BlackJesus
I want you to rank the 5 most important people to the 2005 Bengals having success.... they can be coaches, management, players, scouts, groundskeepers etc.... you can just list them, or you can also explain why they are .... rank them also 1 being most important... etc______________________________________________Mine#1 - Marvin Lewis aka "Black Jesus"Without a doubt the Bengals will go where Marvin takes them. He is not only the coach, but I would also give him the title of head scout, general manager, team capologits, and to a degree this year Def coordinator. More than any other coach in the league I think Marvin has more influence on his teams success. He is also probably the most loved coach behind Belicheck by his hometown team. Even the good coaches have detractors usually.... but I would bet Marvin would have a 99.9 approval rating from WhoDey Nation which is very rare in any sport. Marvin has sculpted a playoff team and resurrected an entire franchise from the depths of comedic absurdity. I firmly believe that if he was abducted by aliens tomorrow (after hearing the news I would commit suicide) that the team would probably fall into disarray... he is the glue that holds the personalities in check and allows Chads to blossom. In an era where other teams have holdouts and disgruntled players.... name me one guy on Cincy that has gotten in trouble this off season or caused a stink? exactly.... he is the Best coach in all of the NFL hands down. You don't have to be gay to be a man and love Marvin Lewis....#2 - Carson PalmerHe is our franchise QB, and we will go as far as he takes us. When the lightbulb turned on last year, he became an accurate, mobile, rocket launcher with a Qb rating scratching 100. He showed he could come back on the so called mighty Raven D, and proved that even a 21 point deficit is not safe with a quarter left and him on the field. He will have a top 3 WR trio in the league, and a franchise leading RB but he still makes it all happen. He never gets raddled, and his poise will only grow with every victory this year. I look for him to play lights out, go to a pro bowl, exceed 4,500 yds passing, and takes us deep into January. If heaven forbid he was to get hurt, don't expect more than 9-7.#3 - Chuck BresnahanLeslie Frazier and Marvin were on opposite sides of the philosophical fence and the poor D showed. Frazier was a blitz happy, soft spoken, play your DB's in bump and run, and always bring a LB around the edge...usually the slow stiff Hardy. Marvin has shown that he is a rush 4, cover 2, get in players faces, play conservative kind of Def mind. in Baltimore, he only liked to rush 4, and drop 7, and usually likes his DB's off the line so they don't get burned deep. Bresnahan I think fits this mold. What we will see if 4 men rushing and 7 dropping but sometimes you will have Pollack rushing from ROLB and Geathers dropping in coverage etc. This will present a lot of matchup problems, and the possibility of going to a 2-5 on 3rd down like the patriots is also there... where you have 5 Lb's on the field and 2 of them along with JT and Robinson rush off the edge or from the same side.... you get the idea. Once this D goes top 10 this year, look for Bresnahan to get some looks for a head coaching job although I think we have him for at least the next 2 years. Bresnahan is like a Marvin Jr... and if he is half the man we are set.#4 Rudi Johnson He is the workhorse, the between the tackle dependable clydesdale that you can ride for 40 + carries if you have to. Deceptivley fast he also has the ability to pull away, why you stare at the tree trunk thighs wondering where the speed is coming from. He should be in Honolulu again and look for him to carry late in games when the bengals are holding the lead. With Perry pulling a Kijana he might be the go to guy by himself once again and if so don't worry he can handle it... and now will be getting paid for handling it as well. If Rudi went down.... I am scared for our chances... next to Palmer he is the most vital player to the teams success#5 Chad JohnsonSome of his charades are important because they give swagger to a team that for a decade had it's tail between its legs. His cockiness and confidence rubs off on others and he is a needed Yang to Carson and Rudis conservative and shyer Yin. He is a top 3 WR in the game and might be the best deep ball guy in the league. In the 4th quarter with the game on the line you always are on the edge of your seat and he gives the team the ability to believe that they are a legitimate contender. He also is psychologically important, because I think players observe and read his body language, and when Chad is clicking that means the team is rollin. Look for him to scratch the 100 yd mark on most weeks and be the league leader by over 200 yds rec.
joshh967
1) Marvn Lewis is definatly number 1. If it wasnt for him then this whole recovery would have never happened.2) Carson Palmer, You cant have a football team win without a good quarterback. Its nice not to not have to worry about your QB.3) Rudi Johnson is a freakin beast. I was worried about his reliability after we lost dillon. But he has done everything and beyond what he needs to do.4) Chad Johnson, ahh the other Johnson. Makes spectacular catches in situations we need him for. Gives the team the extra jump start we need.5) Willie Anderson, just all around good player that has stuck with it through the thick and the thin. This man is exactly the type of veteran we need for the team.
Kirkendall
1. Mike Brown. If it wasn't for his hire of Marvin, we go no where. Plus he's completely behind the scenes now and the perceptions of the Brown family has quietly, and positively, changed for the better. He manned up, changed his ways, and pushes forth on the path towards greatness. I think it's time for Fans and the Brown family to come to terms and support each other towards future championships.2. Marvin Lewis.3. Carson Palmer.4. Jon Kitna -- keeping the stability and mentoring Carson is an often times overlooked aspect towards Palmer's character development. I guess in a sense, we're damned lucky to have a guy like Kitna on this team and his influence, on everyone, is only positive. 5. The Fans. WE ROCK! bengalboomer7
Marvin - MIkey just likes the view up thereCarson - YOu only go as far as the General on the field takes youDavid Pollack - Has an awful lot of pressure on him already to save us, I just hope he's the Rookie of the year prospect that Len Pasqo says he isChukie B - Can i get at least two shut outsChris Perry - I like the original nickname someone gave him, but I hope he doesn't live up to the two carry Perry persona
The_Next_Big_Thing
1. Marvin Lewis - As stated, he is the grease that keeps this wheel moving, the leader, the attitude, and the teacher. Everything that happens on and off the field is his domain within this team.2. Mike Brown - Without him, there is no David Pollack. Without him, there is no Odell Thurman. Without him, there is no Chris Henry. Without him, there is no Rich Braham. Besides, for every loss, there will be someone blaming him. so he should get some credit.3. Carson Palmer - On the field, he's in charge. If he doesn't perform, TJ and CJ are useless. They can't throw the ball to themselves. Rudi can't run unless Carson hands him the ball. If he continues to grow into the QB we believe he can be, he can change the face of this team from Chad's golden smile to his boyish charm.4. Paul Alexander - He MUST coach up a center this season if we are going anywhere for the future. He must make Ghiaciuc able to take over for Braham next year. He must make sure that should Ghiaciuc be unable to perform, Wilkerson is ready to step in. If we are forced to depend on Larry Moore, we are in trouble. At the same time, he must continue to make progress with Stacy Andrews and the other young guys like Kieft so that if we are unable to sign all of the offensive linemen who are up for free agency in 2006 we aren't looking at a huge hole in the line protecting golden boy Palmer.5. Duke Tobin - Hey, all season he will be scouting for next season and reporting to Marvin Lewis and Mike Brown. It is with his eyes, ears, staff and study that we get draft picks like Madieu Williams, Odell Thurman, Robert Geathers, etc. He is the little engine that zooms up and down the tracks making sure it's clean to make sure the train keeps moving year after year.Honorable Mentions we too often forget:Paul Sparling - There will be injuries, there are always injuries. May he find it easier to keep up with all of them this season than last.Rob Recker - This poor guy had to find a font that would fit Houshmanzadeh on the back of a uniform. I'm still hoping that another guy with that name and the first name Tony appears on our roster to see how he handles it! If the equipment isn't right, we can't play.Steve Wolf - This is the guy who makes sure all your gear is at the Pro Shop and makes sure you have a place to buy your jerseys, your Who Dey shirts, your hats, and your Ben-Gals calendars!Traci Napier, Deanna Patterson, and Tara Wilson - These three ladies are the captains of the Ben-Gals. Without them, there is no eye candy dancing along the sidelines to pump up the volume and bring the fans to their feet!
redsfan2
#1 Coach Lewis No explanation needed#2 Carson Palmer .. let's hope he doesn't fall down as much as in the QB Challenge. Being 20 lbs lighter threw off his balance I guess #3 Big Willie ... it all starts in the trenches #4 Rudi Johnson / Chris Perry That's cheating I know, but RJ needs to keep up his pace as the workhorse, and Perry needs to play to his potential .. for the whole season.#5 TJ needs to have another monster year to prove that last year wasn't a fluke ( year before that everyone was looking to dump him ) and to keep the double teams off of CJ.Didn't put CJ on the list because He's not as great as he thinks he is at handling double coverage, so he needs #5.Bresnahan and defense didn't make it because all they have to do is be respectable with the offense they have to work with. But that's just me .
Irish Bengal
#1 The Fans - without us there is no one to cheer for this soon to be great team.#2 Marvin Lewis - He turned this team from malcontents to professionals with a purpose and winning attitude.#3 Chad Johnson - Chad help to put the Bengals back in the spotlite with his great personality and ability to back it up.#4 Carson Palmer - We finally did it right.#5 Defense - If there improvement continues they will help the Bengals to the playoffs

The Big Orange
My thoughts exactly, Spain...I think almost anybody else, though painful, could be replaced, and even though I'm not a big Brat fan and would rather have Zampese, myself, for now Brat is one of the most valuable and we couldn't replace him on short notice with this team this year. The_Next_Big_Thing
1. Katie she is clearly in charge. I hate to break it to you, but she is not in charge. She is the public face of the front office because Mike Brown needed a fresh face several years ago in order to avoid a hit man taking him out. She's a VP, that is all. The_Next_Big_Thing
she will run the team though once he steps down, btw she was really pushing marvin, mike wanted coughlin Mike wanted EITHER Tom Coughlin or Marvin Lewis. Katie did help him make the decision. All this "it's Katie's team" is a bit premature. Also, once he steps down, she MAY run the team. It is more likely that by that time, Paul Brown will take over. DontPushMe
1. Mike Brown - for reasons listed above.2. Carson Palmer - if he starts out crappy again this year our playoff chances are gone.3. Chris Perry - We need a steady running game, hopefully he can give us that.4. Thurman/pollack/simmons - someone needs to stop the run this year, ML said the problem was at the LB level5. Chad/TJ - Just need to keep up what theyve been doing.

HairOnFire
Pushy, with that I have to raise your ranks to "Button-pusher extraordinaire" Sorry, that title is far too long. Besides, Fugtard is far more appropriate and takes less time to type. Pushy = Fugtard

Defender
The five most important people to the 2005 Bengals are (in order):1.) Beer Guy2.) Beer Guy3.) Beer Guy4.) Beer Guy5.) Beer GuyI keep seeing Marvin, Mike Brown, Carson, CJ, Rudi, etc... But I ask you this: Have any of these guys ONCE brought a bin full of beer and poured you one at a game? All I'm saying is give credit where credit is due...

Bryan Robinson doesn't bring anybody beer and in this division, defensive tackles have to be able to stop the run, pressure the quarterback, AND pour a good beer.
