Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Patriots have signed free agent cornerback Artrell Hawkins.

The 28-year-old Hawkins is in his eighth season and has played in 103 games with 76 starts. He has career numbers of 404 tackles, three sacks, and 10 interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 1998 draft, he spent his first six seasons there before being signed by the Carolina Panthers as a free agent before the 2004 season. He was signed by the Washington Redskins before the 2005 season, but was released prior to the start of regular season play.

In addition to Hawkins, the Patriots signed offensive lineman Gene Mruczkowski. He was originally signed by the Patriots in 2003 and played in 10 games for the Super Bowl champs during the 2004 season as backup center and on special teams. He was released by the Patriots this season on September 3, but was re-signed on September 28. He was then released for the second time on October 8.

In other roster news, the Patriots placed defensive back Randall Gay and center Dan Koppen on injured reserve

Hope it works out better for him than it did in WASH. Hope HE doesn't get hurt this week. ;)

Next thing you know, the PATS will be getting the cell phone numbers of Louis Breeden and Eric Thomas...

In more important news, denverbengal is using a sig quote from one of the funniest shows of all time, "WKRP In Cincinnati." It's up there with "Perfect Strangers" and "Taxi" in my book.

After reading an article about Chad, I had to change it. I think WKRP was the funniest show ever made. Not just cuz I'm a Cincinnati homer either. That's one show I can watch over and over again and still laugh hysterically.
