HoTbOy Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 I know Frasier like to blitz alot coming from Philly, but it seemed to me especially during Indy game that Frasier was on the sideline and not Bresnahan. If there were differences can someone point them out. I thought they were going to use the 3-4 look alot more, I rarely seen it... Quote
benny44 Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 I like Bresnahan a lot better. In his defense Williams was a big loss at FS this year. I think he would have helped a lot. I give him one more year. I bet it be improved. Pollack was just starting to come along and Thurman will only be better. All we need is a SS and a DT and we should be in pretty good shape. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Our D still sucked, but you saw improvement and you couldn't help but love all the turnovers they created this year, that was just plain fun to watch !!! I think our D is going to improve more and in time, will be even better, but then again, maybe we draft offense, ignoring the needs and then wonder why we finished at the bottom of all defensive categories again. Anyway, looking forward to FA and the draft !!! Oh yeah, I have no issues with Bres... YET.WHODEY !!! Quote
buck3y3d Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Yeah, our D got worse. Frasier wasn't bad, at least we were mediocre. The argument that Bresnehan had to deal with injuries is crap because Frasier didn't even have personel like Pollack or Thurman, and Madieu played hurt most of the year. The D will be better next year because of improved personel, but the play calling will still be suspect, and unless we get a corner opposite Delta, we'll have a big problem again in the vertical passing game. cincy9275 Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 our defense got worst than better . this d is undisciplined they miss way to many tackles, the veteran players recognition skills sucks . no pass rush no run d . we have way to much talent on d to be this bad. i do think they will improve because most if them are young and experience is going to help a lot. our coordinators and assistant coaches are not getting the job done. a lot of people think brat and bresh are good coaches . i don't like what i have seen and i believe this is a big weakness for our team i do think Marvin needs to look at what they are doing and see if they are putting our guys in the best position to win games. sometimes i wonder if they are? andybren Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 We went younger this year. That'll lead to a small step backward in some cases. Not unlike Carson's first half-season as a starter. But the dividends will come. Quote
Spain Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 The difference is huge, Frasier showed no progress. I was wondering if he was trying to help another minority coach he thought was on the rise. It just didnt work out that way. Bresh seems to have the boys in the right direction. Frasiers D never imroved. Case in point is that we lead the leauge in turnovers. Frasier led the leauge in nothing. Marvin wants someone to surigate the D for him. Bresh is just that guy. He is shutting the hell up. Quote

He is shutting the hell up.Far too often, when Fraiser called for a blitz, the defense came up with a big nothing, and gave up a big play. It also encouraged too much freelancing, and undisciplined rushes, all of which is the death knell for a solid, disciplined, "Do your job" defense that Marvin preaches. Chuck got Marvin's appreciation and respect with the 2000 AFC Championship game, where neither team scored an offensive touchdown. Quote
schweinhart Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Either way, it boils down to personnel. Scheme helps offset what the personnel lack as long as the players more or less fit the base defense, but sooner or later, weaknesses are exposed and exploited. Next year, the Bengals have to generate better pass rush and better backfield penetration -- some how, some way -- or else expect some of the same crap that characterized the 2nd half of the year. It shouldn't be quite so bad with Madieu back on patrol in the secondary next year and the rookie backers with a year under their belts, but it still doesn't look like the D will be anything better than middle of the pack. Maybe a free agent here and a draft pick there improves the front four enough to have a real impact. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Bresh D-Horrible, Horrendus, Sucky, flat out bad, too riskyFraiz- Too Risky, Bad, Decent but not good. Quote
Spain Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Well Im going to put this one to rest. Marvin took over play calling for Frasier , he has never done that to bresh, Quote

Marvin took over play calling for Frasier , he has never done that to bresh,Yeah, and we allowed 40 something points to the Brownies. Think Spain, maybe you could find a better example. When the turnovers stopped coming, see non-NFC North opponents, we stopped being a mediocre defense. Bres can scheme for the run or the pass, but not both. We are never going to win the Big One like this. Quote
walzav29 Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 I think it all has to do with the DT's. Having no Dt's effects everything. It makes the linebackers have to do what they are not supposed to, it makes the secondary cover longer, it hurts the DE's ability to get pressure on the qb. We need dominant tackles. Quote
