San Antonio Saints?

Recommended Posts

I like the San Antonio Chupacabras myself.

Is this some kind of Mexican space alien or what?

From the Wikipedia entry, The Chupacabra or chupacabras is a legendary creature which inhabits parts of the Americas, associated particularly with Mexico. The name, which translates literally from Spanish as "goat-sucker", comes from its habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock. Physical descriptions of the creature vary. Sightings began in Puerto Rico in the early 1990s, and have since been reported as far north as the Carolinas and as far south as Bolivia.

In July of 2004, a rancher near San Antonio, Texas, killed a hairless, dog-like creature (the Elmendorf Creature) that was attacking his livestock. It was later determined to be a coyote with mange. In October of 2004, two animals which closely resemble the Elmendorf creature were observed in the same area. The first was dead, and the second was noticed by a local zoologist who was called to identify the animal while she was travelling to the location where the first was found. Specimens were studied by biologists in Texas; the creatures are thought to have been canines with skin problems and facial deformities.

That incident started the whole San Antonio Chupacabra thing down here. And then Art Bell got a hold of it...

I saw on SportsCenter that the Saints have said it would be their preference to play all of their home games in San Antonio. They went on to say that the NFL was hesitant to sign off on it because they felt the Saint would try to make it into a permanent move rather than a temporary one. The plot thickens.

On an aside ......... how long do you think it would really be before the Saints could ever play in New Orleans again ?? They're figuring 8 months or longer for the town to be habitable again. Add another 6 months to that ... because a football stadium won't be on the top of the priority list. 3 ? 4 ? months to demolish the SuperDome ........ and about a year to 18 months to rebuild the new one.

Now that's right around 3 years from now. That may not be permanent ... but it ain't all that dam temporary either.

We're hearing confirmed reports San Antonio will get some of the Saints games this season!! :D :D

The NFL, the Saints are going to talk with LSU early next week and then we'll know how many of the games we'll have here. The team really wants to have as many games in San Antonio as they can get -- the fewer "road" games, the better. But I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to finish out the season back in Baton Rouge. Anyway, now it's just a question of how many games we'll get. B)

The Cowboys, first and foremost, but the Texans are getting some roots planted here. Those who were Oilers fans back in the day are gradually shifting to the Texans. I'd say that we get a little more Cowboys coverage in the media, but it's not by much over the Texans. The only time people here are interested in the Saints is when 1.) they're playing the Cowboys, 2.) they're playing the Texans or 3.) when yet another rumor comes up about the Saints moving here.

Darn S.A U got a new team to root for, but thats o.k its a NFC team.........GO SAINTS... :player:

I'll be rooting for the Saints (I never thought in all my days I would say that) given the situation, but no team will ever come close to replacing my Bengals. :player:

And ya know what... next season the Bengals play at the Saints! If San Antonio could somehow host that game.... ^_^

San Antonio will three of the Saints games: Buffalo, Atlanta and Detroit.

The New Orleans Saints will play three regular season games in San Antonio's Alamodome this fall, 1200 WOAI news reported this afternoon.

NFL sources said the Saints will play the October 2nd game against Buffalo, the October 16th game against Atlanta, and the Christmas Eve contest against the Detroit Lions in the 65,000 seat facility. It will be the first NFL regular season games ever played in football-hungry San Antonio.

The Super Dome, where the Saints play their home games, has been damaged by Hurricane Katrina, and will not be usable for this NFL season.

It's still unclear where the remainder of the Saints 2005 home games will be played, although owner Tom Benson has indicated he would like to play as many games as possible in the state of Louisiana, and Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge has been mentioned as a possible location. The Saints have announced that their September 19th home game against the New York Giants will be played at the New Jersey Meadowlands, the Giants home field.

NFL officials plan a news conference later this afternoon to discuss this development.

Alamodome Director Mike Abington said he expects a full house for all three games.

"This would be the first time a regular season game has been played in San Antonio," Abington said. "I think that means a lot."

He said he expects the Saints to be able to draw fans from Austin, across south Texas, and even in northern Mexico.

"The dome's ready," Abington said. "Mr. Benson has been there, he's refreshed his view of the dome. We're ready to go.

San Antonio has hosted five minor and alternative league professional football franchises, and a number of pre season and exhibition games, but these will be the first regular season games in the Alamo City, which has been trying to attract an NFL franchise for decades.
