CantStop85
I must admit...it seems like if they put Pollack at either LDE or RDE and moved Landon Johnson to the other OLB spot, then the defense would improve. However, I think Robert Geathers is going to be a really good DE and Justin Smith has always been solid, so replacing one of them wouldn't necessarily be the greatest idea. The move of Pollack from DE to LB will no doubt help in the 3-4 looks, though.
Kazkal
Because they wanted to add to the run defense,we have 2 DE's that are just fine so it would have been kinda stupid to spend a first round pick on another one.
Defender
What are the odds that Pollack would play DE fulltime in the event J. Smith or Geathers go down for the season?

Kazkal
I don't think it will be much of a problem Jason Taylor is 6'6 255 pounds and is a awesome DE so as long as pollack has his speed he'll be ok IMO.
vman1186
Moving him to OLB was the right move. For one he was too small to DE in the NFL even before he lost 20 pounds. Plus, now he can create match up problems and become a unique "edge blitzer" even when we play 4-3 (and he'll be monsterous in the 3-4). Plus Smith and Geathers are solid at DE. I'm impressed at how quickly the kid lost 20 lbs (a testament to his outstanding dedication), but it remains to be seen how fast he'll develop the instincts to play LB (I heard that Bellicheck would have made him a MLB!).Finally, I do expect him to play DE in the crunch, like if a guy goes down or in a few defensive plays. Still, don't look for him to play DE too much at all this year.

Aye,I'm sure they'll play him as a DE every now but they also plan on dropping justin back to coverage every now and then too

bengalsLB
pollack may have short arms but he could hit the tackles in the joint that connects the forearm abd bicep a poof! the tackles arms are off

walshfan
Pollack is going to play at 245lbs this season.. I think he's right there now.good size for a LB ...I llike the move...fiery and intense are attributes a LB should have since they're around the ball so much... BengalPappaw
Gosh - you folks remind me of my wife -- always looking for something to worry about. IMO Pollack has shown the ability to beat tackles -- and put pressure on the QB -- YES it was in college. But, I like his attitude, work ethic and athletic ability -- coupled with Marvin's experience converting DEs to OLBs. So, If you need something to worry about -- worry about getting tickets to the Bengal games when the they start winning and all those other worriers decide its time to jump on the bandwagon OR if the Adkins diet would help Big Orange's avatar. OR the Killians brewery gets stuck by lightning. I hope the season gets here SOON!! :player:

backerman
he'd get swallowed up on the line with those stubby arms. OT's are known for long arms.Pollack vs Marcus McNeill /shudder MArcus was one of the more effective guys vs Pollack. But I don't think he would have been nearly as effective if left 1 vs 1 for the majority of the game.see, IIRC, what Auburn kept doing was sending Ronnie Brown out to Pollacks side to chip on him if he ever went outside for a speed rush. If Pollack went inside Ronnie would release into the flats. If Pollack came outside he would chip him and knock David back into MArcus' massive frame and then go out into the flat. Marcus pretty much knew that he had help to the outside so he didn't even have to worry about the speed rush, he could just hunker down and use his mass agianst Pollack, playing for the bull rush or an inside move. It would be like facing a pitcher that you knew could throw nothing but change ups, because anytime he throws a fastball the umps calling it a ball. Pollack was drafted because Marvin knows he has three talented defensive ends and needed someone to improve our run defense and pass from from the OLB position. Pollack was just what Marvin Lewis was looking for at OLB, and it's time to quit asking stupid ass questions and except the decisions of one of the best coaches every to come to Cincinnati. OFF the subject -- the Dayton Daily News on Sunday had a big article on Pat Deuel (aka Big Orange's avatar)Almost Back on the topic -- the part I like about this Message Board is that are discussion on positive, negative, neutral and nonsensical topics (not just the Bengals) -- i.e. something for all of us Bengal fans to participate in until the season starts.IMHO some of us take this whole thing too seriouslyOn the topic -- I love that the Bengals have a player (David Pollack) with his level of "fire in the belly" playing for us. He will get on the field -- one way or another -- he is an impact player.

Pollack will be our player that the opposing quarterback will always know where he is. Not at first...at first it will probably be Jumpy or Odell...but soon it will be all about Pollack. In 2006 and beyond this will be Pollack's defense. He will be the leader.
