TWO TO WONDER ABOUT

Cincinnati Bengals

The first pass of minicamp has yet to be thrown and Jon Kitna already has a backseat to Carson Palmer's NFL indoctrination. In trying to quell a QB controversy -- something the Bengals' neighbors to the north aren't very good at -- coach Marvin Lewis is taking a pretty big risk.

The adjustment to Palmer also has fantasy owners of Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson and Peter Warrick shaking in their boots. Really, why ruin a good thing? Kitna threw for 26 TD passes last season and had only 15 interceptions. Chad Johnson developed into an elite receiver, and Rudi Johnson's play made Corey Dillon's whining irrelevant. But Kitna probably doesn't have the talent to take Cincinnati to the next level, and Lewis is willing to risk taking a step backward for it to pay off in the long run.

It is another of those darn scenarios where real-world logic gets in the way of fantasy success.

Baltimore Ravens

Unless you've been spelunking with Osama, you've heard that Jamal Lewis is, ahem, having some legal trouble. No doubt it will be an ongoing saga to watch this summer because the Ravens' immediate future teeters on the outcome.

Baltimore has the cap space to keep an offensive line that blocked for Lewis in his 2,000-yard season intact. The Ravens already have signed center Mike Flynn, and right tackle Orlando Brown could be next. Baltimore also has made an early commitment by going with QB Kyle Boller over Anthony Wright, and Chris Redman's days with the team appear over.

The defense is a given, but what's interesting is that the Lewis outcome could determine whether the team makes a run at players like Terrell Owens to seriously improve the offense.

Ravens acquire WR Owens from 49ers

NFL.com wire reports

BALTIMORE (March 4, 2004) -- Four-time Pro Bowl receiver Terrell Owens was traded to the Baltimore Ravens by San Francisco after a paperwork error prevented him from becoming a free agent.

Owens, who quarreled with coaches, teammates and opponents during the last few seasons, was given permission by the 49ers to seek a deal after his agent failed to file a document voiding the final years of his contract.

He gives Baltimore, which surrendered a second-round draft pick, the top receiver it has been lacking for years, even in 2000, when the Ravens won the Super Bowl.
