BengalSIS
Hopefully Larson will get it back together... because you're right, he has potential... but the NFL stands for Not For Long. We can't give him another year of "practice" when we're trying to get a superbowl. We also can't have a merry go round of punters when we MAY have just endured the growing pains of a new young punter and may be able to reap the rewards of a guy who may find his groove. We were all hoping that Akili would find his groove. Who knows... if we had let him start for 3 or 4 years, he may have improved well enough... but we decided to go another route... and thank God we did. You're right that a merry go round of punters isn't ideal... but it's also not the same as having a merry go round of QB's. We need someone who can be consistent. Maybe Marvin will give him one more year... but the fact that we're looking at this other guy indicates that he too has grown weary of the inconsistency. I really am rooting for Larson to keep his job... because the potential is there... but we can't keep a bunch of guys on the roster because we hopet hat some day they'll reach that potential. At some point they are no longer underacheiving, and that's just the best they can do.

I don't expect unending patience, or a free ride to get the job next year. I just don't want to see us give up before preseason and let him go without the opportunity to compete.
