duus
It was ridiculous of me to think Ben was better than Carson Palmer in any area of the game. Carson has mastered the QB position from A-Z. What was I thinking... Carson is Gods gift to football and Ben isn't even worthy to shine his shoes. All Hail Carson Palmer. Ah yes...the frustrated-so-i-will-lash-out-hyperbole. I will accept your apology.Easy now! ... don't go using words like 'hyperbole'. I can see it now ... Hyper Bowl? What is that? (calls up several fellow Stiller fans ... all afraid that they missed something since 1979 when it was still called the Super Bowl)
TIMEsteelersfan
I'm not frustrated at all. I'm having a great time on this board because I don't take anything on this site personally... and I enjoy debating with other fans. I'm never going to change your minds about anything and vice versa(however you spell that). This is fun and enjoyable to me, and as a result I never have to stoop to insulting somebody to make a point. Get a grip bro.
smith288
Now let's not go overboard. I wouldn't say he isn't worthy to shine Carson's shoes. But I guess you're coming around. There is hope. He's worthy? Poppycock... Maybe Ben can carry Carson's socks to the laundry bin after practices...but that might be overboard as well. You are bound to get a little pushing and shoving on a Bengals board so no reason to think its really personal... you have to admit, my post was slightly humorous... cmon, admit it. TIMEsteelersfan
Carson is the $118 mm man lol ben is the $18mm man for a reason. There is a reason... Pittsburgh is used to having top talent and knows how to avoid putting to many eggs in one basket. Kudos to Palmer though... That's a monster deal. Ever seen Tom Brady's deal? Higher paid doesn't always mean better.
Stickman
On the note of him praising Carson... It's brilliant... never toot your own horn, that leads to bad things. Just another example of the class Steeler players have.Brilliant indeed, but not because Big Ben doesn't toot his own horn, he's really good at that. However, he is brilliant because he realizes Carson Palmer is twice the QB he is. Lets face it, do you really think Ben doesn't know that if he doesn't throw the ball, it won't change the Squeelers game at all?OK... you've set a new standard with this one. Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Yeah he never makes key throws or puts us into position to score or wins games for us. Completely moronic.Ben threw the ball all of 268 times the entire freaking season. In half the games he played, he threw the ball 20 times or fewer. Palmer on the other hand had at least 20 receptions in all but 3 of his games.Ben's job is to give the ball to any fat slob behind him, doesn't matter who it is, and get out of the way. After doing that a while, he uses play action. MY GRANDMOTHER could do that. This thread is on the verge of needing moved to the SMACK forum. Let it die people. Let's talk football. I'm quite tired of all this..."my dad can beat up your dad" crap.

HairOnFire
Kudos to Palmer though... That's a monster deal. Ever seen Tom Brady's deal? Higher paid doesn't always mean better. Well, now that you mention it Tom Brady is also a better QB than Ben. If Bengal fans are guilty of underestimating Ben it's just as true that most Steeler fans are guilty of overestimating his play to date. Myself, I find it hard to criticize his play very much because he's proven very capable of doing everything he's been asked to do. Props. That said, I think it's fair to state that he'll never be considered one of the elite QB's in the NFL until he's asked to do more, and along those lines...he has to perform better in the rare shootouts the Steelers find themselves in. Fair enough?

Fair enough? That's definitely fair to me... He's probably not as good as I think he is, but he's not as bad as Bengals fans think he is. Somewhere in the middle perhaps. That being said I would still take him over many, many current starting QB'sOh... and Brady is definitely better than Ben. He carried that team on his shoulders all year and still put up huge numbers and got them to the playoffs.
jjakq27
I think some of it is that most of us consider him a local guy since he went to Miami. And because of that, some folks feel like he somehow spurned the Bengals by going to the Steelers. It sounds goofy but some folks don't understand that he didn't have a choice. Also, last year Marvin paid Ben a big compliment when he was asked his opinion about him. He stated that had he been available in 2003, that the Bengals would have had a tough choice to make between Ben and Carson. That's pretty solid. HairOnFire
He's probably not as good as I think he is, but he's not as bad as Bengals fans think he is. Somewhere in the middle perhaps. Well, he might be as good as you think he is. The rub is that he hasn't proven it yet. As for Carson Palmer, he's hardly perfect, but he's asked to do far more than Ben, and has managed to impress as few others have. It seems to me like Ben was acknowledging that. Switching gears, I'm suddenly reminded that ex-Brownstained Head Coach Chris Palmer once responded to fan and media criticism about not letting Tim Couch air it out despite some very respectable stats up to that point. Palmer mentioned that Couch was still on schedule, but admitted that he had thrown interceptions by the bunch everytime he had tried "stepping on the gas." Less than one week after making the remark Palmer was fired....by some accounts due to Couch's belief that Palmer was holding him back. eclipse99t
Guys, too much bickering, I think...Look, we all know Carson is already one of the top 3 QBs in the league with Brady and Manning. Carson does exactly what we need him to do in order for us to win games; so far, its been working.Along those same lines, Ben does exactly what the Steelers need him to do in order for them to win games. Even before Ben was a Steeler, they already had a great rushing attack, and they already had a great defense. Ben is not REQUIRED to throw 25-30 times a game...but he can still be a great quarterback throwing it 15 times a game, which is what he's doing. I personally hate him, becuase I think he's too cocky generally, but I also think he's a great quarterback, and the Steelers could not have asked for anything else. Both can win games, both can lead their teams down the field; one has a great defense, and a great running attack, while the other has a very mediocre defense and a solid but not flashy rushing game. Carson is required to do more; he does just that. I highly doubt the Steelers would win if they asked Ben to throw 30 times a game; 2 TDs, 250 yards. There's a reason they lose when he does that...it takes them completely out of their gameplan. Likewise, I doubt the Bengals would win a lot of games if they only made Carson throw it 15 times, and rushed Rudi and Chris P 30 times a game. We're comparing apples and oranges here...Damn, after all that civil talk, I just gotta get this in here...Carson is better.
