Messenger Guard Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Just a fan and not a coach or evaluator but I made my yearly trip to training camp today, and here is what I think I saw.Carson can really throw the ball (duh) and looked good running on a bootleg on the goal line. Our first team nickel looked good in 7 vs. 7; Landon and Brian looked like a quick tall pair in the middle. Larson put some very nice punts inside the five. Kicking from the 50 or 40 most punts were inside the 10 and not one was in the endzone on the fly. Several hit inside the 5 and just died. I was asking how'd he do that? What a difference when St. Louis is snapping than when the backup was snapping. How does that little guy hold up to the rush in the middle? First team offense beat the first team defense on the goal line, but not by much. Hard to tell when they aren't tackling. Schobel broke free for a nice catch in the corner. Clemons, Smith, Robinson, Moore, Thorton and Geathers looked like a good line down there. Second team offense killed the second team defense on the goal line. With some live play at the end first team D stopped the first team O. But Andrews handled Justin nicely on the passing plays. Looks greatly improved over this time last year. Justin slid inside for a killer stop on a run but it looked like Andrews pulled to the inside on a move block so I do not know who Justin really beat. Second team O once again ate up the second team D in the live play at the end. Perry had a real nice burst outside for about 40 yards. Wilkins seemed to get a lot of reps, switching between first and second team D. Receivers were doing this tapdancing drill around cones down the sideline. Incredibly quick feet on some of those guys. I saw very few dropped balls the entire session. In a drill Tab Perry made a really nice break and catch on a perfectly thrown sideline ball wih incredibly tight coverage by Myles, crowd applause on that drill play for great work all around. If you get a chance take a trip to training camp. It is like a ten ring circus with so much going on in all parts of the field. Man after starving for half a lifetime I can taste 10-6 this year. Quote

Marvin singled him out during that long interview with Hobson recently but gave no details about why he had stood out as one of the most improved players. I think you may have solved the mystery.
