Fantasy Keepers

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm in another fantasy league, and we play for money, and I need to decide between keepers, because I'm in a tough spot.

This is who I'm choosing from, and I have to choose 5:

Jake Delhomme

Shaun Alexander

Corey Dillon

Duce Staley

Ricky Williams

Hines Ward

Steve Smith

Antonio Gates

Since we're playing with 2 QBs, I'm gonna keep Jake cuz I need him, and Steve Smith because I have that connection, and then obviously Alexander, but who else should I keep?

If you guys could help me out...that would be great. (Preferrably those who know what they're talking about, or just any advice would help)

Thanks guys.

Dillon & Gates - It's alot easier to grab a top or 2nd tier WR (Hines) then a very good RB or one of the top two TEs. The others don't merit consideration.

Of these, keeping 5, I would say:

1. Shaun Alexander - He's signed his deal and he's in a contract year, again. Nuff said. Only an idiot would put him on the market.

2. Corey Dillon - I hate the man, but he will get his yards and his touchdowns in NE.

3. Jake Delhomme (Qbs in a league starting 2 QBs will be tough to find)

4. Steve Smith - He will be back from injury and is a top middle tier receiver.

5. Antonio Gates - He hasn't signed his contract, but he'll be there for game day.

Ricky Williams is too big a question mark as far as being in shape, where he will fall on the depth chart, if he will get suspended for getting stoned and kicked out of the league, etc. You can probably draft him anyway since his value is low.

Hines Ward isn't the scoring threat that Smith is.

Duce Staley can be picked up in the draft, and is no better than some of the rookies out there.

I would keep Dillon and Alexander. It's much tougher to find quality running backs than receivers.

Ward isnt happy, Williams is missing a 1/4 of the season and might not start at all, and Duce splits carries.

The one thing you might want to consider is trading Smith for another receiver in his range. With a few exceptions, I hate to have a QB/WR tandem from the same team. It kills you when they have bad games and stresses your roster during their bye week.

You might want to consider keeping Gates instead. With an entire year of McCardell and Caldwell, Gates could have an even bigger year in SD this year.

i'd keep gates and delhomme. with carolina signing rod gardner, they have a pretty good trio of recievers and a solid o-line.

I'd say of the players left take Dillon and Ward. Dillon is a lock to put up solid numbers, and Ward will probably see more passes (along with more double-coverage) now that Burress is in New York.

Thanks everyone. I traded my 2nd and 4th round picks away for Alexander, Ward, and Gates, and I had Smith from last year, though he was a big disappointment. I was just thinking that I could keep Ward and drop Smith because Smith could be picked up later or I could get Gardner as a 3 or 4 receiver and still have the combination.

Good point about Ward being the big threat as far as receivers in Pittsburgh, though I will hate to root for him.
