to explain one more time why he was offered a contract I'll scream)

    Adrian Ross LB

    Marquand Manuel S

I'll also say I think there will be a fairly high profile cut, but I don't have a clue who it would be.

But things change, plus someone unexpectant could be cut if there are any surprise June 1 cuts on other teams.

  14. Kurt Kittner makes Akili Smith look like Warren Moon ! That's how bad he is. To be honest, he may even be worse than that!

That's harsh, and wrong....Let's be honest here, his problem was he was drafted by the Falcons, and Dan Reeves couldn't develop a QB if his life depended on it....Elway developed in spite of Reeves, and the best thing to happen to Vick was Reeves getting sacked. Kittner was put in a situation doomed to failure, he was drafted and ignored and then when the time came they threw him into the starting lineup, a lineup that had almost no talent in the passing game, and the team had no defense on top of it all, destined for failure...The Falcons are just lucky that Vick was injured and can blame their abysmal season on the injury, but the real culprit was a horrible offense...And just for the record to our newest member DD25, I am not trying to slight your team, only stating that they had piss poor coaching last year and made the dumbest switch of all time by moving to the 3-4 when they didn't have the players, but Vick is the bomb....but then he's a Hokie so I would say that.

  15. Well after hearing that the Bengals have picked up yet another QB...I say Kitna is outa here!! I hate the thought, but all the indicators point to it!

No way Billy, Kittner will be a good QB, but not at the moment...kitna stays this year, next year is a whole nother story though...But you never know, somebody could pony up the right draft pick.....but highly doubtful...But then most people thought we'd never get a 2nd for Dillon.

  16. That's a good pickup....Kittner was actually a Falcon. He played pretty bad last year after starting a few games for them...But the whole team did and I don't think it was his fault....I was hoping the Bengals would have drafted him a few years ago...I can't wait to see what Zampese can do with him....damn shame about that 7th round pick....But there's always 8 spots on the practice squad....But here's hoping they don't waste a spot on a QB...

  17. I'd say that Marvin and Co have built the defense with players based on the new rules...I mean it's gonna be hard for big DB's to jam recievers like Frazier likes, so they've moved to faster smaller DB's that will play the ball more, and that creates turnovers and I say the team will by near the top in creating turnovers this year....Speed Kills, and by george they have added speed to the defense at nearly ever position.

As for helping Palmer....Marvin has said he wants to go downfield more, so with some fast WR's, and we have those, I expect this offense to be potent :player:  :player:

  18. What he did is NOT a part of plate racing. It's part of being a hot headed A-hole who just basically wrecks people!! Nascar is reviewing his actions in last Sundays race, and I bet they fine him, or dock him points. The guy is getting flat dangerous, and he's gonna get someone killed or maimed. Why do you think his nickname is "Smoke"? He's a hot tempered jerk!

Dock him points, and sit him down for a race....It's funny, As soon as Joe Gibbs leaves, he's back to his old self....what an assmonkey

  19. why have the bengals always been the "laughing stock" and not the cardinals or the lions? thats gay!

The early part of the 90's the Lions made the playoffs a number of times and were competative, it's only been in the last few years(the Millen era) The Cardinals have always sucked, they've been exiled out to the desert but they did make the playoffs a few years ago...The Bengals probably get a lot of flack cause they had a higher profile during the 80's...you know, how the mighty have fallen and all that....but I haven't seen a lot of hate come the Bengals way until the the free agency parity thing come along....the whole concept of any team competing had seemed to pass the team by. Plus it didn't help when ESPN was picking the Bengals to make a playoff run and then they went to crap and 2-14...I think they got pissed cause it made them look stupid cause here was Letterman and Leno ripping the team they picked to make the playoffs....

  20. im not saying he deserves big bucks but at least 1 mill a season.

He's not that far off of that anyway....It's his own fault for not negotiating any incentives into his deal...

Of course the steelers did him dirty by promising him more money if he won the starting job and then him winning it....whammo....but what can you expect from the Steelers?

  21. He would be awsome to get....But at what price? The Dolphins are asking for a kings ransom for him. Maybe a second for him and a conditional 1st-2nd for 2006 cause we'll be picking 32nd then anyway :D

The problem is that Marvin is building for the future and to part with a high draft picks can really impede the teams progress....but damn it'd be nice. But it comes down to the Dolphins asking too much for him...
