HairOnFire Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 <shrug> I actually agree with Hair insofar as both sides apppear to have nothing but diminishing incentives to consummate the deal. I think we agree on most points, but if pressed I'd say our greatest difference is that I'm far more supportive of the Bengals resolve to fight HARD for realistic incentive triggers. You're more of a slot guy. That said, I think it's clear that you an I should never be in the same room when the loyalty clause is being discussed. Quote
rizzy Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 bengals.comTom Condon, one of David Pollack’s agents, said he had discussions and exchanged faxes with Bengals vice president Katie Blackburn Monday, and expected to talk to her again Monday night. But he couldn’t say if a deal was close and he didn’t want to get into specifics. Condon declined comment on Lewis’ statements in a morning news conference in which Lewis said, “I didn’t think he would hold out this long. I think we have fought very hard to eliminate some of these kinds of actions, and it is a shame that it has occurred. We have guys who have chosen to be here, which has eliminated selfishness that occurs.” There have been indications that the money is there, but that Pollack’s people don’t like a lot of the contract language the Bengals consider standard issue. Apparently, one of Lewis’ brain childs, the 100-percent off-season attendance clause is at issue because it is at the club’s discretion with the penalty taking part of the bonus. Apparently, Pollack also wants a written guarantee that he’ll get his option bonus if the Bengals cut him after his rookie year. The Bengals, trying to stay away from setting the precedent of guaranteed money, argue it’s obvious they won’t cut him after his rookie year. As ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen said Monday night, “Silly stuff.” . . ....had discussions and exchanged faxes...... Come on now as long as this has been going on now they should be meeting face to face to finish this thing not sending faxes back and forth. Quote
