Why Not Sabathia

The Cleveland newspaper reported the Indians were rebuffed again on their trade offer for Joe Randa. It was reported the Indians offered C.C. Sabathia. Why would Obrien turn this down. He must not think we need a #1 STARTER.

Sounds fishy. I'm not sure about the Cleveland newspaper.

First of all, my question to Cleveland is why would the Indians try to trade someone they just signed a two-year, $17.75 million extension only two months ago?

Second question for Cleveland newspaper, how in the hell is Joe Randa an equal trade to Sabathia? Randa is up there in age, and Sabathia is 25-ish. There's no way the Indians would even entertain that idea, and if O'Brien approached Cleveland with that deal, then I have to question O'Brien.

Sabathia is happy in Cleveland and the Indians have always shown a knack for keeping their core players -- hence extension deal.

It's mute really, the Reds would never pick up a pitcher that's actually good anyway.:lol:

I have read that the Indians are trying to get Dunn in the deal also. So it's not so far fetched.

O'Brien is scared to make any deals.

The Reds have the Twins and the Padres willing to give up top prospects for Randa right now.

O'Brien needs to go.

Don't know about you, but if the Cincinnati Reds ask the Indians again for lefty starter C.C. Sabathia in exchange for Reds slugger Adam Dunn (as they reportedly did not long ago), the Indians should take the offer a little more seriously. Sure, Sabathia's potential is a great thing. But when is it going to allow Sabathia to consistently stop team losing streaks? Or out-pitch an opposing team's No. 1 or No. 2 starter? Too often, Sabathia fails to do either.

There is also an article in the Akron Beacon Journal talking about the Indians interest for Joe Randa

From USA Today

The Reds are trying to act coy, but instead they're coming across as a mass act of confusion. They eventually will shop outfielders Austin Kearns and Adam Dunn, first baseman Sean Casey, third baseman Joe Randa and starter Eric Milton.

There are at least four teams interested in Dunn, including the Astros, Dodgers, Indians and Nationals, but they are wary about his salary rising from $4.6 million to about $7 million in salary arbitration. Kearns will attract considerable interest once he's on the market. But the guy who may draw the most attention could be Randa. The Twins and Padres both want him and are willing to offer top prospects. Ken Griffey Jr., who has no-trade rights, says that it's highly unlikely that he would approve any deal.
