walzav29 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 This is a little jumping the gun, since Pollack isn't signed yet. Has anyone read or seen any implications that the Bengals could use a couple of 3-4 looks> There already seems to be a debate about Thurman, Pollack, and Johnson. You know Simmons will be in there. I wonder if all 4 will ever get on the field? Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Marvin Lewis has already said the 4-3 will be the base Defense used this year. Will we see the 4-3 used at some point in time this season ?? Yes, but it won't be our base. Don't get me wrong, I can envision Simmons, LJ, Odell, and Pollack on the field at the same time and it makes me warm all over, but the line has to be able to make it happen in front of them. I'm not sure we have the answer to that problem at this time.WHODEY !!! Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 We don't have a nose tackle to go to a 3-4 defense. Quote
TippCityRick Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 For the fourtieth time on the fourtieth postNO, NO, A THOUSAND TIMES NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!There, I've got that off my chest. Quote
Steve4192 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Bresnahan is already on record as saying the team will show some 3-4 looks this season, but I suspect we'll see it less than 10% of the time. I expect it will most often be run out of the nickle/dime package with Pollack moving around between LB and DE. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Yeah, we'll play 3-4 when we are in prevent..... We have noone who can play nose tackle, so 3-4 just ain't gonna happen. Quote
Kirkendall Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Yeah, we'll play 3-4 when we are in prevent..... We have noone who can play nose tackle, so 3-4 just ain't gonna happen. 3-4 for prevent? That doesn't make sense to have 4 linebackers over a nickle or dime defense. Quote
AMC Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 I don't know if Pollack rushes on 3rd down, if that's considered a 3-4 defense. Does it matter what it's called? Pollack gives the defense alot of versatility...I can't wait til Big Ben or anybody else for that matter is looking at 3rd and long with Justin Smith, Clemons, Geathers and Pollack all on the field... Quote
Kazkal Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 + justin and geathers aren't really 3-4 DE's (which are more or less a 4-3 tackle) Quote

Kirkendall Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 But no one is suggesting we go to 3-4 as a base defense, just looks. It would be no different than the times we used it last season -- except chucky b. said, as he also reiterated the resumption of the base 4-3, that the 3-4 would be used a little more. And it's not like our 4-3 front was steller anyway. Anyway, I agree. We don't have the personnel for the a base 3-4. But next year......... hum...Comments Joisey? Quote
Kazkal Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 I perfer we never go to 3-4 defense and I'm glad marvin plans to stick with it then joining the rest of the copycat league Quote
