cincy90
Those of you who say that Justin Smith is overrated don't really, REALLY watch the games closely. Being a former defensive end myself, I watch him for most of the time the defense is on the field. For years he has been the only Bengal d-lineman worth blocking, so he is doubled on virtually every play. He's slightly light as far as weight goes, but makes up for it with his strength. But it doesn't help when you have to face the likes of Jonathon Ogden every week. Every team puts their best pass blocker at left tackle. And when Justin does beat his man to the inside, the guard helps out. When he beats him to the outside, a back helps out. He has taken all the attention, and someone else should be freed up. You can't argue about his overall defense, he's lead the d-line in tackles since he's been here. Leading the team in tackles in sacks is pretty good in my book. He's been one of the hardest workers on and off the field. The only fault Marvin has expressed with him is that he needs to calm down. That's what I like to hear. I seem to remember an interview where Marvin called him one of the best defensive ends in the NFL. Him and Pollack (when he signs) are my favorite players on the team. In fact, I can think of only one point to disagree with. Marvin mentioned once how much Smith might improve if he had better film room habits, and I doubt it was a coincidence that Smith remarked about how much he learned from Kevin Greene in regards to film study and alignment. Damn, I'd love to see Greene accept a full time coaching position with this team.
