smith288
I emailed the program director and he replied to me saying that the Browns had 60% more viewers than the Bengals Sunday... here is my reply...What kind of rating metrics are you going with? The apples and oranges scale? The games were on at different times and on different channels. Who was playing on CBS when the Bengals were playing? What was on Fox when the Browns were playing?1pmBengals vs Vikings FOX Steelers vs Texans CBS 4pmWNBA ABC"That's Funny" FOXBrowns vs Packers CBSThe Bengals had to split viewer ship with the Steeler game (huge Ohio following) yet you are comparing the numbers the Bengals got in ratings with the ratings the Browns got in their game against the Packers with ZERO competition. No offense but who is compiling your data analysis? This should be a no brainer if you compute the viewer ship the Steeler's game got and add it into the Bengals game because the large majority would have tuned into the Bengals game if it was an outer regional contest. This is a no brainer without even knowing the WNBA ratings which are most likely similiar to the Public Access Channel's ratings...Add to this equation is next week, the Bengals play at Chicago and the Browns play at Indianapolis so the chances of a Columbus resident seeing the Browns game live is more of a possibility than a Columbus resident driving to Chicago. A beleaguered Bengals fan pleads for your re-evaluation of the game for next week.Thankswrite viewerservices@10tv.com and make your roar heard. rizzy
They always do that stupid stuff in Columbus. I have tried and they will not change it.Another thing they need to take into consideration is the browns game was away Sunday while the Bengals game was at home. Which means a lot of people in the columbus market went to the bengals game.10tv is stupid. I hate them.It is metro bar time this sunday. derekshank
Fair points, but the fact is not going to change that the Columbus area has a 4/1 Browns to Bengals fan ratio. I have a lot of friends from Columbus, and all we can agree to talk about is the Buckeyes.
rizzy
I did send an email to the station not complaining that the game will not be shown, but their reasoning behind it is stupid. This is what I sent them:I understand that you show the game for the team that has more viewers, but the statement you make on the website shows complete lack of intelligence. "Last week's Browns/Packers game had over 60% more viewers than the Bengal's/Vikings." I did not realize that in Columbus 1pm and 4pm are actually the same time. I always thought that the 4pm hour occurred 3 hours after 1pm. Oh! wait a minute it does. Comparing two games that are both on at 1pm or 4pm I understand, but not two different time slots. Lets see here:1pmBengals vs. Vikings FOX Steelers vs. Texans CBS 4pmWNBA ABC"That's Funny" FOXBrowns vs. Packers CBS The Browns game is the only NFL game on at 4pm, so of course it is going to get more viewers than the Bengal's when it doesn't have another NFL game competing with it. The Browns played their game away at Green Bay. The Bengal's were at home against the Vikings. Browns fans in Columbus had no choice but to watch the game on TV because it was an away game. Columbus Bengal's fans had the option of watching it on TV or going to see the game in person since it is a home game. I am not complaining the Bengal's are not on local TV because I will just go to a bar and watch it. The Browns had 60% more viewers than the Bengal's statement is ludicrous. Please come up with something more intelligent when stating why a game will not be shown.Once the Browns have no chance at having a good season or making the playoffs they will start showing the Bengals over the Browns each week. I wish they were 0-2 right now instead of 1-1 because that would help the cause out a lot more.
derekshank
Firstly, I think it is funny that you guys think that by mocking the intelligence of the program director, he will be inclined to listen to you... "you draw more flies with honey than vinegar"Secondly... I live in Indiana, so we get all the Bears games... so this will be the only time I get to say this all season... "Ha Ha" (Nelson Muntz) I am ok with mocking their intelligence. If the game is not on then it is to the bar no big deal.If they decided to drop all bengals coverage, which they won't, but if they did Direct TV would have a new subscriber. My parents live an hour from cincy and an hour from columbus, so they get the columbus and cincy cbs feed. That would be the best if columbus could recieve the cincy feed also then there would be no worries.
smith288
I see you were mature and didn't fall on the "But the Browns ^&*^ing suck!" argument.I have dealt with this program director before and he usually gives a reasonable reason for their decisions but this time I was baffled. It was like he thought I dont have access to simple information to formulate an opinion based on the facts presented.Of course I will probably get nowhere with the email but I think I said what I needed to say in a manor that is both effective and adult.Needless to say, it sounds like they could use more than a Sunday evening to decide things such as this.Good Lord did they even peek at the reasons behind the 60% difference? Its like they all threw logic out the window and donned the white trash dawg masks.
rizzy
This is what I got back as a response to my email above.First, if you would like to ask a question or discuss an issue, please do so without statements like “…complete lack of intelligence.” It’s rude and uncalled for. I won’t question your intelligence, I would appreciate the same consideration. This is one week in a multi-week tracking. We will be showing the Bengals on 10/2 independent of any competition from the Browns or the Steelers. We’ll evaluate how many viewers they are able to garner and use this information to help us make our recommendations. Thank you for writing 10TV Viewer Services.Frank WillsonDirector of OperationsWBNS-10TVHe did not address anything I said in the email. rizzy
I emailed back about not answering my question. Thanks for the note back... Its certainly not an exact science and we’ll look at a series of key weeks to evaluate as the season goes along. As I pointed out to another viewer, even when you add the two ratings from the 1:00pm games, it is still very close to the single Browns game. That’s assuming that everyone watching the Steelers game would have come over to the Bengals game. The week of 10/2 will be key. We’ll see where they stand there. Thanks again for writing back. Frank WillsonWBNS-10TVSo the key week is going to be the texans game. Once again it is another home game and it is against the texans not a higher quality team like the packers. Looks like the browns will be played over the browns the whole year.
bengalbutch
I wrote to Mr Wilosn as soon as the game was over yesterday and was told the bad news ( showing the Brown's). I get two CBS station's and neither are showing the Bengals. I know this sounds stupid and most don't get this station. But, would you please email bcary@wvmh.com and ask them to televise the Bengals and Bears. It's usally a Steelers channel in WV but since they play at 4pm, they could show the Bengals. They are showing the Jets vs Jag's. Please, if only 10 or 15 people would email, it may help my cause.
