Reds rebuilding plan

Step 1, Obtain Phillip Hughes and Christian Garcia from Yankees for Ken Griffey or Eric Milton and whatever else necessary to get deal done I'll say Griffey and Weathers for arguments sake. I haven't really check to see if Garcia is still in Yanks system but he'd be a good throw in guy if he is.

Step 2 Obtain Erick Aybar and Steven Shell from Angels for Milton or Casey and whatever necessary to get deal done. I'll say Casey, Mercker and BJ Symanski (outfield is already set)

Step 3 Obtain Chuck Tiffany from Dodgers Maybe a Milton and Arullila type deal if Tiffany is still in Dodgers orginization still.

Step 4 Trade remaining older players for speed/average players or high velolcity/strikeout pitchers.

Step 5 Use #1 pick in draft to take a dominating pitcher or position player

Step 6 Use some 40 million in purged roster saving in free agent market. Due whatever neccessary to sign Johnny Damon. Look for solid middle reliever like LaTroy Hawkins. Should be at least 25 of the 40 million saved from roster purge that should be used in next years free agency.

Step 8 start to show signs of respectability next year as the team nears 500 baseball while younger playes like Aybar, Hughes, Tiffany, Encarcion, and others mature on big league team.

Step 9 go into following seasons free agent market and sign a bonafide #1 starter for pitching staff. C.C. Sabathia (hopefully) 5 years 100 million. That puts you probably 10 million over this year payroll with a far more dominant team within 2 years.

Step 10. Head into 2007 playoff season with following lineup 1. CF Johnny Damon 2. 2nd Erick Aybar 3. LF Austin Kearns 4. 1b Adam Dunn 5. RF Wily Mo Pena 6. SS Felipe Lopez 7. Edwin Encarcion (or maybe Freel if Ed can't cut it) 8. Jason Larue

Pitching Rotation C.C. Sabathia, Philip Hughes, Aaron Harang, Brandon Claussen, Chuck Tiffany/Homer Bailey or whomever else. Lots of good young pitching prospects should be stocked so the rotation shouldn't be hard to fill.

Bullpen, Coffey, Behlisle, Wagner, Hawkins, Paulley and Co.

Actually in reality with salary raises to current players it would probably be more like 20 million of their current salary, but that's a hell of a team that could compete year in and out. Plus the Reds, besides scamming us for money, scam other teams in MLB with the "salary cap" thing they got going on, so they can afford it.

So basically they trade all these guys now to restock the minors. Then use all the saved money to sign players like Johnny Damon and C.C. Sabathia. Makes perfect sense to me, I don't understand why everyone seems to think it's really a difficult thing to do.....I said it last year though...and I'm sure I'll be saying it again next year....and the next year.... and the next year....and the next year....and the next year...and th....
