Kirkendall
Newman has another year on his contract with car owner Roger Penske, but Ford's Jack Roush, Dodge's Ray Evernham, and Chevy executives have all been making a run at Newman, who is the hottest qualifier on the stock car tour.Rumor also has it that all five Roush drivers were seen with Newman exiting a trailer this weekend at Richmond.http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Satellit...s=1037645509200

StripesNTn
Just my 2 cents worth but i believe it is time NASCAR made a limit for number of teams from a owner. I say 3. The way things are now Rousch already owns 1/8 of all cars on the track, Hendrick 1/10. Now tell me these odds dont aid the owners chances of winning? This isn't even counting the benefits of all the shared testing and development. Now as for Newman, he would be a nice addition to DEI would be much better in the 1 car than Truex. Truex has done good in busch but i am not sold on his ability.

Just because a guy has 1/4 of the horses in the field doesn't mean he's going to win.On that subject, think about all the hype that surrounded Zito and his horses in the Derby. Which one was going to win? Could he go 1-2-3?Nascar needs this kind of hype. No one wants there to be a dominant driver, so why not a dominant team or two? Who's going to win it this year? Could it be Rousch? Hendrick? Or an underdog? This situation creates the kind of excitement and attention I've been hoping for since I went to my first race as a kid. Kirkendall
I do think if NASCAR is going to implement the impound races, then they need to ban regular Cup drivers from the Busch series. I say that because, as Iffy mentions, the cup series is dominated by teams rather than drivers which makes it harder for less privlaged teams to find their way into the sport. However, Cup drivers in the Busch series creates more sponsership, so it's 22 I guess.
StripesNTn
Kirk i agree there are to many in busch but it is somehting that has always been allowed i dont see it changing. Hell i think Mark Martin is winningest busch driver ever, but never ran a full year He did, he had one full season. I just think with the sport getting a ton of attention, growing exponentially each year with new sponserships etc,.. a lot of the lesser teams could get a stake in the sport. Just MHO.Check this site out too... http://www.racing-reference.com/index.jsp
IfItsBrownFlushItDown
Great points. It is agreed that NASCAR needs to treat its "minor leagues" like the MLB. The Busch Series should be a feeder program of future potential Nextel Cup drivers, not Nextel Cup drivers trying to get in an extra-long practice session. As a Busch Series fan (since I do regularly attend the race @ KY Speedway) I loved watching Kyle Busch and Martin Truex more than I did Michael Waltrip. I wanted to see how they performed to be able to tell if they were ready for the Nextel Series yet or not.
Kirkendall
Great points. It is agreed that NASCAR needs to treat its "minor leagues" like the MLB. The Busch Series should be a feeder program of future potential Nextel Cup drivers, not Nextel Cup drivers trying to get in an extra-long practice session. Not only that, but it would encourage more owners to try the sport -- again, with more sponserships, it's more realistic to try -- which could create more parity. Some have suggested that full-time Cup drivers that do race in the Busch series do not get points -- unless they are doing a full schedule. As for Truex, is it pretty much expected he'll take the #1 DEI car? I don't suspect he'll take over the #15 unless negotiations break down. Think Paul Menard will take the #8 Busch car in '06?
