Bengals getting respect?

OK, gotta rant a bit and see where ya'll stand on this one. I watched the NFL Network game of the week from a couple weeks ago with our beloved Bengals losing a close one to the stillers last November. I was at the game and really only watched to verify one play - the phantom intentional grounding called in the mid fourth quarter (not the one at the end that was a safety. that was a correct call.)

Palmer dropped back to pass and got a little pressure. He was looking right and at the last minute turned left and threw into the short flat for a screen to Rudi. The call was intentional grounding because there was, presumably, no eligible receiver in the area. However the ball caromed off a stiller dlineman and fell to the turf with Rudi standing RIGHT BEHIND HIM!

Now, officials miss calls - sometimes big ones. However what pissed me off even more was the replay CLEARLY showed Rudi being in the area but the announcers on the GOTW broadcast didn't point out the error of the call. They even showed it twice saying Palmer made an error!!

I say that until we at least get some kind of token acknowlegement of these kinds of errors that kill drives, we aren't getting the respect of the masses. (I know, I know. Repect will come with a playoff appearance every decade or so . . .)

This game was chosen by GOTW only to show that the stillers could win despite a bad effort from their rookie. However it wasn't shown to show that they could win despite a strong effort from the opposing defense. Yes, Roethlisberger was sacked seven times (I believe), but to listen to the announcers it was because R-berger was having a bad day. I say the Bengals played their hearts out that day and a couple mental mistakes cost them the victory.

By the same token, when do we get to see Palmer's coming out party at Baltimore on GOTW??

Sure, it's in every aspect of sports. It's like a pitcher in baseball. A guy like Maddox or Schilling will get a strike call that's obviously outside the zone as opposed to a rookie that may get a ball called that most would think was a strike. Or anticipation fouls on Shaq in the NBA.

But it's our job, the team, to change that. To have a winning record. To make the playoffs. Once that happens, the respect from the masses will come. That's my op.

My point is the lack of respect isn't the blown call - it's the announcers, with CLEAR evidence to the contrary, STILL anounce a mistake made by the poor bungles. Until the masses see that everything that goes wrong around here isn't a mistake of some sort, we will be seen as the bungles. And yes, this will happen with a playoff season.
