Monday was the last Bengalsline Show for the year. Here are a few of the more interesting comments from that show:

As I mentioned on another thread, Andy Furman made a reference to Chad being Superman and Anthony Mitchell mumbled something about "TJ is Superman." Neither Andy or Dave Lapham picked up on it. I thought it was a very revealing comment about how the guys might feel about Chad in the locker room. This was before the incident had become public knowledge.

Dave was adamant that the Bengals are too quick to abandon the run. He said that since Brat was LeBeau's OC while he was head coach and Brat was WR coach at Pittsburgh before coming here, they knew he would throw with the lead. So Pittsburgh was dropping as many as 9 guys into coverage. They also know that Kitna could not outthrow their coverage. They doubled Chad and TJ and without Henry, that left Schoebel and Walter in single coverage. After the botched FG and Pittsburgh scored, they came out and rather than run and give the defense a rest, they continued to throw. He said that we did not adjust to their adjustments.

Dave said that having Madieu Williams back will be like getting another first round pick next year, since he is a big upgrade over the others.

Ken Zampese was asked if he had been contacted about a job elsewhere and he laughed and said no. HE also said that he hopes Kitna will stay here. He has been a big help to Zampese, since he has seen just about everything in the league and he has helped Carson immensely.

Zamp also mentioned that the strategy was to outthrow the Steelers secondary, which obviously worked on that first pass.

Dave mentioned that he thought that Kimo was purposely trying to hit Carson in the knee but without the intent to severely injure him like he did. (I am not sure what the difference there is). He also said that by rule a penalty flag should be thrown there since any hit below the waist in a QB is a penalty.

He questioned why they could call the penalty before the Steelers TD in the endzone and not throw it on the long pass to TJ on the series before that.

After watching the game again, he said that Odell Thurman was "picked" by the tight end on the TD play by Willie Parker and that a penalty should have been called there also. Thurman was shadowing him as he went in motion and then was shielded by the TE and that is why the play seemed so wide open.

Dave said that an upgrade to the D Tackle position is essential in the draft.

Yeah Superman never has had 1000 yard season while being single covered most

of the game...every game.

But I guess when you`ve only had 111 tackles in a 6 year career ANYONE

looks like Superman to you !

Mitchell isn`t a Bengal anymore is he ?

Unless he got cut since Monday night, Mitchell is still a Bengal.

As far as the Superman comment, I take that as a compliment to TJ's toughness not his talent being greater that Chad's. TJ takes his share of hits while Chad seems to dive down or duck out of bounds alot before getting tackled.

These guys are together everyday and sometimes the public's perception is alot different than reality.

For whatever it might be worth, I was recently watching the recap of Wild-Card action on Playbook.(NFL Network) During the film review of the Bengal/Steeler game they highlighted the 2nd Quarter 5-yard TD pass thrown to Hines Ward, calling it an obvious pick play that could have drawn a flag.
