Pasq on our Safety situation

While we're on the subject of the secondary, Pro Football Weekly's sources say JJ may or may not be ready for camp...

The Bengals received a scare in offseason workouts when CB Johnathan Joseph suffered a left foot injury. We’re told Joseph expects to be wearing a walking boot until the beginning of training camp on July 26, and his availability for the start of camp remains up in the air. Joseph, who defended 20 passes last season as a rookie, is expected to be a starter. Were Joseph to miss any time in camp, expect fourth-year CB Keiwan Ratliff to step into his spot. Ratliff, a second-round pick in 2004, has not lived up to expectations, and he has not been nearly the playmaker he was at the University of Florida. This is a pivotal season for him and a Bengals secondary that was tied for last in pass defense in 2006.

Knowing the situation, did anyone REALLY believe JJ would be ready by the start of camp ?? I wasn't sold on that one in the least. Anytime a Bengal player gets hurt (minus Carson) he seems to be screwed !!! Oh well, here's to hoping he's back and ready to go, but I hope they error on the side of caution !!!

The next question then becomes, who do you want to start IF JJoe isn't ready to go ?? Hall or Ratturd ??

WHODEY !!!

Read between the lines dude, we drafted 2 safeties, there's a reason for that!

You're so busy reading between the lines that you're missing what is on the lines. Just how many years does Dexter have left in the tank? Who was our #3 safety?

You are absolutely right, there is a reason we drafted two safeties. We lost one safety, in KK, and replaced him with White. Then in the late rounds, we saw another safety in Noogie who would do well on special teams, and provide camp fodder/practice squad/competition for other safeties on the roster.

So, instead of looking between the lines, look at what really happened.

Somewhere, Mike Brown is grinding his teeth, 'cause his "buddy" Rooney just made Troy Polamalu the league's highest-paid safety:

$6.6 million/year average, $15+m in guaranteed coin, $33 million overall.

Obviously, Madieu isn't in Polamalu's class, but the proverbial rising tide that lifts all boats...just rose. If Madieu has a good year, his price tag in FA could go over Mikey's budget.
