We eat the rest of the signing bonuses when we cut people. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 They same ignorance is bliss, so you must be very blissful if you think that we can sign Corey Simon by cutting Brian Simmons AND John Thornton. First of all, we'd gain nothing towards the cap by cutting Thornton. Secondly, Brian Simmons is the leader of the linebackers, the only one with more than one season's experience. He is also a SOLID linebacker who may very well lead the team in tackles this season. Now, go put your head back in the sand. Quote
Spain Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Way to many rookie Lbs there! Just sign Simon let Warrik go! Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Way to many rookie Lbs there! Just sign Simon let Warrik go! Don't you think if Simon would come here for what Warrick is making, the Bengals would have signed him already? Quote

I think we should go with the players we have, in other words don't get Simon, but we also need Landon in the mix somewhere. Pollack hopefully will be a terror, but Landon has been way too solid to be put on the sideline. I see people talking about Landon at the SS spot. Is he fast enough to cover the slot receivers when needed? If so, maybe he could be the next Fulcher. Quote

kingwilly Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 He is not fast enough to play SS and pick up WR's in the zones. Heck, Herring and KK aren't either. The only way we'd get away with something like that was if Tory or Deltha were complete shut-down CB's, whch they are not.Odell is faster than landon and he is always playing catch-up, remember the Patten TD vs Wash?Cory Simon is a pipedream. Besides the Cap hit from the required release of other quality players and the burden of a contract Simon would actually sign, Simon's health has always been a BIG "?"Let's go to war with the D we have (plus a new free agent S) and then draft a NT and go 3-4 next year. Pollack - Landon - Odell - SimmonsGeathers - Drafted NT - Smith Quote
BlackJesus Posted August 29, 2005 Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 Then Again who needs a dominant Pro Bowl DT that gives you 9 sacks a year and causes havoc for offenses....When you have this Beast back at Saftey....... Quote
redsfan2 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Then Again who needs a dominant Pro Bowl DT that gives you 9 sacks a year and causes havoc for offenses....When you have this Beast back at Saftey....... I have to admit that this is one of the very few times I laughed at the site of one of the Bengals taking a dirt siesta. I'm one who doubts Simons' impact on the team should he end up here .... which I just don't see happening. A lot of the guys were ticked when we didn't get Sapp last year ( again not me ) and we all saw what he did for Oaklands defense. ESPN did say on their report that " the Bengals are in the thick of this thing " in reference to where Simons might land. I think if we talk to him at all, he'll tell the Ravens " well, this is what I could get in Cincinnati. " . Followed by the usual outcome. He'll go to the Ravens ... and have about as much impact as Deion did last year. Quote
