Well once again we'll be heading into another draft with insufficient picks and poor drafting philosophy to help this team next year anyways...

Ok Immediate problems.

1. The Offensive line is the same as '06 and '07 ( virtually ) but the running game is -4 yards a carry again. And Palmer is on pace to be sacked 50 times this year!

- Michael Oher or Eugene Monroe look to be the Top offensive tackles and very worthy of top 10 picks, but Cincinnati won't admit that franchising Andrews, a player that doesn't want to play here in the first place, was a mistake. Drafting Anthony Collins was good, but he's a left tackle and lacks the girth to start immediately at right tackle next year.

What to Do and What will we do ?? - To fix this problem would be to sign Andrews to an extension for one year on top of this season and trade him during the offseason. Draft Oher or Monroe!

2. The Defensive Line should be improved next year. The coachs' loyalty to career underachievers like John Thornton have put this unit in disarray. There is good potential with Patrick Sims, Domata Peko as next season's starters with an impressive Jason Shirley in the rotation. But it's clear that Robert Geathers is NOT an elite defensive end, and Antwan Odom was overpaid. The Only way to get the pass rush out of our ends is from guys that can push the pocket, Peko can't do it, he's a first and 2nd down guy, but Sims has the talent to play all 3 downs and Shirley should demand the double teams to create matchups for the other 3. - Plain and Simple.... "In the Nfl, if you can't get a consistent pass rush with your front 4, you're probably NOT a playoff team!"

What to Do and What will we do ?? - To fix this problem, you need a pass rush monster at the top of the draft. Michael Johnson and George Selvie look to be the top 2 defensive ends, but how could Mike Brown and staff commit 50 million dollars to a guy that will be backing up 2 ends collectively paid 60 million ??

- The Bengals won't make the move here, but hopefully they'll consider taking a pass rush specialist on day one in '09!!

3. Running back will have to be addressed next year! Letting Rudi Johnson go was a mistake, as all Bengal fans are waiting for the inevitable Chris Perry injury. Perry is is his last year of his rookie contract, and even if he puts forth a 1000 yard season, how could Cincinnati justify a long term contract to a first round bust due to injuries. Kenny Watson will continue to be a backup, and DeDe Dorsey will continue to fight for a roster spot as a special teamer and semi-3rd down runningback.

What to Do and What will we do ?? - It is apparent that we are looking at a top 10 selection next year, making Chris "Beanie" Wells and Knowshon Moreno eerily tempting. Wells is a bruiser with little wiggle( kind of like Rudi Johnson ) , but Moreno has some Marshall Faulk ability and will most likely be taken first , IF, he declares for the draft. Moreno has my vote, but with the shakeup on the offensive line, and the desperate need to protect Palmer, we may miss him. I say we'll end up grabbing Spiller or Davis from Clemson in round 3.

4. Middle Linebacker can no longer be manned by Dhani Jones. The stupidity of O'Dell Thurman and cutting of project Ahmad Brooks severely hamstrung our linebacking corps. Add that to the loss of David Pollack, and Linebacker will remain a dire need despite the drafting of Rivers. The 2009 NFL Draft has 3 gems at middle linebacker. Ray Maualuga from USC, James "Animal Jr." Laurinaitis from Ohio State, and Brandon Spikes from Florida are gifted and rare. Usually the draft features outside backers, in '09 it will feature 3 future team captains all with the ability to be pro bowl caliber players. The Bengals MUST come away with one of them.

What to do and What will we do ?? - Ray Maualuga gets my nod. He's intimidating. He's extremely athletic, and he's adept at playing passing lanes ( like O'Dell was ). Teaming him with former USC teammate Keith Rivers would solidify the linebacking corps for a decade. The Question is, Do we Protect Palmer with an offensive lineman? Do we draft a Pass Rusher to give Zimmer the players he needs to turn this defense around? Do we draft our runningback of the future ? Or do we give our Defense it's new leader, Captain. Here's a trivia question for you .... When was the last time the Bengals had an Inside-linebacker go to the Pro Bowl ??

Like I said...

Not enough Picks!!

The 2009 NFL Draft will also be known as " The Year of the Center ". Rounds 2 and 3 will offer considerable talent to push "Gut-check" to the Second team.

Really good assessment! There lies the problem we are so bad that we could draft Oher, Selvie, ReyRey, and Knowshon and still be bad! J/K....It's tough to decide where to go b/c we have so many problems, say we draft Beanie, then our O-Line is horrible and can't create lanes...say we draft Oher and we don't have anyone runnin through the lanes created...A DE is a good Giants kind of idea but its not going to happen with how much money we are paying our starters and sure we have a great chance to draft a special MLB but as we've seen this year, what does it matter how good our D is if our O blows like this year. While I would love to have any of these studs especially Brandon Spikes since I am a Gators fan as well and he didn't play week 1 and still leads our team in tackles averaging something like 12 tackles a game and he already has like 4.5 sacks too! While I would like any of them my vote goes to Beanie or Knowshon and just let Perry walk....if we had Beanie or Knowshon running the rock and moving the chains helping Carson out and keeping our young talented already kind of good D we could be a playoff team with just a good RB, btw who's regretting taking Perry instead of Steven Jackson?

Not sure if you were here during our Live Chat room Draft of '2004. But The rest of the guys here know that I ripped the Bengals for passing on STEPHEN JACKSON. As a matter of fact, Watching the Bengals draft failures for years is why I stopped doing the Mocks for this forum. It was breaking my heart, ( AGAIN AND AGAIN ) To see players that I predicted to fall here and there, and be available for us to pick, but we pass them up to grab BUMS... 100 % USDA GRADE A BUMS!!

This is my first post since the disastrous 2008 NFL draft, when I wrote the word "CRAP' 55 times after our first pick. The rest of the picks were so poor, they weren't worth commenting on.

Without an NFL caliber GM and / or NFL Player Personnel MGR, there is no hope.....

Hey chrishcovga, I would just like your insight as to what do we do about the QB situation, I hear Carson is career threatening hurt and with a true leader and stud Tebow may come out, Stafford might come out...sure I would want to wait for Terrelle Pryor but that's 2 years down the road and it seems we may be in big trouble with Carson, and QB is the most important position and we may have a Top3 pick this year so why not, right?

I can't think of any disaster more terrible to Bengals fans than having a top 3 pick in the draft the year the collective bargaining agreement goes belly-up.

Mikey, Katie, and the rest of those idiots would set this team back another 10 years.

NO, I wouldn't draft a quarterback at the top of the draft next year unless it was absolutely necessary, like Palmer RE-tired or something like that. The rumors about his elbow at least for now appear to be squashed, and if Palmer did require surgery, Jake Delhomme just had a simliar procedure last season, and he's shown no ill-signs or complications from it. - I think it's safe to say that Palmer finishes out this season and is ready next season as well.

- As For Stafford. The kids got a rocket arm. Tebow, is another Florida system quarterback. He may in time turn out to be a Jeff Garcia mobile quarterback with mobility, leadership, and decent arm strength, but I hardly see Tebow as a top quarterback talent. He's just another "Great" college quarterback.

- Terrelle Pryor - great talent, but let's let him finish school and see how good he can develop before he we try to make him something he's not now!

Only reason people take a quarter back is if he's a mcnabb like clone :P simply so I can play cheesy on madden since we know no matter who we take aslong as mike brown is in the front office were screwed.

PS,See the sig though I'd say pick up as many picks as possible and take O/D line early and often after rey ^_^

Here's a BEAST that would be an immediate impact! But it won't happen because well, we don't like to draft beast's. <_< (TJ was an accident)

he looks like a Vernon Gholston clone to me KO, although im sure hed flourish within 3 years after hes drafted, but i see no immidiate impact from him.

We'll get a top 5. Unfortunately we'll go LB or RB I think, when we should really trade down for more picks and get a big fat jerk as a Centre - like that dude from Penn State (can't remember his name). Maybe an OT instead in the middle first round - few good looking prospects with different skills will be available next draft - quite a few decent options.

But yeah, we won't trade down and then with our high pick we'll probably go with the least necessary position and will have to cut Carson in order to make cap room for.

Might I ask this question. What difference does it makes who Cincinnati drafts next? Mike Brown will still be the owner, Marvin Lewis or another slacker HC will still run the team, and all you draft junkies will still be doing what you're doing now. Where does this cycle end?

I assure you it's not in the draft. <_<

Well, the sad part about it is, the whole draft talk thing is like a glimmer of hope. A glimmer that gets extinguished the day after the draft when you realize your team passes on proven talent and drafts a bunch of guys your owner has a "hunch" about...

twu...but its the coaches that can't coach these players, but yeah it is frustrating how we wait for the draft only to c our team pass on proven talent only to draft projects and unknown peeps...but i am a jerome simpson supporter, but it does hurt to c desean jackson go off, plus he's such a threat as a returner! but to all u limas sweed retards, i already forgot who drafted him, wasn't it the steelers, but that's how little he's done, but the steelers will prob. start him in two years
