walzav29
I get the whole "outperforming" conrtract theory, but how much did Jevon and Chad pay back from the stellar 1st year performances?Chad - 28 catches 329 yardsJevon - 23 catches 319 yards, year2 41 catches 716 yards.I hear these guys saying how great they are now, but they were making out like bandits when they were sucky rookies. It works both ways. Screw them both if they hold out. Who cares about receivers anyway. 6 guys last year with 90 or more catches, and only 1, Tory Holt went to the playoffs. They are not worth the distraction if it comes up.
CantStop85
It's just one of those things..."Who cares about wide receivers anyway?" Ask a QB that question and see what kind of response you get. If you don't have good receivers, you won't be able to win a lot of games. Quarterbacks are only as good as their offensive line and wide receivers. If you think we could get rid of Chad Johnson at this point and still have a chance at the playoffs then you are sadly mistaken. walzav29
Tell that to the Bill Parcells. Quick, name those All-Star receiver's on those Giant Super Bowl teams, or the 85 Bears, or the Ravens of 2000. Sure it's nice, but come winter time, give me D and a running game. CantStop85
There are always exceptions...but even the patriots need a good receiving corps to help tom brady out. Deion Branch, Givens, Patten, Troy Brown...they all were good receivers. You have to have a killer defense and run game in order to win the superbowl without a passing game. Brownflushitdown
The running game and o-line is way more important than great wideouts. That said without good wid receivers it makes it harder to run the ball so all and all neither of you have a very good argument.

Hey now, da 85 Bears may have scored a lot of their points on defense, but it certainly wasn't the skill of their punky QB that got them the rings, it was the Sweetness of their running game, the defense, and the creativity of the coaching staff. But the wide outs on that team were nothing to shake a stick at. Willie Gault could outrun just about any wideout in the league right now. That man was FAST.... He averaged over 21 yards per catch. (CJ averaged just 13.4 yards per catch last year). Dennis McKinnon had 7 touchdown catches, and 555 yards. Payton himself had almost 500 yards. The key to the passing offense of da 85 Bears was that there were 4 500+ yard receivers, including the halfback, and 7 receivers who had double digit receptions. They had just 500 yards less passing than we had last year. PS: Walter Payton's stats in the 85 Super Bowl year were 324 attempts, 1551 yards, 4.8 per carry and 9 tds. Rudi Johnsons stats last year? 361 attempts, 1454 yards, 4.0 per carry, and 12 touchdowns. Not that far from one another.... So, tell me again how horrible and average Rudi is? Quick, name the star RB on the Bucs super bowl team, or on the pats super bowl teams before dillon. Or the star defense on the Rams super bowl team. There are exceptions to everything. There is no single way to win a super bowl. It just takes a good team, good coaching staff, and some luck. And to any who think we could lose CJ and be fine, you are kidding yourself. PS: Watch for the Bears to improve a lot this year if Grossman doesn't get hurt again.
